Username checks out

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 1 points 9 hours ago

Jimothy sounds like one of those English sounding names that Chinese people like to give themselves. Like Samanfar

Wait wtf, the video I'm referencing is almost old enough to vote? God damn it I'm old.

[–] ianfraserkrillmaster@midwest.social 30 points 23 hours ago (3 children)

i would go with the quaint yet dignified "Jimb"

[–] saltnotsugar@lemmy.world 10 points 23 hours ago

I like the cut of your…Jimb.

[–] AmazingAwesomator@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago

jimb can cause a chuckle in business meetings.

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

How about Jimp? Every friend group needs a Jimp.

[–] MummifiedClient5000@feddit.dk 3 points 22 hours ago

Like "jump", but with an i.

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 2 points 18 hours ago

Bring out the jimp

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 29 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Elizabeth for girls.

Elizabeth, Eliza, Beth, Lizbeth, Liz, Lizzie, Lizard, Lisbian, Lisan Al Gaib, the options are endless.

[–] taxiiiii@lemmy.world 14 points 13 hours ago

Coming out as lisbian

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 29 points 18 hours ago (3 children)
[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 7 points 17 hours ago

Jimothy on special occasions

[–] dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works 3 points 18 hours ago

Is that your king / baron name?

[–] sprite0@sh.itjust.works 3 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Jame Gumb the only one I ever heard of

[–] BitchPeas@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Was she a great big fat person?

[–] danekrae@lemmy.world 24 points 21 hours ago (1 children)
[–] darvocet@infosec.pub 3 points 18 hours ago

Thank you for not misspelling it as Jamethon.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 18 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

How about Jimbo, but with the "J" pronounced like an "H", as in Spanish.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago

Only if you also pronounce the i as you would in Spanish, Heembo

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 1 points 9 hours ago

I'd go with Hi-May...

And spell it just like that.

[–] logicbomb@lemmy.world 12 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

James seems like the least nerdy of the names that have common nicknames. Richard is another one that's not nerdy.

Same with Robert.

Do you remain Robert?

Become boring Bob?

Rob with one b or Robb with two?

If you're feeling whimsical, is it Robby or Robbie?

[–] ddplf@szmer.info 7 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

And if you're transitioning, you should probably avoid picking the name Margot

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (2 children)

Funny enough, Margot is part of a family of names that's even bigger than James and Robert.

Margot, Marjorie, Marge, Greta, Rita, Megan, Maggie, Gretchen, Maisie, Molly, Peggy... The uniting feature is that all of these names are considered variants of "Margaret," and this isn't even a comprehensive list.

[–] nyctre@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

Margherita and Margarita are my fav. Both delicious.

That's virtual insanity!

[–] kibiz0r@midwest.social 7 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Knew a guy named James Jones. He went by Bob. For reasons.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

that's a good reason to go by Jamie. Jamie Jones sounds nice.

[–] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 6 points 12 hours ago

Jimbo Jorker?

[–] Jojowski@sopuli.xyz 4 points 20 hours ago

Jam the man

[–] SeaDawg@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

"Imagine if I had a name like Jimmy Recard" (Jimmy Recard from Drapht) is looping in my head now...

[–] ODuffer@lemmy.world 4 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

In the UK at least, 'Jay' is also commonly used for James. Not a bad choice. In addition, James Bond would like word about 'Nerdy' !

[–] Worx@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 10 hours ago

Jamie Fookin Lannister

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 3 points 17 hours ago

The formal variant is Jame-o

[–] anomoly_@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

Okay, how about you're Jimmer, you're Jimmy, and you're Jim Bob. So you all get to be some version of Jim and we don't got to be in, fuckin... Cats.

[–] Meron35@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

Actually, James is short for Jean Names

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

Any Australians out there able to comment to tell us if Jim-o is a valid nickname?

[–] Zenith@lemm.ee 3 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

It doesn’t matter if it’s valid or not aussies will turn anything into a nickname

[–] redwattlebird@lemmings.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Nope. We usually shorten the last name instead if it doesn't roll off the tongue easily. Or we name them after a beloved fictional character, eg. jimbob.

What would a Gregg know about this

[–] N1ssen@lemmy.wtf 2 points 18 hours ago

I'd go with the European Jimmy

[–] redwattlebird@lemmings.world 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Dunno. Greg sounds more nerdy than James.

[–] LunaChocken@programming.dev 1 points 9 minutes ago

Greg

Gregtech. - a highly sophisticated automation heavy mod for Minecraft

[–] Aetherion@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago
