What motherfucker is out here straining their creamed corn? LMAO

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Real talk!

I distill mine for that extra corn corniness. And use the mash as masturbation lubricant.

there's nothing more american than crankin your hog with corn oil

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Chip bags are full of air to protect the chips from being crushed in transit.

Your corn is full of... uh, whatever it is that's in there with creamed corn in order to protect your corn. Obviously.

I once took a can of boiled peanuts and shelled all the peanuts. I measured everything in the can out as I did this. I basically ended up with...

  • ⅓ peanut water juice
  • ⅓ peanut shells
  • ⅓ actual peanuts

Though in all fairness, everyone knows the shells are basically their own automatic wasted space, so I dunno.. 🤷

Are canned boiled peanuts worth it? I've never had boiled peanuts (never seen them in Canada) and I'm curious, and I assume importing them canned would be easier than getting them "fresh boiled".

Oof, good question, can't say I have a solid answer for you though.

Here in South Mississippi, and pretty much anywhere down south, canned boiled peanuts and fresh boiled peanuts are both readily available and both reasonably affordable.

The canned peanut options tend to come from grocery stores while the fresh peanut options tend to come from gas stations/convenience stores. I never really bothered doing a price comparison by weight though, either way they seem reasonably affordable.

Fresh boiled peanuts when you want them fresh right then of course, canned boiled peanuts to stock in the pantry for bad weather or lazy days when you just want your salty snack without having to leave the house.

Or from the back of a stranger's van in a parking lot 🤌

Hey, however you like to get your nut.. 🥜

They're ok. In my experience they have less of the "pops" which are the ones with shells so soft you can eat the shell. They are the most delicious part of boiled peanuts.

If you get some definitely heat them up.

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

When I get them fresh from the gas station, I heat them up alright..

I know someone is gonna ask me for some at some point, so I mess with people by randomly mixing half and half of salty peanuts and cajun spicy peanuts. I like them both, but if you want some of my peanuts, you never know what you're gonna get...

I live in an area that has them "fresh" in a crock pot in most gas stations. Seasoning and boiling them yourself is the way.

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

They’re not quite the same but still good. The fresh ones hit especially well on a road trip but the canned ones are filling tasty and a good engaging snack.

Creamed cans are 100% wasted space because I'd rather a cow puke in my mouth and I eat that then eat creamed corn.

You’ll have summoned Cody Johnston with that.

The reason nobody complains about it is because nobody ever opens a can of creamed corn. It's beyond disgusting.

Besides, having less creamed corn is a benefit, not a problem. The best outcome would be to open the can and find it empty. You deserve to lose your money for buying something that was so disgusting.

The grossest creamed corn story I ever heard: I worked with a woman whose husband had the exact same breakfast every morning - a bowl of corn flakes, with a cold can of creamed corn poured over it.
