Trump said he would run this country like a business and he sure is proving it.

Two unqualified buffoons in charge and doing buffoonish things while focusing on appearance over substance telling the most qualified people that they're doing their jobs wrong.

Sounds like pretty much every job I've ever had.

[–] lennybird@lemmy.world 68 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Running it like a business is what got the Challenger and Columbia astronauts killed.

I want it run like a fucking engineer or scientist.

But worst of all, he's running it like he did when he bankrupted his 6 other fucking businesses.

[–] blargle@sh.itjust.works 44 points 1 day ago

It's being run exactly like a private-equity takeover business. Sears, K-Mart, Radio Shack, Toys R Us, Red Lobster... That's the model.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 14 hours ago

Run it like Boeing before the merger

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 50 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, those people that think having a businessman running the country would be better are either business owners themselves, or have never actually worked in a business.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 44 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The thing is nations aren't businesses, and running them like one is fucking stupid.

[–] primrosepathspeedrun@anarchist.nexus 29 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Running a business like a business is pointlessly destructive and long term stupid

When Boeing was run like an engineering club with a sales department, they were legendary. Now they're run like a business.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 8 points 1 day ago

Back when Boeing was ran by engineers, you had to crash the plane yourself. It took running the company like a business to come up with the Innovation that automated that

[–] Ajen@sh.itjust.works 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Prioritizing short term profit when running s business is destructive and long term stupid for the business. But some people make a lot of money by buying companies and running them into the ground, so I don't think it's technically "pointless."

What is produced other than cookie clicks?

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 day ago

Too many decades of anti-left propaganda has left people with the crazy idea that the only model for anything is a profit-making business.

Donnie gonna walk in with a stack of little Caeser's and a 2 liter of Dr. Thunder to "show our appreciation".

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Sounds about right .... and they'll keep giving everyone the runaround until the money dries up ... then they'll all scatter like cockroaches and leave everyone else holding the bag ... an empty bag .... a very, very empty bag.

[–] Reality_Suit@lemmy.world 61 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Is it just me, or would this be a perfect opportunity for anyone to attack the US?

That's literally why it's such a fucking stupid idea that it's so well publicized.

[–] pheonixdown@sh.itjust.works 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Probably by one of the radical left antifa non-white EU atheist trans groups...

Certainly not a false flag coup by the right-wing billionaires, they only have our best interests at heart.

It would be perfect for them, get rid of dementia don, tell coward Vance how to run things.

[–] MrSmiley@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 hours ago

Vance was handpicked by the dark enlightenment to destroy America for their neofeudal utopia, grinding undesirables into biofuel and enslaving the rest.

[–] xyzzy@lemmy.today 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just get Vance and Johnson in there and that would be the most effective decapitation strike in history

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 day ago

Decapitating this regime might actually help the USA.

It was suggested by a junior officer who thought his career was beginning to stagnate.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 14 hours ago

Enemies of the US want all these people alive since they’re doing such a great job of destroying the country from within.

[–] Sludgehammer@lemmy.world 59 points 1 day ago

"Wait Hegseth's going to be the special boy at this meeting? He can't do that, I'm the special boy!"

[–] lectricleopard@lemmy.world 44 points 1 day ago (3 children)

This is about finding dissent. Anyone who isn't willing to use force against political opponents will be identified.

Saddam Hussein did a similar thing when he took power. I dont think Trump can execute them without having a problem, so this will be interesting. If he fires a bunch of generals, this could get weird fast.

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Yep there's a few ways this could go and none are really great. Either the military bends the knee and any who opposed are forced out. Or there's a full on military coup. Or best case it's purely about ego that trump needs to yell at a room full of generals.

[–] lectricleopard@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think closer to the later. These aren't guys that enlisted last year, or after the election. They are career guys, and have worked with a few presidents i imagine.

I remember hearing chatter about the deep state, and I'll tell you what, Im glad that the power in our government is so diffuse. Career people are invested in their work for the long run.

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 5 points 20 hours ago

While true, the military has been reorganized under this president. Removing anyone that wasn't a white man and renaming anything that wasn't a white man, that was the first steps of removing potential dissent. It doesn't need to be a huge number of sycophants, but a few of them could make things very bad for us.

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I agree that they're trying to find those that will refuse an unlawful or unconstitutional order.

Is it a bit weird that Hegseth kinda already did this though?

I have no idea how the military works.

I'm imagining a conference full of the top brass. They mostly know each other or "of" each other in a loose network. They would already know why they've been summoned and where they stand, but also a fair guess as to where the group splits on this issue.

[–] lectricleopard@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

I also dont know much about how it works, but I do know the military isn't all MAGA. He's tried to get rid of people all throughout the government if they show signs of disloyal. He's reached into areas the president never has before, and this might be the next. I wonder how a general reacts to that.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 20 hours ago

Where are all of the intelligence agents and generals going/going to go after getting ousted?

These are the people who have the knowledge and means to stop this shit, they should be organizing it.

Only makes sense. I doubt all those suckers and loosers could know what to do without him.

Trump's a real war-hero after all. He's prevented 9 wars this year alone. Just look him, you don't a well rounded build like his without some serious work.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

Here's hoping at least one of those generals acts on their oath to defend the constitution from domestic threats.

The champaign is ready, but so is my expectation for disappointment.

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

All top military brass and potus in one location, brilliant. Both potus and vp were in the same place last week in an open stadium and nothing happened, so I guess they decided to up the ante. What morons.

[–] twice_hatch@midwest.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

it's probably hard to get a rifle into a stadium or onto neighboring high ground, though

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But foreign state actors could do a drone attack or something

[–] Mortoc@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What enemy of the USA would ever want to take out this dude?

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Definitely Iran, for one. Retaliation for him assassinating their General Soleimani, and they could get all our generals at the same time. And probably a few other countries have their reasons as well but that's the biggest one that comes to mind atm.

[–] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Right? He's a godsend for em.

[–] jonesey71@lemmus.org 1 points 1 day ago

This is 4D chess to make sure no one nukes our assembled military leaders because they don't want to make America stronger by getting rid of the orange doofus.

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 10 hours ago
[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

So he is going to take the oath on him personally? Or is it about them having to kiss his ring (or worse) as part of the ceremony?

Secretary of Defense is number six for presidential succession so it’s plausible that he could become president.
