Out of the loop and I’m not creating a bluesky account for that link. What’s the context?

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 7 points 10 hours ago

Goddamnit. I was having a good day until now.

I forget, what was the original text?

I work at a local university, so despite not being considered a state employee (with regard to our state laws), I am a state employee. I completely get the special rules we have to follow that normal employees don’t. For example, I can’t unionize.

It’s based on how you’re classified. OP sounds like an administrator /non sales professional/computer professional of some kind, so no they do not qualify for OT by federal standards.

Section 13(a)(1) of the FLSA, which was included in the original Act in 1938, exempts from the minimum wage and overtime pay requirements “any employee employed in a bona fide executive, administrative, or professional capacity[.]” [Source]

When I see these generation-hating comments — specifically older generations hating on something the younger generations do — I can’t help but think about whose fault it is for whatever slight the older generation feels.

Who created digital clocks? Who created iPads and iPhones? Who created video games? Every single generation has their own slang that each previous generation fails to understand (not because it doesn’t make sense, but because the previous generations are too lazy and/or stubborn to learn).

Ironic given the community you’re posting to, and its own rules. But 🤷‍♂️.

I can’t help but feel Douglas was poking fun at himself, considering how his editors had to lock him in a room to finish So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish.

Go on dates. Get to know her. Talk to each other daily. Be patient and respectful. Admit your mistakes and work to correct them. Learn from them. Include her in your decision making. Find things that you two can do together as a couple (preferably that you both enjoy). Find things that you two can do separately of each other (take time for yourselves). Relax. Breath. Hold hands (when appropriate). Compliment each other daily. And do it all because you want to, not because you have to.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

A few months ago, I bought an American Standard brand toilet seat that soft closes. It was nice. But apparently after about 6 mo of normal use, the plastic piece for the lid broke; a week later, the seat ripped apart from the hinge. That’s the American Standard for you I guess. /s

So today, I go get a different toilet seat, and as I’m trying to adjust it to fit on the toilet, I notice that they gave me two left brackets.

So now I have to go back to the store and hope they will open boxes until we find me the correct right bracket. And before anyone suggests flipping the left bracket over: you can’t. Each bracket has grooves cut into one side that fit in the specific side of the mounting bracket that attaches to the toilet.

I hope y’all’s day is going better than my week! 🤣

My 12 yo has recently gained an interest n learning to skateboard. I have a board already, but its trucks and wheels are rusting out. I would like to replace them with new ones, and I wanted to ask what would be good (economical) trucks and wheels to get?

The current trucks and wheels don’t have any branding information that I can see.

I have always gotten sore exactly two days after a workout. I just joined back to my gym, and had an intense workout on Monday. Today I would’ve made a penguin look like a prima ballerina with how stiff and sore I was/am. Thank deity for hot showers. I’m not looking forward to Friday. 😅

Why YSK?

Because a lot of older games require immediate response from the controller (think jumping over pits).

Each TV is different, and may or may not have a game mode. For the longest time, I thought my lag was because of my Raspberry PI (model 4, 4gb). Turns out that turning on the game mode/game optimizer was all I needed. I also added a link to a post that has suggestions for Retroarch changes that can decrease input lag. Relavant content from post:

  1. Set max swapchain to as low as possible, I think 1 and 2 run pretty similarly.
  2. Turn on hard gpu sync and set it to 0
  3. Set frame delay as high as you can go before you get stuttering. On the pi 1, I can go to about 8 with NES core and 4 with SNES. On Pi 3 you can probably go higher, but systems with higher graphics like N64 and PSX won't let you go as high before you run into problems.

And:

(when asked where the settings are) You need to access the retroarch rgui menu while you are in a game. You can do this by pressing X button and select at the same time. Once you get to the rgui menu, you want to click on settings, then video.

John Morales, the actor who played the crime-fighting cartoon character McGruff the Crime Dog, was sentenced to 16 years in prison stemming from a 2011 arrest in which police seized 1,000 marijuana plants, 27 weapons – including a grenade launcher – and 9,000 rounds of ammunition from his home.

Why do I get a sense that maybe the Breen could be related to the Ubese?

For anyone who doesn’t know, a clock movement is the mechanism that causes the hands of an analog clock to move around the clock face. The “with pendulum” part means that it also swings a weight back and forth to act as a fancy second hand:

Now, there exist clock movements that are “smart” and are network enabled to adjust the time automatically. I’m also okay with an atomic movement. The idea is to adjust the clock twice a year for DST. However, I am having a difficult time (no pun intended) finding a smart/atomic movement that also supports a decorative pendulum.

I was hoping to enlist y’all’s help to see if one exists and where I might find it.

Edit: add comments about atomic clock movements.

Surely the Founders can understand, right?

I’m watching S7E20 right now and the entire scene before the Defiant undocked from DS9 had that cinematic vibe you only get from a bonafide Hollywood movie.
