Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). I tell ya, this is all just a prelude to cancelling elections.

[–] blarth@thelemmy.club 15 points 10 hours ago

He is trying to incite a civil war. Russian psyops are working with him on this.

[–] WhatsHerBucket@lemmy.world 15 points 10 hours ago (4 children)

They won’t be cancelled, that would be unconstitutional.

Instead, ICE will be posted at polling places and intimidate people not to vote.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 10 hours ago

Yeah it's way more likely ICE will be used to occupy cities in general. For one, they don't have the same rigorous health standards that the military does, and for two, they just massively ballooned the budget of ICE for the specific purpose of recruitment. A lot easier to get dumb easily controlled thugs that way then trying to get the military deeply involved. The military being sent out is just Trump trying to pretend he's swinging his big dick around when it actually shows how weak he must be to be doing it.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 12 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Trump doesn't give a single fuck about the constitution.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

No, but he literally does not control elections, as they're run at the state level. It's why he's going for more work-around ideas like working to villainize things like vote-by-mail. It's the same play as it ever has been for Republicans, make it harder to vote so only the rich who support them can actually make it out to vote. Make it increasingly difficult for the lower classes to have their voices heard. The dumb yokels may be the loudest Trump supporters but one of the biggest blocs of Trump voters were business owners and other relatively wealthy citizens.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 10 points 9 hours ago

That's why MAGAs have been making a concerted effort to systematically take over elections boards etc.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 6 points 9 hours ago

This is the obvious way to so it, no new power and you get to have elections you cam trick liberals into believing they're forced by philosophical principals to honor

Any excuse to declare martial law.

Anyone want to bet he says Martian law?

[–] sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.io 7 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Scribbling out a square on my bingo card and adding Martian Law.

Even if it isn't, responding as if it is won't be a terrible thing I do. Do what you can to resist this in your daily life.

Another inch forward and we all stupidly pretend this means nothing.

[–] xyzzy@lemmy.today 20 points 9 hours ago (5 children)

I said this is the other thread, but what is the appropriate response? He's clearly setting the board, and he definitely wants to shoot protesters. He very likely wants sufficient violence to do something dramatic. They even may try to instigate, but have thus far been unable to get the desired response to enable martial law or whatever they plan.

So you have three options:

  1. Violent response
  2. Non-violent response
  3. No response

Which of these three do you propose?

[–] Jumbie@lemmy.zip 15 points 9 hours ago

See, there’s a fourth option: The people with the power need to take action and I don’t mean a “strongly worded letter.” I’m talking about the leaders with the knowledge and the levers to move this along.

If they don’t the inevitability is that No Kings becomes more than the nice picnic it currently is for citizens.

Me? I’m a citizen just like you. I have no power unless you and I become a team.

[–] xyzzy@lemmy.today 11 points 9 hours ago

Update: I watched the full video of what he said and now I really do believe he's just genuinely that stupid and thinks he's actually trying to put down a riot. Fox News really plays him like a fiddle.

Portlanders are pretty sarcastic and many people have posted videos of "life in hell" (his audio) set against a beautiful Pacific Northwest summer with boats and farmer's markets.

I dunno, I'm inclined to think mockery in this case might be the best response for the time being. We'll see how next month's protest goes, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were entirely peaceful.

Portland just recently broke the top 50 safest cities in the US. Just so you know what that assclown is targeting.

[–] F_State@midwest.social 22 points 7 hours ago (3 children)

There are a huge number of country bumpkins that saw Portland on the TV during 2020 and assumed/were mislead into believing the whole city burned down and it's just a smoldering wasteland now. The actual problems were in a relatively small area downtown; most of Portland was unaffected.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I work with people in the software engineering field that have mentioned wanting to visit Portland but ask me if it's safe.

I can't even.

[–] F_State@midwest.social 5 points 4 hours ago

I won't lie, the city has had problems but people's online rants about it are always overblown and always from people who don't live or visit there.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 hours ago

Plus, that was a long time ago. I drive by the Seattle "snowflakes beware" area a lot. It's just Seattleites doing their thing.

War ravaged? Is this part of his delusions?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 46 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (4 children)

Yep. The fascist party propaganda machines (Fox, OAN, NewsMax) have been reporting that Seattle and Portland are literal war zones for years now. I live in Seattle, and when I travel to the South or the Midwest, I always get the "ohh I'm so sorry" concerned comments from people when they learn where I'm from. So many people think that the cities literally burned down entirely.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 15 points 10 hours ago

You should ask "who's telling you this?" The follow-up is "you should ask yourself 'why are they lying to me?'"

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 14 points 9 hours ago

Minneapolis as well. We drive up to northern Minnesota to see family every year and I usually stop for gas and lunch in Minneapolis. Our family up there thinks we're insane. They're like "you stop in MINNEAPOLIS?!? are you all ok?"

[–] F_State@midwest.social 5 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I see this online about Seattle all the time. (Plus hyperbole about the fent/homeless prob) People will be ranting about how awful Seattle is and how you can't go anywhere near it and I'm like "Really, I was there last month and had a lovely afternoon"

Oh yeah, they think BLM burned cities to the ground and there's riots everyday and fentanyl heads on every block, broken up with the occasional roving trans kidnapping gangs.

Claims to end wars and then goes to war against us.

[–] Blum0108@lemmy.world 13 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

We are an occupied nation.

What war?

"Don't worry, we brought it with us in our luggage."

[–] easybre_bb@lemmy.zip 28 points 6 hours ago

This guy hates the constitution

[–] xenomor@lemmy.world 24 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

If you are a service member, you have a responsibility to refuse illegal and immoral orders. By participating in this administration’s un-American fascist projects, you position yourself as an enemy of the constitution, an enemy of the law, an enemy of the people. We did not accept “just following orders” as a defense the last time we put down a fascist uprising, and we wont accept it this time.

Clearly Trump hates traditional American values like the constitution, the separation of church and state, freedom of speech and habeas corpus. I guess he should be put on his own terrorism watch list

[–] Kurious84@lemmings.world 18 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

So war against ourselves it seems.

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 5 points 10 hours ago

America First? Wait .. America you better finally win one of these, I have no interest in my country being 2 through 100 and whatever ..

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 16 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Wonder when the US military is going to move to defend the US constitution ..

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 9 points 6 hours ago

Never. Literally not gonna happen. Best you're going to get is some of them joining you when the civil war begins.

[–] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 13 points 8 hours ago

What a complete and total waste of money. Your money.

[–] shittydwarf@piefed.social 11 points 10 hours ago

To get the Trump/Epstein files?

[–] BlueEther@no.lastname.nz 11 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

When can we start to enact economic sanctions against the US, any smaller state and there would have been repercussions for either the leadership or the country in general.

[–] chiocciola@lemmy.cafe 7 points 10 hours ago

I think the better solution is to remove those agents from the state. I’d prefer it be from existence, but will settle for geographical relocation.

[–] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 11 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Hopefully we are reaching a point where the military just says no.

I still don't know if trump realizes how Hitler died.

Sounds like he's already preparing to say the city was already ravaged before he sent the military in.

[–] F_State@midwest.social 5 points 7 hours ago

The only "pushback" from the Mayor or Governor that I'll respect is if Police arrest National Guardsmen who break the law (it's inevitable they'll break the law). Otherwise, they're cowards at best and complicit at worse.

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

"Yes he is bad but he can't be as bad as Hitler"
