Woh - when I originally saw the clip I didn’t realize how quiet and orderly it was prior.
My mind would have definitely gone towards someone in a vehicle plowing through.
They shot it at the crowd during a moment of silence.
Yea I was searching Mahmoud Khalil on Youtube and some youtube short got recommended, and at first I thought it was some conspiracy nutjob, but I was like whatever, I'm bored and want to see what crazy stuff they got and they shows the serbian protests and I just had to google it and its terrifying how real it is. I think might have heard of LARD but then my brain kinda burried it since I don't really attend protests.
It looks like the noise caused some panic but that there was no real impact otherwise?
In theory, there should be no permanent harm, but who knows what they will do with this technology in the future.
They could tweak the technology and use it to damage people's organs, then maintain plausible deniability because no bullets were ever fired, and its much easier to cover it up. The government of Serbia is already trying to deny that the police used it.
The technology def has the capability to destroy eardrums for example. Super fucking scary
Yes, the Serbian government is trying to deny the use of LRAD but there are dozens of videos of the event and thousands of personal testimonies.
Is this the same as the Cuba syndrome shit?
Sudden crowd movements are a real impact with potentially deadly consequences, panic is not something to be dismissed
I'm not at all dismissing it. I think crowd crush is one of the most horrifying ways to die. I'm just trying to understand the immediate impact of this weapon.
Perhaps no impact this time, but its certainly being used as a weapon and it did something to those people that made them run away for their lives
This is the most useful YSK post I've ever seen on Lemmy. Thanks.
The ADS is weird. It basically does the same thing as a microwave at long range.
I remember watching some tests of the system in college. It was great for crowd dispersal, because it causes burning sensations quickly.
But, because of its frequency, it can be blocked by aluminum foil. And because it's directed, if you, say, line a jacket, or the back of your protest sign, you can protect yourself and those behind you.
160dB noise thing though? That's a bit different of a story. I don't think the operators would be immune from that.
Standard shop ear protection with a riot shield & he was able to walk almost up to the device at 150db:
doing God's own work. this is all I wanted to know.
Also, those tin foil hats aren't as crazy as we thought 🤣
It would be ironic if tin foil hats could deflect directed-energy weapon
The conspiracy theorists are probably feeling so vindicated right now 🤣
This conspiracy theorist just ctrl-f'd for havana and scoffed at the 0/0
Yeah, but tinfoil hats are almost perfect 5G antennas, so if you don't want covid, the point's pretty much moot.
Tech ingredients has some interesting videos on microwave crowd control weapons, and how to defeat them. It's mostly metal mesh in your cloths or a shield.
You should not have to say "I know this sounds like some conspiracy nutjob's imagination." It's unfortunate that is where we are. There are lot of things that seem conspiratorial but that are true. Our government has sponsored & done terrible things. There are even court cases describing in detail what they've done. Yet if you tell people, especially on the left, they act like you're a right-wing nutjob.
What's the best way to nullify them?
Metal lined in clothes for heat and ear protection and riot shield for sound.
Very interesting at the end of the video they turn the shield around and it actually reflects the sound back at the operator
Funny that equipping the equivalent to middle age combat gear (chain mail, helmet /w hearing protection, shield) is probably the best way to protect oneself.
Or a goddamn mech suit from Fallout
If T60 armor were real, battles would definitely be faster. There's a reason the Battle of Anchorage changed the tide. And that was just the T45 armor. Had a weak point though apparently.
You should also know that you have the technology to build such a device yourself! Just ask your nerdy university friends and professors!
Now, I know. Thanks. 😄
I have directed kinetic energy weapons though.
So....wear earplugs?
