I propose we make some minor changes to the standard guillotine though, as potentially we will need to use it in a zero gravity environment when these fuckers try to escape to space.

I believe a pair of micro-rockets would give the blade assembly the appropriate near-gravity acceleration, but we do need to run the numbers to ensure we don't end up with single use devices. That would be so wasteful.

Let's hook it up to righteously trained AI and let them try to talk it out of guillotining them. If they manage it they just get to lose all their money instead of their head.

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 2 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Why not a slow hydraulic cylinder to push the blade down?

[–] Damage@slrpnk.net 1 points 11 hours ago

Just adapt a normal mechanical, flywheel press. They work quite fast, great output.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 1 points 8 hours ago

Cuz rockets are cool.

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

Too much effort. Let's get a multi ton autohammer and speedrun this shit

[–] 20cello@lemmy.world 54 points 17 hours ago (4 children)

Is there any big tech CEO who's not a total moron or that's a specific requisite needed for the role

[–] bystander@lemmy.ca 8 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

It is all as intended. They didn't stumble into this.

[–] Skiluros@sh.itjust.works 5 points 15 hours ago

Almost none of them are morons. They are all cunning, sophisticated and they spend all their time on work and their goals.

No need to underestimate them.

If anything their weaknesses lie in arrogance, ignorance (not the same thing as being stupid) and low tolerance of dealing with challenges they haven't encountered. As things stand today, this weaknesses haven't really caused them any problems, but that doesn't this will always be true.

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

You can even strip 'big tech' out of it. Overwhelmingly I met C-Suites that were the "fail up" type.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago

Does Gabe Newell count? If not then no.

[–] minorkeys@lemmy.world 37 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Deal with it you powerless peasants, or die, idgaf I'm a billionaire!

-Sundar Pichai, probably

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Accurate AF

[–] Mk23simp@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

How about we adapt by raising taxes on you assholes and funding social programs?

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 8 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Here's an idea, 90% instant wealth tax on billionaires, and use the influx of money for UBI. Then they're free to cut all the jobs for AI.

Rinse and repeat this every year until billionaires simply... don't exist.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I have a batter idea because too many Americans are anti tax but also hate fiat.

We erase the wealth instead. Take their investments and just delete them from financial records. It's fiat so it's imaginary and we can choose to stop imagining it.

Think of all the economic theories that will be tested!

No need to worry about what to do with anything collected. No corrupt middle men to skim off a price of it. Not written off, not a tax event, just poof gone.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

That's not a good idea, mainly because how billionaires' wealth works - it's not in cash but split between various investments, including real estate and other property. Do you suggest we just burn their supercars, their villas, their stocks, their Rolexes?

It's not a bank account you can set to 0. What they have as available cash is at most 10% of their wealth, but usually under 1%, since cash is riskier than other investments.

Hell, the reason we're having trouble taxing the rich is because they use weird loopholes that aren't available to anyone else - such as taking low interest large lump sum loans backed by their assets/investments, which is tax-free, then defaulting on said loan or writing it off, transferring the backing asset to the loan giver, also tax free... Meanwhile you or me? We're stuck with cashing out our investments which is an immediately taxable event. Good luck convincing a bank to give you a 0.25% loan of £5000 against your £6000 investment portfolio.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Yes. Burn it all to the fucking ground.

I'm am tired of the argument that we really isn't want their shit. I don't. Destroy it all. Stock, delete it. Over shore accounts, balance is now zero.

I am no longer interesting in a wealth tax. That was the proposal over a decade ago. I presume they've now had enough time to paid someone to structure against it.

All their physical property becomes problematic anyway. I dont want to see some bastard cop trying around in a super car. I don't want some other asshole to move into their mansions. Knock it down and build tiny houses for the homeless.

At least the robber barron's gave use ornate theatres, museums and colleges. These ghouls have given us nothing but pain and misery.

Guillotines have become a campy meme so let's bring back public pyres instead. I'm a reasonable person, so I say leave it up to every employee and customer they've had as to if the person needs to be tied to the top of their pyre.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 1 points 1 hour ago

You "delete" or burn all that wealth, and you kill the poorest 50% of the planet practically overnight.

Sorry but burning just the wealth down without taking the system with it would result in chaos that would only hurt the most exposed. That's why taxing the wealth is the right idea, with further steps taken to ensure such wealth discrepancy cannot exist in the future.

Obligatory FUCK GOOGLE

[–] Doubleohdonut@lemmy.ca 18 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Careful what you wish for buddy. When we're all unemployed, we'll be coming for you.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

He will have his army of Tesla killer bots by then.

[–] C4551E@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 hours ago

First they'll need the robot-building robots, and before that they'll need the maintenance robots that fix and troubleshoot all the robots. All of this will be designed by the engineering robots, which also don't yet exist

[–] bobs_monkey@lemmy.zip 15 points 18 hours ago

Says the guy that is one of the highest on the proverbial food chain.

[–] rafoix@lemmy.zip 14 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

We need a film series like The Purge but instead of the idiot masses killing each other is the working class legally hunting down the wealthiest and the winner gets to decide how to distribute their prey’s wealth. They can decide to keep it but they will become the next target.

