The Forbidding Unlawful Representation of Roleplaying in Education, or FURRIES, Act, filed by Austin-area Republican State Rep. Stan Gerdes, would "prohibit any non-human behavior by a student, including presenting himself or herself, on days other than exempt days, as anything other than a human being."

The law would allow for exempt days, such as Halloween and other school dress-up days.

The law defines "non-human" behavior as "any type of behavior or accessory displayed by a student in a school district other than behaviors or accessories typically displayed by a member of the homo sapiens species," with provided examples being:

Using a litter box for the passing of stool, urine or other human byproducts

A personal or outward display, except during a school play or by a school mascot, through surgical or superficial means of features that are non-human such as using tails, leashes, collars or other accessories designed for pets

Using fur, other than naturally occurring human hair or a wig made to look like human hair

Artificial, animal-like ears

Other physiological features that have not historically been assigned to the human race through a means of natural biological development

Students who bark, meow, hiss or make other animal noises that are not human speech

Licking oneself or others for the purpose of grooming or maintenance.

So this is a law that bans something that has basically never happened? And obviously it's going to be abused and kids are going to get arrested for wearing headphones with cat ears or any other garment that could be construed as animal dress up?

Fear and propaganda. The life blood of their party is in pushing the great fear of the big scary thing as a target to push through their rules to make the people safe...

It's nazis just before the camps go up and the Jews get put in train cars.

Always has been. Satanic panic. MTF trans athletes dominating in women's leagues. Crossdressers raping women in bathrooms. Metal music. Rap music. Harry potter. Immigrants being criminals. Immigrants being lazy and unskilled workers. Immigrants taking our jobs. Migrant caravans parading through the borders. Drag Queen groomers. Students shutting in litter boxes. All of these things were inconsequential or downright nonexistent but construed as the greatest threat to society each time.

90%+ of illegal immigrants arrived legally, by plane, and have overstayed their visa. The most dramatic and widespread athlete stories are completely inaccurate, like the AZ bikepacking story where the trans woman destroyed the record... in a co-ed event. No evidence exists that any student ever had a litter box or that a cross dresser rapes a woman - regular men bust into the women's room all on their own. Metal music has way deeper, heartfelt lyricism than pop. Rap is always a racist thing. The drag queen thing is a dichotomy with trans athletes. Somehow, the queer community's threat is that they'll sexualize and convert children, which leads to their ban, but the most important detail in sports has to do with bluntly confirming what type of genitals your 12 year old pitcher has. The whole Harry Potter thing was probably a push to blend Christianity into government.

Ban kids from playing pretend? This is gonna go swimmingly.

[–] MajorHavoc@programming.dev 32 points 2 days ago

The youth are famously reasonable about complying with stupid rules. (This is sarcasm.)

Is it an unisual word? I thought it was common, but maybe it's a local thing

[–] weariedfae@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, not an unusual word. I've heard The Youth(tm) have a different vocabulary though, so it might be an age thing?

[–] Kit@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Could be. I heard it a lot from my parents who were born in the 1940s.

[–] NotSteve_@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I’ve heard the term plenty as someone nearing their 30s. Never used it myself though

The law defines “non-human” behavior as “any type of behavior or accessory displayed by a student in a school district other than behaviors or accessories typically displayed by a member of the homo sapiens species,”

Acting like animals is something humans do, just saying...

This is so vague it could mean any behavour. God, I hate facists.

Banning 4 year old girls from wearing a headband with kitten ears. Good work.

Glad the tax dollars are being used for good old fashioned morals! I can remember in my day no one used their "imagination" as a crutch to groom others! Here here with the leadership we have been yearning for since them damn hippies took over and talked about clean energy and responsible corporate greed. I can't remember the last time we had such a clear bearing going towards a future that is exactly like the past!

They are obsessed with these things. I wonder why? Repressed desires, I say.

The problem is, this can affect kids following (do I even need to specify it) harmless trends like plushy overalls or hairbands with ears.

So, they are also obsessed with dominating kids and putting their fingers where they don't belong.

Reminds me of this 43 year old song:

Laß doch die Kleinen in Ruh
Laß doch die Kleinen in Ruh
du kuinierst mich so
du alte Sau

edit: Full lyrics here. Definition of kuinieren.

Oh, they’ll go there next, don’t you worry…

[–] spizzat2@lemm.ee 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Laß doch die Kleinen in Ruh

Laß doch die Kleinen in Ruh

du kuinierst mich so

du alte Sau

kuinieren Aus französisch coionner. Hier in der Bedeutung von quälen, plagen, misshandeln.

So basically,

"Leave the little kids alone. Leave the little kids alone. You torment me so much, you old pig."

oh man. I knew so many little kids that would have a spontaneous im an X day. This is so wierd. So its. First they came for the trans, then they came for minorities, then they came for the women, and then the furries

Licking oneself or others for the purpose of grooming or maintenance

Whew, so you'd still be able to lick people for other reasons.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

The law would allow for exempt days, such as Halloween and other school dress-up days.

And I think they just sanctioned furry halloween. It's gonna be wild.

Imagine being the lawyer who gets to defend our First Amendment right to fucking meow in front of the Supreme Court

[–] golden_zealot@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 day ago

Literally banning children's imaginations.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 day ago

A personal or outward display, except during a school play or by a school mascot, through surgical or superficial means of features that are non-human such as using tails, leashes, collars or other accessories designed for pets

Whew so surgically implanted tails are still good for plays

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What happens if you have tourettes

[–] Worx@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 1 day ago

The on-site police officer probably violently arrests you. And I'm only like 30% joking, from what I've heard of American schools

[–] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah yes, doing the important work. A lot less options with halloween though. Is Spiderman or Batman still ok, or too much animal reference? And what about cops, they all look like pigs. Are they going to arrest their colleagues every morning when they arrive at work?

[–] Tilgare@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Halloween actually got a specific exclusion.

[–] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Nice. Halloween is going to be a massive furry swarm for sure.

[–] RymrgandsDaughter@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

Is this even a real problem or are they just wasting time
