Anyone else ever noticed how there is no longer an option to permanently reject or completely disable an option anymore?

Every 3 weeks I get a popup in MS teams (yeah I know, but it's for work, nothing I can do about it), that asks me if I want to pin the AI agent tab and the only option is yes please or remind me later. What the actual fuck is this shit?

If a human being tried consent this way, they’d be a sex offender.

[–] besselj@lemmy.ca 100 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"Got it, I'll send you fewer unsolicited dick pics"

[–] lauha@lemmy.world 35 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Did you mean "Got it, amount of dickpicks won't increase as much this much"

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Want to not receive any dick pics? Sign up for our Dick-Pic-Free plan, starting at only $9.95/month! *†

*By using our service, you accept our terms and conditions and will be automatically signed up for monthly auto-payments. Terms, conditions, and prices may change at any time without prior notice.

†If you think this sucks, wait until we reach the next stage of enshittification. The Dick-Pic-Free plan will be upgraded to Dick-Pic-Lite, featuring no more than 3 dick pics per day. This change will be automatic and, good news, the price will remain the same! Because lol fuck you

[–] untorquer@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Your Dick-Pic-Free plan for $9.95/mo will now be Dick-Pic-Free With Ads for the same low price! To get Dick-Pic-Free without ads, sign up for our new tier Dick-Pic-Free Plus for $12.99/mo.

"we'd be sad to see you go :( dick pics have been snoozed for one month"

[–] KelvarCherry@lemmy.blahaj.zone 35 points 3 days ago

Silicon Valley has always been run by rapists, so that checks out :)

[–] besselj@lemmy.ca 129 points 3 days ago (7 children)

YouTube is also guilty of this behavior. Every month it's "got it, we'll show you fewer shorts". Zero. I want zero.

[–] remon@ani.social 44 points 3 days ago (2 children)

You can remove them with custom uBlock rules:

www.youtube.com##:matches-path(/)a#thumbnail[href*="/shorts"]:upward(7)
www.youtube.com##:matches-path(/)a#endpoint[title*="Shorts"]

I wish I had the permissions to install ad blocks on my work laptop. On the plus side, the kids I work with are learning that ads are to be disliked. When an ad interrupts something we’re watching, I go “booo.” Now one of my students does it, too.

At least I can consider it a form of inoculation - gotta teach ‘em young to resist the ever-present ~~brainwashing attempts~~ advertisements.

[–] dotslashme@infosec.pub 5 points 2 days ago

I wish I had the permissions to install ad blocks on my work laptop.

Me too, what is up with not having an adblocker or bring able to install one? So many ads pose security issues and not being able to block them is just annoying and unsafe.

[–] poweruser@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 2 days ago

The internet got a lot less annoying after I learned how to use uBlock Origin's "Enter element picker mode"

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 33 points 3 days ago (18 children)

Youtube is worse. If you click "dont recommend this (far-right rage-baiting) channel" it says okay, and then leaves you alone for perhaps a week.

After, right back to square one as that channel is in your recommended feeds

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 25 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Your clicks say no, but your algorithm is telling me yes. 😘

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 3 days ago

Shit like this is why freetube exists. Subscribe to the channels you want to see, get only those channels!

Really? I have managed to completely block a few channels from getting recommended, including one I didn't want to block. Annoying thing is there's no way to manage these blocks, only remove all of them at once.

[–] themaninblack@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Have tried to exterminate Jordan Peterson recommendations for years to no avail.

Modern internet is impossible to use without a copious amount of plugins. Every website has some fucking cancer that needs to be removed in order for a site to be even remotely useful.

They know it’s addictive, and they’ve designed it that way on purpose.

If a software monopoly that is too large and important to society to be dismantled or avoided, and it uses that power to abuse its users and defy regulation, shouldn’t that company be nationalized?

[–] Bocky@lemmy.world 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Could you imagine if YouTube was nationalized and then the govt shutdown and utube traffic controllers stopped coming to work because they weren’t getting paid

[–] RickyRigatoni@retrolemmy.com 15 points 3 days ago

Youtube nationalized, gov shutdown, and everyone starts uploading porn and movies because all the moderators stopped coming to work.

[–] RickyRigatoni@retrolemmy.com 57 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You don't have to apologize for teams. Everyone knows nobody uses it for fun. Only work.

[–] dotslashme@infosec.pub 23 points 3 days ago

True, it was more of a parry for the inevitable dont-use-teams-comment

[–] CovfefeKills@lemmy.world 38 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Does Microsoft understand consent?

a) No b) Nope c) Fuck no lol

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

a) Yes.
b) Ask again in 15 days and 3 hours.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 37 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I’ve been listening to way too many Behind the Bastards podcasts in a row this week, but, apparently, Peter Thiel’s pick for the antichrist is a nebulous finger point towards the anti-AI movement.

All of it, the data centers going up faster than a fireworks tent on fire combined with decreased regulation and the dismantling of democracy reads as pure Thiel.

In short, this AI crap isn’t going away anytime soon.

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Can we all get together across the country and burn down as many data centers as humanly possible? Seriously, just a wave of wires across the country.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

If local city council representation would simply vote with the wishes of their voters, then we would have no data centers.

These people are guilty of fraudulent representation and should be recalled.

I knew you were going to use Microsoft as an example. They're very rapey in behaviour.

Would you like to receive my penis?

  • Yes.

  • Ask me again in 2 hours.

[–] SparroHawc@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

It's not just Microsoft any more though. Practically any time you have a prompt for something in software/web pages that benefits the company, the only options are 'yes' and 'maybe later'. It's become so ubiquitous that I'm genuinely surprised when a prompt like that actually has a 'no' option.

I’ve suddenly been getting regular Windows notifications from Adobe asking me to set them as the default PDF app.

Very annoying when I use Adobe reader once a month or so to sign documents.

[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

They tried AI the nice way and nobody gives a shit about it but billions have been spent already so they are tightening the screws to make you use it. This is late stage fuckery and hopefully the whole thing will collapse soon.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 9 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

It's up to the OS, software or web app and I'm happy to report that not all of them do this.

But I have noticed that on Win11 this seems to be the standard. On those rare occasions. Particularly funny (not really) if they're phrased in such a way that you have to think hard which specific kind of temporary rejection you choose, for fear of messing up.

[–] webp@mander.xyz 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Do you want to eat shit?

  • Yes please
  • Remind me later
[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 6 points 3 days ago

Thats been a thing for many years.
