[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I thought we were on step 17. Maybe I got the version that breaks the steps up into baby steps.

Makes the fascism slightly easier to digest

Slightly

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 35 points 9 hours ago (3 children)

That's just his way of saying "Stop talking about the Epstein files!"

What the fuck are you even talking about? This is a fascist takeover of blue cities, this is not a distraction from anything Jesus Christ

Do people truly not understand just how bad this is? Read a fucking history book

[–] Ileftreddit@lemmy.world 7 points 4 hours ago

Well it certainly has stopped the chatter about Epstein, fascist takeovers tend to supplant other news

[–] killea@lemmy.world 32 points 20 hours ago

Ah, so laying clear obvious groundwork for martial law. I can't wait for another slew of news articles somehow soft-balling this whole issue.

[–] MorksEgg@lemmy.world 29 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Of course he will. This is just a the lithmus test to see how far he can push the envelope and seeing what new laws need to be instituted or changed to get his desired outcome. If he doesn't get much push back from DC, he'll move on to a larger city, new state. Not New York or California, too big, too soon. But maybe something smaller like New Mexico, where you can add on the border as an issue. I'm not familiar with New Mexico any of their cities having immigration problems? You're hardly ever hear anything about New Mexico, they must be pretty chill down there.

And I understand a DC provides certain specific powers that he doesn't have in other states. They've already overturned a few of his decisions, but it doesn't seem to slow him I'm down much anyway. So I got a feeling they're only going to keep escalating.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 14 points 19 hours ago

Depending on how that mayoral race turns out he just gearing up to take control of NYC. Hell I bet it's one of his wet dreams to rule that city.

The march of fascism continues.

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 26 points 18 hours ago (4 children)

See, this is the part where I expect the non-Americans to get very loud about us not doing anything.

And I expect they will receive silence from Americans.

Because as soon as that distance from DC to anywhere starts getting smaller, it will be anything but silent offline.

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 18 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

NonAmerican here.

When are you freeing folks from death camps?

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 6 points 9 hours ago (4 children)

Well, if you have an idea how to do that before we get rid of this regime, I'm all ears.

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 7 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

If millions of you start behaving the same in a passive aggressive way then people will have to react. Drive the speed limit. Everywhere and bottleneck the roads like the French farmers do Bottleneck parking lots. Bottleneck any area that has a lot of semi trucks. Take longer at intersections to go and stop for those yellows. Take longer to fill your car with gas. Take longer to unpack your groceries at the check out. Pedestrians take longer to cross and exit the crosswalks closer to the green. But things on Amazon and return them. Buy things at box stores and return them.

If millions of you do this roads and streets will back up and be congested. Maybe take a day a week and do it by something that’s important to MAGA people. Pick politicians and get to the airport before that are due in. Strangle the roads for them. Make them wait and idle in frustration.

LOL what?

Are you saying Americans will rise up once Trump imposes martial law in the next place?

Sure, sure. I'm certain thats the line Americans will not allow him to cross.

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 7 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

No. I'm saying that the distance makes it pretty damn difficult to do anything outside our own locale. And DC is small compared to his other targets.

DC has a population of ~700,000. Chicago has a population of ~2,700,00. LA has a population of ~3,800,000. NYC has a population of ~8,500,000.

And those are just the city boundaries, not the areas around them.

A guy threw a sandwich at a cop yesterday. He was out numbered. He probably knew he was going to get arrested. But he did it anyway. In the bigger cities? People have far less patience than he did.

You won't hear squat about resistance efforts anywhere. OPSEC is a thing people are well aware of.

So military control of blue states is normal now? Might be time to stand up against this 🤔

[–] StarryPhoenix97@lemmy.world 15 points 21 hours ago

Imagine how many world conflicts might actually have been caused because someone didn't want people to know they fucked 14 year olds...

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 10 points 6 hours ago

He might be able to get away with it in DC, which has always had second-rate status in America, with nobody watching out for them. He won't be able to do that in states with hostile governors who are not only NOT afraid of him, they are itching for a fight.

[–] obrien_must_suffer@lemmy.world 8 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

State's rights until it isn't.

[–] TangledHyphae@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

"Washington D.C. is not a state; it is a federal district, officially the District of Columbia. Its creation and governance are directly established by the U.S. Constitution, which designates it as the seat of the United States government."

[–] obrien_must_suffer@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

Correct, but I was hypothesizing that when they try to do the same things in other cities as suggested in other comments, all the people that were vocal about state;s rights on other topics will likely be silent.

[–] arin@lemmy.world 7 points 21 hours ago

Just Nazi progression

[–] mitch@piefed.mitch.science 6 points 20 hours ago
