Okay I’m just going to consolidate all the information on here from the last post now that comments are everywhere and I can’t edit my original post. So, his Facebook is @matt.dambrosia.9.

His comments have been TURNED BACK ON and everyone can comment for his sole video still up on his page as of this post. Here: https://www.tiktok.com/@moddestalphavet/video/7456073080918625582?

Also for everyone who missed the deleted post, here’s the entire post in the order he posted the photos. I can only post 20 and his post had like over 30 on them. Since I ran out of images I can post, I’ll share the rest on DM

As a disclaimer, I'm not actually anti-AI, but tons of slop is made with it. It's the same as those TTS Reddit reading videos from back in the day or any other shitty trend from the last 10 years.

I'm old enough to know to dismiss internet noise as vastly out of touch with the actual silent majority of internet users, so this moral panic over slop to me was just zoomers who grew up on reaction videos thinking that wasn't slop to the folks who came before, but I was on a train, looking around, I saw like 4/5 people I could see were on their phones, watching clearly AI-generated content, on TikTok or something similar based on the UI elements, one of them even had it on speaker for some reason.

All of them seemed around my age in the mid-20s.

Thing is, I don't really understand it, what's the appeal? I'm not asking about being on your phone, but specifically short-form videos about nothing specific.

When I looked it up, lots of talk about addiction and dopamine loops, but I can't relate to that, I assume this maybe has something to do with me having ADHD and the theory that my dopamine system doesn't really work "normally".

I tried watching TikTok before, but it definitely wasn't stimulating for me, I got bored pretty quick. If I was on a train and really bored looking out the window listening to music, I'd whip out a Wikipedia page or read the comments on Lemmy or look up a random question on my mind.

Why? Well in my experience - text is a lot easier to consume you can consume more information faster, hence to me - it's more stimulating. Works both ways too - It's just easier to express yourself quickly and clearly in text than by speaking. Even typing on my phone feels a helluva lot less taxing and more stimulating than speaking/listening.

It's not like I don't watch videos, I do have videos on in the background sometimes when I'm tidying up or whatever, where I prefer long-form stuff so it just fades into the background and stays consistent and non-distracting. If I watch a movie it's often something I kinda need to mentally work myself up for. I definitely wouldn't be able to pay attention to a video playing on my phone.

So my question is - what's so stimulating about this type of stuff in particular?

I want to hear about your experience so I can understand it better.

I'd like to understand it, because otherwise it feels like most people are weird aliens, driven by forces beyond my comprehension, and it's not nice :(

It came from a Harry Potter Lego Advent Calendar. My kids didn't build them right away, and squirrelled them away until recently.

Damn thing drew blood.

A sophisticated attack technique was uncovered where cybercriminals exploit free trials of Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) software to disable existing security protections on compromised systems.  This method, dubbed BYOEDR (Bring Your Own EDR), represents a concerning evolution in defense evasion tactics that leverage legitimate security tools as weapons against themselves. Key Takeaways1. Attackers use […] The post Hackers Weaponizing Free Trials of EDR to Disable Existing EDR Protections appeared first on Cyber Security News.

Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee toured a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation distribution site in Rafah, Gaza’s southernmost city, which has been almost completely destroyed and is now a largely depopulated Israeli military zone.

I was sick of always fighting with WordPress to get a local set up to develop a plug-in or update the theme for a client, so I made a dev container.

As per the README, this supports:

  • Automatic database dump import and site URL rename
  • Automatic WordPress theme and plug-in loading from .zip, wpackagist or directory
  • Mounting of a user-provided uploads directory

It also means your IDE automatically gets access to a WordPress installation for easy auto complete of WordPress functions and features when writing PHP code.

Theoretically, it can also easily be converted into a normal container if you don't use VSCode by setting up /workspace as a mount. Dev containers are unfortunately a bit broken with JetBrains products, and this container will not launch.

Contributions welcome!

"Preserving a two-state solution means standing with all people who choose peace over violence or terrorism, and honouring their innate desire for the peaceful co-existence of Israeli and Palestinian states as the only roadmap for a secure and prosperous future," Carney said during a news conference on Wednesday.

He said Canada would formally recognize the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly.

Carney said Hamas can have no role in the election he is proposing. He also reiterated that Hamas needs to release the remaining Israeli hostages and said a Palestinian state must be demilitarized.

Conor McGregor has lost his appeal against a civil jury finding in favour of Nikita Hand, who sued him over alleged rape of her in a Dublin hotel.

In its judgment on Thursday afternoon, the three judge Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal “in its entirety”. Ms Hand was in court for the ruling. Mr McGregor was not present.

Mr McGregor, who denied rape and claimed he had consensual and “vigorous” sex with Ms Hand in the Beacon hotel on December 9th 2018, had claimed the trial judge erred in directing the High Court civil jury should be asked to decide whether he “assaulted”, rather than “sexually assaulted”, Ms Hand.

Dismissing that ground of appeal, Mr Justice Brian O’Moore, sitting with Ms Justice Isobel Kennedy and Mr Justice Michael McGrath, said the appeal court had no doubt the overall effect of Mr Justice Alexander Owen’s charge was to tell them the central allegation by Ms Hand against Mr McGregor was he had raped her.

It was “unreal” to suggest that, after the trial judge had framed the issue in the “brutally clear” way he had, that the jury could have been confused.

Speaking outside the Four Courts in Dublin following the judgment, Ms Hand said “today I can finally move on and try to heal”.

Messaging is super important when the government and media are drenched in propaganda and misinformation. A lack of messaging also sends a message and not a good one.

Wearing this shirt in my community on my daily walks and when running errands:

  1. Lets at-risk populations know there are allies in their community.
  2. Fights the lie that people like Trump and his administration.
  3. Makes people happy. I've gotten more praise for my anti-Trump shirts than all of the clothing I've ever owned...combined. I've even had someone do a u-turn, pull over, and tell me that even though they were late to work they had to stop and tell me that I made their day.
  4. Inspires others to do the same.
  5. Shows them that there are liberals who aren't afraid of getting more aggressive (messaging and otherwise).
  6. Makes MAGA unhappy. Fuck em.

A South African university has launched an anti-poaching campaign to inject the horns of rhinoceroses with radioactive isotopes that it says are harmless for the animals but can be detected by customs agents.

Under the collaborative project involving the University of the Witwatersrand, nuclear energy officials and conservationists, five rhinos were injected in what the university hopes will be the start of a mass injection of the declining rhino population, which they are calling the Rhisotope Project.

Last year, about 20 rhinos at a sanctuary were injected with isotopes in trials that paved the way for Thursday’s launch. The radioactive isotopes even at low levels can be recognised by radiation detectors at airports and borders, leading to the arrest of poachers and traffickers.

The crisis isn't just a short-term problem. State officials have known for decades that relying on oil to fund the budget is risky as prices and production have declined. But year after year, they have failed to agree on a solution to finance school repairs and renovations.

Alaska is one of only two states without an income tax or statewide sales tax.

Average annual spending on education facilities declined by nearly 60% after 2014, the year oil prices plummeted, according to a 2021 report by the University of Alaska Anchorage. Overall spending on rural facilities is now less than half of what the National Council on School Facilities recommends.
