Rumor has it, if you say "a algorithm" three times, Hazel has a aneurysm.

I do top -> 6 hours it keeps it fresher

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Top 6 for all, new for subscribed, works for me.

[–] hakase@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Top 12 first thing in the morning, top 6 after 2pm, hot after that; new for subscribed.

I'm jealous of you having enough suscribed comms

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hot keeps showing me month old posts

[–] hakase@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Weird - hot practically always shows me stuff <2 hours old.

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

I've set lemmy to automatically hide read posts, so since it hides those for me, it tends to show whatever it can find.

I do the same except for when I wake up. At that time I go top of 12 hrs, mainly to help keep me up-to-date on what happened in other time zones (usually the US lol) when I was asleep

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

I set Voyager to auto-hide on read. Top 24hrs has more content than I can read in a day that way.

[–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

My problem is rhe slow burners dont make it in, meaning you miss many current events. I now use Top Week because "You didn't hear about ...?!?"

IMO the bad grammar adds to the quality of this meme.

You didn’t have to do this

[–] GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca 2 points 18 hours ago

I appreciate both of you.

🫡 Salute the people who use new and upvote all the quality stuff so the reast of us can use top day

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

Imgur users on ‘new’ once ran an experiment for a day where they upvoted basically anything — in practice, oddest and weirdest stuff bubbled up. I've never seen such entertaining feed before or after.

[–] gerald_eliasweb@reddthat.com 2 points 1 day ago

Accidentily shared that to the group chat. Thats going to get taken out of context.

[–] Rooty@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Top day is bottom day as well

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 12 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I feel scaled is worth a mention too

[–] kartoffelsaft@programming.dev 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I like the idea of scaled; boosting posts from smaller communities seems like it'd be a great way to find the niches I'm into.

The problem I run into is that it goes so far that not being upvoted at all is enough to put a post on the front page. That'd be fine if it was pulling from a variety of sources, but testing it out just now I saw 5 posts in a row from the portugal comm, all with a +1 -0 score. Is it supposed to work like that or am I missing something?

edit: 6 actually lol

collapsed inline media

[–] gerald_eliasweb@reddthat.com 3 points 1 day ago

I forgot that exists ( • ___ • )

[–] Little8Lost@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Thats my fav

[–] lazynooblet@lazysoci.al 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What's wrong with top day sort?

[–] gerald_eliasweb@reddthat.com 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The same three people who have alot of followers always end up at the top.

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

Yes...have you not been managing your duchies!?

[–] lazynooblet@lazysoci.al 2 points 1 day ago

I expect the algorithm is simple. Posts with the most votes are selected. There are more complex algorithms that perform weighting on various metrics, but then the "algorithm" becomes a black box, and accusations of it being manipulated will surface. Votes can be manipulated, but they are public, so they can be scrutinized.

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I only use top when I just discovered a fresh community. Hot is where it's at

[–] WhiteOakBayou@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Hot All is the only way for me. Keeps it fresher longer.

[–] gerald_eliasweb@reddthat.com 2 points 1 day ago

Download our app, and dont ask why its always open in the background :)

[–] anton@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

Sure, let me make a web request when the user presses the back button. Can't see anything wrong with making the user wait every time.
