PSA: if you pat your brow with sweet, yeasty white bread before joining her in Poundland, you both're gonna have a bad time. 🫣

[–] Technoworcester@feddit.uk 46 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

TIL the yanks have a thing called a dollar store.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Dollar Store, Dollar Tree, Dollar General (where they couldn't keep prices at $1.)

5 Below - I thought would be a winter clothing/sports store, nope. $5 and below items

[–] Technoworcester@feddit.uk 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ha. I would have also thought 5 below was a temp. thing.

[–] emogu@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There’s one a few miles from my house and I thought the same until this thread.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They opened one in Panama City Beach years ago. It's actually a decent place to bring younger kids if you have them or are hanging out with your nieces/nephews. All kinds of random things at the time.

I'm sure it's all cheap junk but if you are hanging out and want to find them some quick entertainment they have cheap pool floats/ beach stuff, marker/drawing/coloring sets, TShirts, little plush stuffed animals of things like Lilo and stitch, small Lego sets, sports balls, backyard games and even some shitty headphones and such.

Can find some activities for them for the weekend and they have fun looking around while you don't have to worry about it being expensive like if you bought a toy at Target or something.

For us it was usually things like little water guns, water balloons with fillers and big notepads and colored pencils as the kids were 4-12 years old and they loved going there. Not sure how they'll survive the tariffs though.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 week ago

[–] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 22 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's so interesting to see how people react to something that is so normal to me 🀣

We also sometimes call it The Pound Shop.

[–] Zedd_Prophecy@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

I watch an electronics guy called Big Clive on YT and I'm always impressed by the stuff he finds at Poundland.. kinda jealous.

[–] Goretantath@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Theres a GREAT channel that covers poundland tat called Ashens you should check out then. Thats where I learned of it.

[–] Zedd_Prophecy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I always watch his buying undelivered mail ones... absolutely love that a brown chair is his studio.

Two tickets, please, I’d like to ride The Fuck Train to Poundland.

In related news, Americans wear thongs on their feet.

[–] mysticpickle@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That would explain all the foot fetishists on onlyfans

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

[–] starlinguk@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

And they don't seem to know what "gangbanger" actually means.

[–] Hayduke@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I know it’s gonna sound weird, but thanks to Big Clive, I am quite familiar with Poundland.

[–] breecher@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago

In my case it was Ashens.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

We have a dog daycare center around here called Pound Town.

[–] mysticpickle@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't think I'd have the heart to take my dog to poundtown 😨
