For all of President Donald Trump’s promises of an economic “golden age,” a spate of weak indicators this week told a potentially worrisome story as the impacts of his policies are coming into focus.

Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee toured a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation distribution site in Rafah, Gaza’s southernmost city, which has been almost completely destroyed and is now a largely depopulated Israeli military zone.

The federal Bureau of Prisons said Friday that Maxwell had been transferred to Bryan, Texas, but did not explain the circumstances. Her attorney confirmed the move but also declined to discuss the reasons for it.

The Fed has the responsibility of stabilizing prices and maximizing employment. Powell has held its benchmark rate for overnight loans constant this year, saying that Fed officials needed to see what impact Trump’s massive tariffs had on inflation.

International outcry over images of emaciated children and increasing reports of hunger-related deaths have pressured Israel to let more aid into the Gaza Strip. This week, Israel paused fighting in parts of Gaza and airdropped food. But aid groups and Palestinians say the changes have only been incremental and are not enough to reverse what food experts say is a “ worst-case scenario of famine” unfolding in the war-ravaged territory.

Then we'd be talking about "How Did Obesity Get So Much Worse in Gaza?"

Less food is going into Gaza now than during most other times in the war. Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed while heading toward aid sites. Many others are suffering from serious malnutrition, and Gazan health officials say scores have died from it.

When President Trump slammed India this week for purchasing large amounts of Russian oil, threatening a “penalty” tariff on top of a 25 percent levy, it came like a lightning bolt. India has been a leading and conspicuous buyer of Russian energy since the invasion of Ukraine three years ago, as most Western countries curtailed their purchases or stopped buying altogether.

The tariffs were framed around unfair trade practices, intellectual property theft, and protecting American manufacturing—not improving labor conditions abroad.

What if this awful, awful dark period in our lives somehow gives the Vietnamese or Cambodian worker a better life because the US is no longer willing to buy goods from countries that exploit their workforce?

I don't see how they can get a better life out of this, someone has to absorb the cost. In fact, many Southeast Asian countries saw trade increases as U.S. firms tried to move supply chains out of China.

What if American workers get a fair shake to do work for American consumers?

That’s the hope but for American workers to truly get a fair shake, tariffs need to be part of a larger plan. That means investing in domestic industries, enforcing labor standards, and making sure working people, not just corporations, benefit from any policy shifts.

Votes in the Senate made clear that the longtime bipartisan consensus in support of Israel is, at least for the moment, in tatters.

The surprise move, in a declaration endorsed on Tuesday by the 22 member nations of the Arab League, also condemned Hamas’s Oct. 7 attacks on Israel, which set off the devastating war in Gaza.

Exactly my thoughts. Article doesn't actually say if she put a down payment for the car and if she lost the down payment.

President Trump on Thursday unveiled a battery of new tariffs targeting exports from dozens of U.S. trading partners, forging ahead with a potentially disruptive plan to escalate his global trade war.

That’s not fair to a lot of Jews that have nothing to do or don’t want this. This should solely be on Bibi and the ring-wing coalition, and the soldiers that are killing civilians for sport.

Global outrage at the Netanyahu government’s actions has grown since the war began, and the suffering of children in the enclave has accelerated the disdain.

This is the definition of bullying.

Under President Trump, the deal making has been more direct, especially when it comes to energy. Countries are now agreeing to purchase American fossil fuels, in specific amounts and often years into the future, whether or not their economies will demand it or whether the United States will have the ability to supply it.
