Turns out the male in the women's bathroom was the security guard, instead.

So women won't be able to even take a piss without being under the control of armed men. It's almost as though they're using trans people as an excuse. . .

When I was a kid I thought fancy ladies rooms had butler dudes in them too

[–] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 19 points 2 days ago

I'll be honest, it never really crossed my mind that the ladies room attendant was a chick, I never really put much thought into that one.

Also too, BECAUSE IT'S JUST A DESIGNATED PLUMBED ROOM TO TAKE A SHIT, NOT A FUCKING THING TO BE POLITICIZED.

better title: security guard sexually assaulted a patron.

[–] whostosay@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

By definition this is so close to terrorism

[–] NotAnotherLemmyUser@lemmy.world 156 points 2 days ago (4 children)

From the article:

On Tuesday morning, The Liberty Hotel said it has finished an investigation into the incident and "the security officer is being suspended from their position." It said all staff are being retrained "on inclusive practices and guest interaction protocols." The hotel is also making a donation to a local LGBTQ+ organization.

Pretty sure inclusion training is now illegal in the US

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I live in Boston. My parents have stayed at that hotel before while visiting me. I’m going to tell them to not consider it going forward.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 36 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

The Hotel suspended the asshole guard and is doing a bunch of things to try to make amends and you want to punish them?

Edit: and they are doing all of his in an America lead by an administration that is actively trying to punish any company or organization that even whispers inclusivity or acknowledges LGBTQ+ people and causes.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They should have fired him tbh

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Probably union or a proceedure to work thru.

Backpedal and save face (and pay lip-service)

[–] Archangel1313@lemm.ee 121 points 2 days ago (4 children)

"For gender nonconforming, lesbians, women in general, being harassed in public restrooms is a tale as old as time. I do think the surge in national anti-trans rhetoric is contributing to an increased policing of women's bodies and their expression of gender," Selvaggio said.

And yet, terfs will blame trans folks for this trend, instead of the anti-trans culture they themselves contribute to.

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 45 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yup, the terfs in line couldn’t imagine a woman exists who didn’t look like their version of a woman to them since she didn’t follow every trend of what “being a woman” should look like based on social media, most likely.

Baker was born a woman and identifies as a woman. But, she said she was escorted out of the restroom and then comments were directed at her from other women waiting in line.

"Someone said, 'Get him out of here,' referring to me. 'He's a creep,' also referring to me," Baker said.

History has shown us that if a man wants to go into a women's bathroom to harass or assault women, he doesn't usually get all disguised to do it.

[–] klemptor@startrek.website 24 points 2 days ago

Yeah and (at least in this case) if he's a security guard, he just walks right on in!

[–] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 19 points 1 day ago

Why would a rapist pretend to be a trans woman in a society that treats rapists better than trans women?

GUARD: SHOW ME YOUR PUSSY!

GIRL: No, get out of the girl’s bathroom. I’m calling the police.

GUARD: then… PROVE YOUR GENDER?

[–] s08nlql9@lemm.ee 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sounds like a script from a pron movie

Exactly the type of people empowered by the current administration.

[–] Stovetop@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Even then, though, this shit doesn't fly here.

Shouldn't have happened at all, but at least the hotel fired the shitfucker and tried to make this right, while in other parts of the country this behavior would have been celebrated.

[–] CmdrShepard42@lemm.ee 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It just says he was suspended not fired.

[–] theLetterJ@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 2 days ago

Also depends on if the security was contracted. If so, then the hotel can ask for a personelle change but isn't responsible for their employment. The contractor would just relocate the guard if they don't fire him.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 54 points 2 days ago (7 children)

That security guard should be fired.

Arrested for violating the woman's civil rights.

We should all misgender every MAGAt male who enters the men’s bathroom. And tell them that pussies are not allowed in there.

God forbid you take a shit in the vicinity of someone with different genitalia. The entire bathroom debacle is straight up childish.

Carry pepper spray, end these interrogations as quickly as they begin.

If someone confronts you in a hateful way about your gender like this, maybe you suddenly become afraid for your safety (valid!) and spray them in the face with pepper spray.

When people ask what happens say you became afraid the stranger was trying to hurt you and put your body under threat because they were.

i knew a person that was misgendered, and was questioned by AA person why she went into the womans bathroom because she was wearing a shoes and some clothes that men wear.

[–] Nelots@lemm.ee 19 points 2 days ago

She was wearing SHOES??? How dare she. Cross dressing is getting out of hand.

Disappointed but not surprised that the sexual assailant in this article has not been charged with anything yet, let alone sexual assault...

Calling someone a creep for not matching your gender appearance expectations, as at least one of the women in line for the bathroom did to this lady, is also arguably sexual harassment. But nobody's going to bring any consequences against the woman that did that. Typical cis woman weaponizing false victimhood and then disappearing into the background with zero consequences and possibly zero self reflection.

[–] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

While bathroom bills are explicitly aimed at trans folk, generally it's the non-gender conforming cis crowd that actually gets challenged IRL. Which isn't a bug, but a feature to control and enforce two clean arbitrary distinctions. Almost always some poor butch lesbian being accosted by the gender police and told to pee safely they need some makeup.

There is more to being a man than a tie, and more to being a woman than a dress. Humand are infinitely more complex than those old strict boundaries. This sort of attack is just a impotent attempt to force back the 1920'e statud quo.

Aww that's gross. I thought the Liberty Hotel is a fun place. Also…y'know…liberty…

[–] dugmeup@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They are at liberty to demand you show your genitals
