The incident unfolded Saturday in Chicago’s Old Irving Park neighborhood, where residents say federal agents disrupted a children’s Halloween parade

Shocking video shows a chaotic scene on a quiet Chicago street as Border Patrol agents in tactical gear drag a 67-year-old man from his car while children in Halloween costumes look on in horror.

According to his running club, the man, who is a U.S. citizen, was returning from a team run when agents pulled him out of his vehicle, tackled him to the ground and kneeled on top of him, allegedly breaking six ribs and causing internal bleeding.

The incident unfolded Saturday in the city’s Old Irving Park neighborhood, where residents say the agents disrupted a children’s Halloween parade amid an immigration enforcement operation.

This was CBP, not ICE, but both groups are Nazis.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 75 points 1 day ago (2 children)

These guys are just the SS at this point.

[–] notgivingmynametoamachine@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And they should be dealt with as such.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago (5 children)

So what sort of low risk tactics can we start advising for people in areas where ICE is active? As much as we all want them shot on sight, I think a lot more people are willing to engage them in ways that they are less likely to be arrested and have their lives ruined for.

Things like snipping tire stems, or paint splashing windshields, are still probably going to get you in trouble, but you have a larger chance of getting away than directly assaulting an ICE agent. But that risk will still deter lots of people.

I want the Internet tacticians to brainstorm something that my 60's white mom might be willing to do if she got the chance. Phoney reports maybe? Bad driving and eating a ticket? What can we come up with besides holding signs and recording for social media?

Rape whistles.

People have already been using them. As soon as ICE shows up, you start blowing the rape whistle and you don't stop until they're gone. This alerts anyone with brown skin to get out of the area and it also draws a crowd. And we've seen the videos where these fascist cowards run as soon as the crowd gets too big.

This alerts anyone with brown skin to get out of the area

I want everyone reading this to understand how surreal it is to have to type this sentence. It's a condemnation of how far we've fallen as a nation.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 5 points 1 day ago

I bought a Fox 40 whistle, 125 decibels. Less than $11. Considering that 1,800 people sent to Alligator Alcatraz are missing, that money might save lives from a mass grave.

Pebble/lentil in tire stem if vehicle unattended.

it's what these guys were doing to protest large vehicles : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyre_Extinguishers

for the braver people, follow the French for inspiration. They were cementing cinder blocks in the road

[–] sneekee_snek_17@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm gonna get a slingshot, so i can dent door panels and shatter windows/windshields from a good distance away without the possibility of it being considered lethal force

I also want to dent cybertrucks

[–] tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 day ago (5 children)

They will still charge you with attempted murder and terrorism if you're caught doing that, they've charged people worse for less. They have been detaining people and making up charges against even the most passive peaceful activists.

Water balloon with paint isn’t a bad idea. Bad driving that prevents them from getting to their location, also not a bad idea. I think it comes down to context. You’ve really got to consider what’s going on and how safe you are by doing anything. In some contexts, your 60yo mom might get dragged out of her car and kneeled on until 6 of her ribs break. In others, you might be walking by an empty squad car, agents busy elsewhere, and you happen to have a paint balloon.

I have a very active, physical job, and I break a rib or two every decade or so, just to remind myself that I'm alive - it reminds you with every breath for a few weeks. I already had this decade 's break earlier this year.

So I know what it takes to break a rib, and what it feels like. I can't imagine the kind of force it took to break SIX ribs badly enough to cause internal bleeding. I've taken some terrible falls, and I've never hurt myself anywhere near that badly.

To cause that kind of damage to an unarmed person cannot be justified in any way. Surely they could have detained him without causing that level of injury.

And he was an innocent American citizen? I hope he sues the Federal Government, ICE, Holman, Noem, Trump, and the ICE Nazis who injured him.

Pay the man.

[–] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 53 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You legitimize ICE by using the terminology of actual law enforcement. They didn’t “detain” him, they assaulted and kidnapped him.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And he was an innocent American citizen? I

To be clear (I don't think you're suggesting this), it should not fucking matter.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago

Valid, but it does matter that as an innocent American citizen, they shouldn't even have been LOOKING in his general direction, to say nothing of trying to murder him.

If I were him, I'd be working on my wish list of expensive stuff I'm going to buy when I get my multiple settlements.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I can't imagine the kind of force it took to break SIX ribs badly enough to cause internal bleeding.

