My friend felted the dog fur into a sweater for her hairless cat. Felters truly are the trash goblins of the art world.

Pet hair, glitter, and nerf darts. You will never finish getting rid of them

[–] FoxyFerengi@startrek.website 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is why nerf darts are strictly banned from my home. It's like they multiply after the first one is lost under a couch cushion

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I will see your Nerf darts, and raise you airsoft BBs. I still find the cats playing with one every now and again, or pick up a stray one with the vacuum cleaner. I can't remember firing an airsoft gun inside the house at any time more recently than about 15 years ago. And yet.

[–] brachypelmide@lemmy.zip 2 points 14 hours ago

i second that. whenever i think i finally cleaned up the last BB i still find one more laying around

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Years ago (2019), my ex and I bought those little magnetic balls for our kids. To this day she is still finding those balls all over her house.

~It’s the gift that keeps on giving.~

I literally stumbled on a nerf dart like a couple hours ago, what the hell?!

You've been to my house, it seems.

[–] Crostro@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And that's why I have leather couches. You don't see the hair until you need to move the cushions, then you have little mountains to vacuum up. Or, put the cushion back down and watch your living room turn into a snow globe

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

But their nails will ruin the couches before long.

That's why I have covers on my fake leather couch. 2 layers, actually, but we used to have a great Dane.

[–] 87Six@lemmy.zip 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Having cats is like having toddlers but for thd rest of your life, idk how people like it

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 3 points 10 hours ago

That's because most people don't train their cats. They let them get away with stuff as a kitten because it's cute, so when they're adults and the behavior is an actual issue, it's much harder to train out.

But I wasn't even talking about them scratching on the furniture. Pet nails often touch the surface they're standing on, so they will cause damage by just existing if allowed on the furniture.

15 years and counting. Idk if Italian leather makes the difference though. I didn't buy them, gift from my parents. Nails aren't the issue, wet dog is. Every year I have to buy leather dye but it doesn't last. I'm about to get rid of them.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 8 points 20 hours ago

I put a full couch cover on the they usually vomit on it within 2 days.

Barn cats are peak cat. You get to play with them outside, they eat rodents, they don't come inside and ruin everything.

[–] OhShitSon@lemmy.zip 17 points 1 day ago

*Rodents, the local birds, and other small animals.

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 10 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, fuck the local wildlife if it means you don't have to deal with the hair of your pet being on your couch.

[–] grahamja@reddthat.com -5 points 22 hours ago (4 children)

Do you get upset about the coyotes and bears that live outside? Do you get upset some people avoid homes filled with pet dander, and their petless homes are cleaner than others?

Yeah, and introducing invasive species is one of our strongest weapons to that end.

[–] ObtuseDoorFrame@lemmy.zip 7 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

This is the worst argument I've ever heard in defense of outdoor cats. Granted, there are zero legitimate arguments for outdoor cats, so managing to find such a shitty reason is actually kind of impressive.

[–] grahamja@reddthat.com -4 points 19 hours ago

I cannot care less, pets are a luxury. Enjoy your fuzzy furniture. Farm animals live in a barn.

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago

No, because they are not hunting bird and small animal species to extinction.

They're also part of the native ecosystem so anything they do kill is generally for subsitence, and not impactful to the ecosystem they've existed with for thousands of years.

Barn cats just kill for fun.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago

no i just feed shelter cats to the coyotes while my daughter cries

[–] sean_lemmy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 23 hours ago

Good if you have kids too. Encourages them to go outside

[–] Engywuck@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And that's the single main reason I don't want another cat after my two cats died, a few years ago. Love cats, but living in an apartment makes dealing with hair a real struggle.

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

Some shed very little compared to others. Afaiu shorthairs are better in this regard.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 6 points 9 hours ago

My GSD shed this year from February to July. Her coat never got thinner she just kept making and shedding the undercoat for 5 months. My roomba came around the corner and just said "I'm Tired Boss" I started breaking out the dustmop because it was filling a bag every 2 days.

finally in august, she just stopped shedding and hasn't re-formed her thick coat yet.

might have to get her a calendar for xmas....

I am the owner of a black fabric couch and a large dog with longish, mostly white fur. It's a battle against windmills.

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 6 points 10 hours ago

I don’t understand how my dogs aren’t bald.

[–] Daveyborn@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Got a fluffy black cat and a fluffy white cat. I also mostly gave up.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I've got a black dog and a white dog, one furry, one hairy. A little of everything, like a nice sampler platter.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

one furry

I'd ask them politely to only wear the fursona outside the house