[–] ImperialATAT@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

Like a Robin Hood version of The Purge? In my head I see a cute fox but what I want to see is a I know what you did last summer wolf.

[–] untorquer@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)
[–] rafoix@lemmy.zip 2 points 15 hours ago

It’s prestige cinema. People will pay big bucks to watch the 3D version at the local theater.

[–] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 12 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

What jobs? This shit can't even tell you the time.

It's your boss who is firing you to cut costs. AI is the excuse.

[–] DeathsEmbrace@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

Technically its an excuse to take money away from these jobs and invest them into their own self satisfaction or AI.

[–] SaraTonin@lemmy.world 12 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Is it actually wiping jobs?

I remember reading a report earlier this year which said that most people who used AI at work found that they didn’t have much use for it and it didn’t make them more productive. So that tracks.

Makes sense that tech CEOs are still pushing it as the miracle tech which will make humans obsolete, though.

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

CEOs are still pushing it

Anything to fuck over people.

[–] Apocalypteroid@feddit.uk 3 points 10 hours ago

My jobs is fairly low level administration, and I have point blank refused to use the AI tools they are trying to force on us. My reasoning to management is that I've never needed it before. My reasoning to my colleagues is that I'm not fucking training it to replace me.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

People are saying no but I think it actually is starting to take jobs.

I'm a software engineer and my company is forcing us all to use AI to write code and we basically just review it at this point and test it then fix any issues.

About a year or two ago there was this big change. They said we are "shifting left". A hot new trend in the tech industry where we eliminate quality assurance teams and instead the engineers test their own code. At the time it seemed odd. Why would I test my own code that I already tested? It seems the shift was to lay off those people so the engineers could take over the testing jobs when theirs are automated away.

Now they are starting to question all the managers who don't write code or use AI tools. They have noticed the managers are redundant now too so I don't think they have much time. My manager is vibe coding like crazy.

We also have product managers who are vibe coding now too. Everyone is just trying to hold on to their livelihood as long as they can. It's like battle Royale of who can justify staying on to manage AI agents.

It's insane.

And I know people will say that the code isn't good enough but I assure you it is. Because it's all based on our existing code base that was very well written and has high test coverage requirements. It's very good at following well defined patterns. They just pump a ton of money into it and give it more context.

[–] Omgpwnies@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, that is absolutely not what Shift-left is. Shift-left is essentially an implementation of TDD, and QA is still a vital component of that. I think you are right in that management used it as a scapegoat to fire people.

However, if what you are saying in the rest of your post is accurate, you need to GTFO that company, fast. It's only going to be a matter of time before the product craters from all the vibe-coding.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

I have golden handcuffs for now but it's a very large company with lots of products so my plan is to stay as long as I can while keeping my resume up to date. Also experimenting with some business ideas.

Ideally I can do my own thing one day without all this nonsense.

[–] kowcop@aussie.zone 9 points 17 hours ago

The dudes suit probably costs more than most Americans make in a year .. the ones that haven’t lost their job to AI

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 5 points 7 hours ago

~~we ~~ you will have to work through societal disruption

FTFY, because he won't have to, and won't work through societal disruption, he will just buy another Ferrari with his extra money or some shit

Having said that, AI as it currently is isn't AI, it's fucking LLMs, and LLMs as they are today won't do any of this shit that is being promised. LLMs pretty much have platoed out, and won't be getting any better soon.

The AI bubble will burst, it's just a question of how quickly and how much of the world will explode with it

And yet again, not only did everyone in power let this bubble form AGAIN, everyone in power AGAIN three everything they got on top of it, believing that the rainbow s end really did have a pot of gold. When the economy eventually breaks badly, AGAIN, those in power will bail out the CEOs with OUR money, blame some easy target that isn't them, and claim there was no way to avoid any of this shit. A few pretend to care laws will be put in place, they won't do shit to prevent the next bubble, but not that it matters because those laws will then be revealed again 5-10 years from now because they'll be remotely standing in the way of the next bubble that is going to be awesome for ~~everyone~~ the top 0.1%

So. Can we now finally outlaw multi millionaires and abovd? Can we now finally cap personal networh at 10-20 million dollars and any income above that goes 100% to taxes? Can we finally cap company networths at 1 billion, maybe 1000 employees, max? Any income above that, 100% to tax

I don't want a single trillion dollar company, I want a million million dollar companies

[–] Washedupcynic@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 hours ago
[–] Chais@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 hours ago

I'm all for replacing managers with LLMs. Both spew incoherent nonsense that only accidentally coincides with reality and people smarter than them are left to interpret it.

[–] Washedupcynic@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 hours ago

Cool, cool. How the fuck are we supposed to adapt when AI is doing all the jobs because employer would rather get free labor from a robot than fucking pay a human being? How the fuck are we supposed to earn an income, house ourselves, or feed ourselves? Time to burn it all to the ground and go back to hunting, gathering, and bartering. Sundar doesn't look delicious, but we'll eat him anyway.
