Mine is Gladiator. The Disney Tarzan soundtrack is great too. What are your favorite soundtracks?

A few that spring to mind...

Vertigo
Psycho
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
Mulholland Drive
All 3 LOTR films
Star Wars OT
Indiana Jones (especially Raiders)
The Sweet Smell of Success

[–] jxk@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh yes, I remember the Twin Peaks movie having the Cherubini requiem. Awesome stuff

[–] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Ah, I never knew what that piece was. It's fantastic though, a perfect fit along with all of Badalamenti and Lynch's music.

My particular favourite is the weird drone of The Pink Room, turned up loud, but it's all good!

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Dune (1984)

The Fifth Element

Toto’s Dune score is objectively amazing, and also that one Brian Eno track was perfect. Good pick.

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Either Pulp Fiction or Judgment Night.

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Judgement Night is awesome!

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Fuck yeah. Soundtrack is better than the movie. Lol

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Ah, I've always had a soft spot for Emilio. He was just in so much stuff I watched back in the day. Anything he's in gets an ok from me, even if it isn't that great. 😉

  • Tron by Draft Punk
  • Lord of the Ring
  • Interstellar
  • The Graduate
[–] PoorYorick@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and Footloose are probably my favorites of all time. It's really hard to find soundtracks with a better collection of absolutely amazing songs imo.

[–] huaxie@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

My favorite is the soundtrack to Princess Mononoke, composed by Joe Hisaishi.

[–] tab@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Koyaanisqatsi
Solaris (the remake)
Whiplash
Broken Flowers
The Fountain
Pirates ot Caribbean

[–] Bahnd@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago

Props for Koyaanisqatsi

I too like subjecting my neighbors to hours of Philip Glass albums.

[–] LandedGentry@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

I feel like whiplash is cheating but you right lol

The score for Star Trek II: the wrath of khan is absolutely amazing

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 4 points 1 day ago

James Horner nailed the starship motif. I enjoy the various other composers' works as well, but Horner is my top for Trek.

Howard Shore for all the Tolkien work. His music alone will paint the image of Middle Earth in my head.

And Hans Zimmer has some stuff I love, like Time, but he did his best job imo for Dune.

Already lots of LOTR & Tron: Legacy here. Not seeing much love for animated film scores, so on that note & in no particular order:

  • How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, 1 is personal favorite
  • Kung Fu Panda trilogy, 2 is ~~so fucking good oh my god~~ personal favorite
  • The Lion King (1994)
  • Spirited Away
  • My Neighbor Totoro
  • Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
  • The Super Mario Movie
  • Finding Nemo
  • Up

A couple of these have great soundtracks, too, but I do love a good score.

Terminator 2 Theme

Not sure if "favorite", I can't recall every soundtrack I've heard, but definitely one of my top favorites and the first I thought of.

To Live and Die in LA by Wang Chung is another great one that hasn't been mentioned yet

[–] Aksamit@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 day ago

Animatrix. It's been in my regular listening rotation for probably over 15 years now.

Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse

Not a movie but all 3 Beastars openings sound so good

Into the wild

[–] QuarterSwede@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Haven’t seen anyone mention Cinema Paradiso or The Good the Bad and the Ugly. Both are wildly different. Ennio Morricone is a genius.

There’s also The Incredibles - Michael Giacchino The Greatest Showman - Various Artists
Saving Private Ryan - John Williams
The Prince of Egypt - Hans Zimmer
The Gospel of John - Jeff Dann (great middle eastern vibe)

Lately, I've been listening to The Martian. I'm kind of a sucker for synthy orchestral compositions and that soundtrack is just so hauntingly beautiful.
