Will there be any Palestinians left alive by then?

Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

No. And I believe that's the plan all along.
Good. Now can we stop selling bullets to Israel then please?
I remember last year when people were saying that Gaza will be ignored until it's too big to ignore. I remember because I was one of those people. They're doing this because they knew it was wrong to begin with but are now trying to save face and say "See? We were the good guys the whole time!" Do not let them forget that they let this happen when they could have stopped it at any time.
By the way, I'm not throwing shade towards Canada specifically. This was the stance of pretty much every western country and they are all guilty.
By the way, I'm not throwing shade towards Canada specifically.
Please throw shade towards us. Our lack of action here was largely because we wanted to stay on good terms with the US, who made their position abundantly clear.
Our government calculated that there would be harm done to our country if the US decided to twist some economic screws. But then Trump was elected and it happened anyway and we look like patsies.
The Western Public Opinion has changed so the pro-Genocide politicians are fighting to delay any meaningful action until after Israel has finished executing their Holocaust, by which point they'll switch to claiming that "we have to accept the facts on the ground that an independent Palestinian nation is not viable with just the population of the West Bank alive".
I've seen this strategy of support something bad; pivot to talk about some future meaningless act that has zero impact when the population realises how bad it really is; pivot to " it's too late now" and "lessons will be learned" when the thing is irreversible, be used countless times in Britain, though never to protect such extreme mass murderers.
What the fuck is this September shit? Why are they all putting it off until September instead of just doing it?
Its when the next UN general assembly meets:
The 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) opens on September 9, 2025. Two weeks later, High-Level General Debate kicks off Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
As the United Nations marks its 80th year, global leaders will convene in New York City to build consensus and confront complex global challenges. Eight decades after its establishment, the UN remains the only place on Earth where countries can gather to work through their differences and find common ground — shaping our shared future.
Spacing it to September is both a deadline and a stick for Israel. If acknowledged as a nation by enough countries, Palenstine gains rights it doesn't currently have to redress/self governance/etc. Its largely symbolic, as enforcing them will be challenging, but it makes a lot of what Israel has done to Palenstinies harder.
Israel very, very much does not want this to happen. This is some countries like France saying "fuck it, we aren't covering for you anymore now that the starving kids pictures are showing up" while countries like the UK are saying "fix the dying kids or else" and countries like Germany are saying "we committed genocide against you so we wont begrudge you your own because we consider letting you murder children some kind of weird german liberal guilt thing."
So of Israel cools out between now and September, then Palestine is just S.O.L. with regards to being recognized as a state?
That makes sense 🙄
Stamers conditions are more complicated than that. Most are in the article i linked. Hes demanding a two state solution and a lot of concessions from Israel when they are likely to meet none of them.
The UK has basically committed to recognizing Palenstine as a state.
Ah, the cheapest option; lip-service
I was about to say..... OK?
As far as I can tell every single Western nation politician pushing this "solution" is from a nation still selling weapons to Israel and who totally refuse the idea of sanctions on Israel.
The whole thing reeks of a "throw it into the long grass until the public pressure blows over" strategy to give time to Israel to finish their Holocaust without getting hit by the sanctions that Western public opinion now wants.
If these were honest people rather than sociopaths they would have already gotten the ball rolling on sanctioning Israel, not talkie-talkie about, maybe, in the future, merely recognizing the statehood of the country of the people being right now Genocided by Israel, something with no inherent impact on Israel and hence not a chance in Hell from stopping or even slowing down the Israeli Holocaust.
If you want to spot the truly Evil Hypocrite Sociopath politicians, just observe who at this point when the Israeli Genocide is well beyond undeniable and has morphed into a Holocaust by Starvation, is "threatening" Israel with the possibility of some future recognition of Palestinian statehood.
Only somebody on the extremely end of the sociopath spectrum would at this point in time and whilst confronted with pictures of children dying of starvation and overwhelming evidence of the IDF executing civilians trying to get Food Aid, waffle and finger wag about thinking of, maybe, in the future, doing something which puts no pressure whatsoever on Israel.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Canada is currently selling any more weapons to Israel. The government had sent money in the past (Under Trudeau I think) but nothing under Carney.
First result from a DDG search for "canada arms exports Israel"
Last I checked France was doing a similar thing, whilst the UK is literally flying surveillance flights over Gaza and giving the info to Israel, selling weapons to Israel (in their recent "review" they cut something like 2% of licenses for weapons export to Israel and then loudly proclaimed that they had "cut weapons sales to Israel") and even arresting British citizens who are merelly planning to demonstrate against the Genocide.
People who are OK with the mass-starvation of children don't have any moral or ethic qualms about deceiving the public.
Damn. Any ways to apply pressure against this as an average citizen?
They plan to recognize it in September? Why wait?
Because the UN General Assembly takes summer holidays too. No matter how eager Carney may be to declare it, he still has to wait for the UNGA to resume in September.
Maybe they will all have starved to death by then.