Unfortunately not that much force is really required when you're dealing with someone who is 67. The elderly are a lot more fragile, even if they are in great shape for their age. Which is why anyone without a brain disease knows to be gentle when assisting the elderly.

There is no reason to use this much force against an unarmed senior citizen other than to physically harm them.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Remember in the first Trump administration, when they were just practicing their cruelty, and they permanently disabled an old man for having the nerve to politely return a riot cops helmet that he had dropped? In response, the cop shoved the old guy, knocking him down, bashing his head, and destroying his life.

I will never forget watching that video, and as the old guy hit the pavement and laid there, a trickle of blood came out of his ear, and I knew he was seriously injured.

That was an accident, now they're doing purposefully.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 day ago (4 children)

that was an accident

No it wasn't

What do you do that you regularly break ribs? Like sports? Or do you bolster the weight of something with your torso? I've worked a not very intense physical jobs, but more physical jobs than customer service or office work, but I can't think of how one would keep breaking ribs

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 13 points 1 day ago (8 children)

It's not that often, just once every ten years or so. I fell off the back of a truck once. A five foot fall onto your side on pavement will do it.

Once I did it chasing a duck so I could pick it up for my son at a big petting farm. I was chasing the duck, it juked around a tree, and as I juked with it, I realized I was about to mow down a grandma and her little grandson. So I threw myself out of the way, and went down hard. My son was about 5 then. He's 26 now.

This year, I fell pushing a small compressed gas dewar, and the wheel caught in a crack in the sidewalk, and we both went over, I fell on the tank, and broke a couple of ribs. There have been other times, too. I first did it as a teen on a Boy Scout trip. Like I said, about once a decade.

I don't even go to the doctor any more. I know what it feels like, and I know what he's going to do - nothing. I can do that without wasting my time.

I have realized that most of my injuries have been caused by moving too quickly. I am trying to measure my movements more carefully, and take my time. As I get older, it takes longer to recover.

For those who only know about Chicago from the news:

Old Irving Park is a nice, mostly residential historic neighborhood on the northwest side. It's not the nicest or fanciest (those are more toward the lake) but it's definitely on the upper end. It's a neighborhood someone in a high rise might move to when you have a family.

Bonus fact: Chicagoans mostly stick to normal pizza. Deep dish is for tourists.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 10 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Deep dish is delicious, but it's also expensive. One of the great things about pizza is that it's supposed to be cheap.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

It's expensive, hard to eat, and heavy. Thin crust keeps the party going, deep dish makes you sleepy.

Real "Chicago pizza" is tavern-style thin crust, yum.

Things banned in #LandoftheFree:

  • Drones (because you must be a CCP Spy or Mexican Cartel member)
  • Radios (because only drug cartels use them)
  • Building electronics gadgets with complex wiring (because Mrs. Karen says she saw an "illegal" with a "bomb")
  • Perfume (because its definitely drugs)
  • 1st amendment (because bald JD Vance = terrorism)
  • Excercising (because running = crime)

Did I miss anything?

[Edit:

  • Doing Algebra on a plane (remember that?)
  • Speaking a non-English language (must be a spy talking to their handler)
  • Hand gestures and sign language (must be gang signs)
  • Tattoos (must be MS-13)

]

Fyi, I would not have dared to make this Lemmy account if I weren't a US Citizen, but even so, I still wonder when gestapo comes to my door, given how things are going.

If my account ever becomes inactive, either I forgot the password, or I'm in Gitmo.

Excercising (because running = crime)

Dude wasn't even running. He was in his car just trying to go home after running. Turned onto his street and got pulled out of his car and assaulted.

I cannot WAIT for the hammer to fall. Nazis were not this bad to their own citizens. I read an article that said the Republicans are planning to escape to Venezuela if the mid terms go bad for them. These fucking Democrat pussy politicians better prosecute ICE and everyone involved in this.

Trump is literally trying to provoke confrontation were none is so he can have a weak ass justification to clamp down harder .. just in time for mid terms.

He is a fucking traitor.

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nazis were not this bad to their own citizens.

Really? The relocation to ghettos, the camps, the beatings, and the gold stars/pink triangles were better treatment than this? On par, sure. But better?
