TW: suicide???

An autopsy report seen by Newsweek showed Ge was found tied with a bedsheet, with linens around his wrists and ankles in what the report described as a "hog-tied" position. The medical examiner noted that there had been other reported incidents of people who had hung themselves having done something similar, and that there were no obvious defense wounds.

Am I missing something here? How does someone hogtie themselves and then hang themselves? How is this being considered a suicide? Am I on crazy pills?

It's not uncommon in Russia for people to commit suicide with a couple gunshots to the head, and then jumping out the window.

Thankfully Dick Cheney can no longer enter the chat.

David B. Rankin, the family’s attorney, in a statement to Newsweek: “It is truly mystifying how any detention facility can let someone leave their room, create three nooses and then hang themselves without anyone knowing. What’s worse is the lack of mental health care which could have prevented this tragedy. Mr. Ge’s death represents a totally failure on the part of the GeoGroup and the DHS.”

Seems like everyone is playing along with the claim of suicide while trying to get the details from DHS/GeoGroup.

We are all on crazy pills on this glorious day.

[–] Eezyville@sh.itjust.works 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's how it's done in the United Soviet States of America.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 1 day ago

Easy on the "United".

[–] jdredbeard@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

It's the same sense that Epstein "committed suicide."

A lot of people seem to "commit suicide" who were inconvenient to this Admin

[–] GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 day ago

I literally just copied the same exact passage intending to ask the same question here. I'm not understanding how this is feasible.

This is absolutely tragic, regardless of the answer. But... how is this even possible?

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ever heard of Occam's razor?

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yes. I've also heard of Hanlons razor. Just because a philosophical concept exists doesn't mean it's universally applicable.

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What about Gillette's razor?

Wow look at Newsweek calling an execution “found dead”

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 79 points 1 day ago (6 children)

To be fair, they also said “with hands and feet tied.” They’re avoiding getting into legal hot water and all the readers know this smells like murder.

[–] tornavish@lemmy.cafe 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don’t think legal hot water is something that applies to journalism today.

Trump is litigiousness AF.

"suspicious death at ice facility" would be fine.

Why is the media not questioning this?

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 55 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Because they're owned by the billionaires who support this

ICE is a terrorist organization

[–] anugeshtu@lemmy.world 10 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Maybe they should call themselves ICES

Does anyone have a list of all ICE detention facilities?

Not for any particular reason. Definitely not to see if anything can be done to free the victims.

Definitely not so that international efforts could help coordinate the rescue of the victims.

[–] drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Speaking hypothetically, i think adresses of members would be more useful.

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Problem I have with that, is that ICE personell can be replaced easier than ICE facilities.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 7 points 23 hours ago (5 children)

If a 4 goon squad kicks in a door and 2 or 3 come out alive after meeting a 12 gauge, eventually they’re gonna have to try a lot harder to recruit.

Problem is, that tipping point means immediate bloodshed all over. I honestly don’t know of any other way to beat a Nazi than with a bullet to the head.

What's next? "Decapitated limbs found 100 feet apart, with the head in the center on a pentagram. Ruled as suicide."

So are we calling this a prison murder or a state sanctioned assassination?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Obviously it will be ruled as a suicide.

[–] TheMinister@sh.itjust.works 12 points 22 hours ago

The insane part is, as stated in the article, even the family’s attorney is saying “how could you let someone get out of their cell, and tie three separate noses to hang themselves?”

What in the fuck, how is his not automatically determined to be foul play? NOT EVEN BY THE ATTONREY SUING THE DHS

[–] lando55@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago

Sprinkle some crack on him to be sure

[–] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 9 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Are you tired of having to appear by zoom before a judge in the Hague every time you assassinate a suspected spy?

There's gotta be a better way!

Seriously though wtf is this bullshit? Did you see the fucking weird ass shit they're trying to pin on this guy?

Who the fuck "hog ties themselves?"

[–] BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago

What the fuck will it take for people stand up and say no more. What has happened to this country. This is inhumane, what was his crime, just existing and trying to make his life better

[–] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 25 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (3 children)

He was accused of accessing a device issued to another who did not authorize its use, conspiracy – accessing a device issued to another who did not authorize use, theft by deception—false impression, conspiracy—theft by deception, criminal use of a communication facility, and unlawful use of a computer—access to disrupt function.

Uhh are we sure a different agency didn't perhaps target him for arrest bc they thought he was a spy, and then murder him while in custody? This doesn't seem like run of the mill trumped up ice bullshit.

Not that they wouldn't torture and murder somebody, but this seems a bit more professional than I would expect CBP to pull off. Especially if it's true he didn't have any defensive marks.

Never really thought about how easy it might be to sprinkle in a few government trained assassins in the chaos of every new batch of rushed ice recruits. Like if you had already been keeping people on a DHS watchlist for decades beforehand, this could be an easy way to detain them without drawing attention.

Other reports of people hog tying themselves? To commit suicide?

Could be your next Canadian or European tourist.

[–] Routhinator@startrek.website 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hence why Canadians are ceasing to travel to the US in record numbers and that has not recovered at all.

He's found hog-tied and hanging, and it's declared a suicide?

It also said that several others have died in a similar manner.

How does someone who is hog-tied commit suicide? And how does it get to be a common method of suicide?

The more likely scenario is that they tie up people in this manner for some reason (torture, punishment, entertainment) and if they die, they report it as suicide, and nobody questions it.

This reminds of Ellen Greenburg in 2011. True Crime Garage podcast is talking about in their current episodes. 20 stab wounds the authorities are claiming were self-inflicted.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 14 points 22 hours ago

US civil rights in its current state right now = near zero.

[–] AliSaket@mander.xyz 13 points 14 hours ago

In some places in the world, some people seem to get incredibly clumsy when they're near open windows. In others, they have very guilty consciences to the point of killing themselves.

Why is everyone ignoring the possibility that that he was an illusionist?

This man was obviously performing escape magic and failed during the final death defying illusion.
