My children were deprived of the right to burn themselves from a mixture of childhood curiosity and piromania

You sound like one of those smarty pants that never accidentally set fire to their parent’s kitchen trashcan.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

You're spot on there!

[–] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 26 points 8 hours ago (3 children)

Im too poor to have this issue. Didn't even know new cars don't have them anymore lol

[–] blave@lemmy.world 23 points 8 hours ago (3 children)

They were almost completely phased out almost 25 years ago.

What are you driving?

[–] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

The 12v receptacles are still around, and you can buy the lighters, it is an option still really

[–] blave@lemmy.world 10 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Oh, I know, and thank goodness, too. Otherwise, I would not have been able to power, my iPod, and eventually, my iPhone, through the 00s

But I did notice that even the 12 V receptacles were phased out for a couple of years until they were brought back by popular demand because people are needing to power devices like phone chargers, and what not.

F150 smokers package borther

[–] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Well I know that at least a 2003 volvo s60 and a 2014 bmw f30 have had them :3.. or the ones I've been in did anyway lol

[–] blave@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

Sorry, I should’ve been more clear… I was just referring to the actual lighter, not the 12 V “accessory port”. Those are still pretty common.

Smoking while driving is illegal in many (not enough) countries so it makes a lot of sense that they would be removed.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 7 points 6 hours ago

how the fuck am I supposed to stay awake while I drive?

guess I'll just sniff my own farts.

[–] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Very common in my country :3

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 8 hours ago (3 children)

I wish it was banned everywhere. If you wanna kill yourself with cigarettes then do it the normal slow way with cancer, but dont endanger other people by being distracted while driving.

That’s as unamerican as trying to ban masturbation while driving.

[–] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Imo they should just ban smoking in public in general, I hate choking on someone's cancer fumes while going down to the store or whatever

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah basically disallow smoking in all places where people gather. Bars, outdoor restaurants, sports events, etc.

[–] Z3k3@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

We have this and it works for the most part.

Pubs there tends to be more people blocking the door than in the pub as when a smoker goes out for a fag the non smokers tend to follow to continue the conversation.

[–] BlackVenom@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

You must never have smoked. There's nothing distracting about smoking... But the unfulfilled addiction, if banned, could lead to some nice road rage videos.

[–] JeSuisUnHombre@lemmy.zip 1 points 8 hours ago

My 21 year old car doesn't have them

[–] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 10 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Fuck, this was my first burn in my entire life when I was 4.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Mine was cleaning up sparklers and not realizing it mattered which end you picked up.

[–] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

In retrospect we're all like "how could you make such a mistake", but I guess ya gotta start somewhere.

Apparently that "somewhere" happens to smell like crispy flesh. Who knew?

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Oh, but since then I've made so many much more severe mistakes!

[–] OldManBOMBIN@lemmy.world 8 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I agree. I miss my thumbnails. Gotta go, I'm smoking Winstons in my Pontiac.

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago

I can smell this post

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 4 points 9 hours ago

Oh yeah, the idiot tester.

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

y'all got burned with those? first time I played with it I noticed it was bright hot and obviously didn't touch it!!!

how many of you didn't notice its bright hot!!!

[–] Cordyceps@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 hours ago

I mean I knew it was hot, but surely it would be fine to touch just a little? ..no, it was not. First and last time I've heard my flesh shizzle

[–] Johanno@feddit.org 3 points 4 hours ago

I knew stuff was hot and touched it anyway. I was dumb and I don't knew why I did it

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 hours ago

Some kids were just too dumb to notice it or thought it was probably some kind of light.

[–] BobbyGasoline@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

I removed mine and added a usb /usb-c plug. Its not like I was using it for anything else.

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 2 points 4 hours ago

I recently used a hairdryer to light up a match because the striking surface got wet. Same principle.

[–] Themosthighstrange@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

Are you smoking yet ?
