“[This] appears to be an action by Jimmy Kimmel to play into the narrative that this was somehow a MAGA or Republican-motivated person,” Carr said. “What people don’t understand is that the broadcasters … have a license granted by us at the FCC, and that comes with it an obligation to operate in the public interest. When we see stuff like this, look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

Welcome to your fascist state, ladies and gentlemen. If you don't kiss the ring and grease the palms, then you're out.

[–] Deconceptualist@leminal.space 106 points 1 month ago

look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way.

Said exactly like a thug in a mob movie.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 35 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think the hard way sounds like a fun time

[–] primrosepathspeedrun@anarchist.nexus 27 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah, I'm kind of curious what 'the hard way' is for the fcc.

Counterpoint: what is the FCC going to do to physically stop them? Jam the signal? Send in men with guns?

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 30 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (22 children)

Revoke their broadcast license, to make it impossible for them to be on the air with their distributors.

Generally productions are a multi-stage process with several companies involved.

We have a rule on the book that interprets the public interest standard that says ‘news distortion’ is something that is prohibited

Unbelievable. Nobody tell Fox News

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 38 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Pretty sure Kimmel isn’t news.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 48 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's exactly how Fox got out of their bullshit. Claimed nobody actually believes they're real news.

[–] primrosepathspeedrun@anarchist.nexus 27 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Kimmel is literally a comedian doing primarily comedy though. A wolf dressing in sheep's clothing is not a reason to kill all sheep.

It’s pathetic what Trump and his band of goons are doing to America.

I almost moved to the US at one point. It’s never been perfect but I grew up seeing it as a force that did bring about a lot of good in the world.

This is pathetic.

“Not in the public interest,” that line is going to get squeezed for all its worth.

[–] RaskolnikovsAxe@lemmy.ca 80 points 1 month ago (9 children)

Emperor Manicula's tweet.

collapsed inline media

This is the President of the United States, tweeting about a talk show host. Everything has gone to shit so quickly and thoroughly that sometimes you have to take a step outside of it, back to the before times, to clear your head... and then you are once again returned to the realization that the fucking President is tweeting about talk show hosts.

Man, this guy is a fucking loser.

These little piss babies and their cancel culture.

Edit: no longer just a threat. https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/nexstar-jimmy-kimmel-abc-charlie-kirk-1236522584/

[–] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This would be much harder if we hadn’t just spent 40 years rubber stamping every corporate merger and let companies like Nexstar and Sinclair buy up all the local tv stations.

Softest president and party of all time 🤣

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 26 points 1 month ago

Even the president who died like a few weeks into his presidency because he didn't wanna go see a doctor was a better president.

So to clarify.. Jimmy Kimmel did not even mention Charlie Kirk in this monologue more than as a reference to the killer.

he literally said

We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.

To classify this as "removed over comments about Charlie Kirk" is insane! He was talking about his killer and the reason he was removed was clarified by the FCC chair.

[This] appears to be an action by Jimmy Kimmel to play into the narrative that this was somehow a MAGA or Republican-motivated person” - Brendan Carr

Yet all the headlines read "for comments about Charlie Kirk"!

Should all be saying "Removed for commenting on MAGAs actions following this shooting"

/edit typos

Kirk on the last South Park episode:

"We as conservatives have thick skin, not thin skin, and you can make fun of us and it doesn’t matter."

I guess he didn't know his audience.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 37 points 1 month ago

ABC fucking took him off the air:

Walt Disney-owned ABC confirmed on Wednesday, Sept. 17, that it will indefinitely suspend "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" after the head of the Federal Communications Commission condemned comments made by the Emmy-winning comedian.

First awhatment to the U.S. Constwhatution?

[–] wetbeardhairs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

At this point I consider the US government to be fully illegitimate. POTUS doesn't uphold the constitution. Congress doesn't uphold the constitution. SCOTUS wipes its ass with the constitution.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

Understandable. We're in some deep shit. Assholes breaking down the walls to rip out the copper while we're still living in the building. I'm hoping they touch the wrong wire and electrocute themselves before they can finish jackhammering through the foundation but things aren't looking great.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 29 points 1 month ago (2 children)

So give that the FCC was threatening him, I wonder if he would have a case for 1st amendment violation case against this the Trump admin.

[–] ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Are you fr? Do you really think "the system" will solve any of these problems?? Lol. Lmfao even

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Let's see what the Supreme Court has to say? Oh wait...

If theyre not banning fox news over the murders, why do we give a single shit what the FCC says? Do they have shooters?

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

FCC: Kill the homeless? We cool.

FCC: Was kirk gusher's shooter a MAGA person? That is to far.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Can anyone direct me to or link me to the exact monologue in question? I’m not certain which is the one the article is referencing.

[–] Jimbabwe@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I…really? That was…tame. I’m confused.

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 24 points 1 month ago (3 children)

The right-wing mediasphere is in a frenzy equating anyone talking bad about Kirk with 'supporting political violence'. They're doxing people, calling their jobs to get them fired, etc.

This is just more of the same kind of bullying.

You can say that we need to kill homeless people on Fox News but you can't claim that Republicans are pro-violence without being doxxed, harassed and canceled.

Damn, Democrats weaponizing government agenices to push their radical left beliefs!

Oh wait, that accusation was just a confession. Another piece of evidence for that claim.
