RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

Dude was like a pillar of the lemmy community and I believe a mod as well. I haven't seen him in weeks. Hopefully he's doing ok.

You never know what's happening in folks' real life.

Real life happens, often so seriously and so fast that you don't have time or effort to post online for significant stretches.

Hell, he might even be in the hospital, he had a history of difficult medical issues.

We can always hope for the best of the folks we lose track of online, but it's not unlike that meme about your old gaming friends.

collapsed inline media

Here's hoping everything is going okay not just for @FlyingSquid@lemmy.world but for everyone who disappears from our community.

In case you missed it, he's fine, he's just not here.

Probably busing after relocating to the UK

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 22 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I hope that his lord fixed the elevator in his building

[–] CuddlyCassowary@lemmy.world 32 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (3 children)

I know you (probably) meant landlord, but your typo cracked me up. I shall now go pray to my elevator gods for continued ascension.

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 14 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Personally I took it to mean a feudal lord, it's both sad and funny that way.

[–] CuddlyCassowary@lemmy.world 8 points 6 months ago

That works too. Feudal lords are the new slumlords, but also the OG slumlords.

[–] Blaze@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 6 months ago

Nice one ha ha

Busing? I think you'll find our public transport is exemplary.

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 49 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (2 children)

Well, he moved here to the UK but we ain't eaten him or nuthin'.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 27 points 6 months ago (2 children)

That's an odd statement to make out of nowhere. What did you have him with?

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 17 points 6 months ago (2 children)

~~Well, we call them broad beans. And a nice chianti.~~

Er.

Did I mention before that I'm a vegan? I subsist on a diet of Gregg's vegan sausage rolls, plastic shoes, and smug self-satisfaction. Definitely not squid, flying or otherwise.

Vegan? Oh? Is that why your handle is a (badly misspelled) word for a rabbit dish??? Hmmmm.

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 4 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

It's not misspelled at all you cheeky fucker. It's my real name (this is a lie) and is an anglicalisation of Hasenpfeffer.

Captain Blackadder did not eat this delicious plump-breasted ~~pigeon~~ flyingsquid

[–] hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 6 months ago

Then why is there a tentancle on your plate?

[–] tal@lemmy.today 48 points 6 months ago (1 children)

If I remember correctly, he moved to the UK relatively recently, and I believe I remember him later making some comment about it being important to get a job.

If that's correct, he may be busy with getting a job in a new country. If he does need to do that, probably best not to push him to sink time on modding, since I suspect that he may be pretty tied up; real-life stuff should probably take priority.

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 6 months ago

Ah yeah that's two life changes in one bundle. No doubt he's busy as shit. I'm glad to hear this.

[–] Maiq@lemy.lol 32 points 6 months ago

I think they went on walkabout. Last time I saw them was posting about European power outlets.

Probably enjoying some irl time.

[–] Smokeydope@lemmy.world 22 points 6 months ago

Could have just taken a break from Lemmy to focus on life stuff. Those stats for comments and post in 1.8y takes a lot of time and energy.

Hope they are doing well also.

Good? He was a huge asshole, who regularly banned people for disagreeing with him or his extreme bullshit views. He was also famous for trying to lord over people about being a mod if losing a discussion...

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 6 months ago (1 children)

His instance .world has some strict/stupid rules, which he did enforce. I didn't like it either but instead of blaming the messenger I simply left .world.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 11 points 6 months ago

No he would literally bias ban just like jonsjava and most of .world.

He wasn't just a messenger he would get into an argument, start to lose then ban and remove.

I hope they're ok like most people but they were kind of a petty asshole at times.

This subject was brought up earlier this week on the Star Trek shitposting community that they frequented. No definitive answer.

It's been quite peaceful actually

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 10 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

I saw him post at least 1 comment yesterday, but has deleted it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–] waz@lemmy.world 9 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I blocked them a long time ago. I didn't even notice that they were gone.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 15 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Dude tried to ban me for saying Bibi was abusing the Jewish faith to genocide Muslims.

Idk about fuck him entirely, but I didn't need his Zionist ass in my feed.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 6 points 6 months ago (1 children)

There is a large section of the Jewish community who believe you shouldn't be allowed to kill innocent.

No I'm not him before anyone asks, this has been my screen name on other platforms for close to a decade.

[–] Contemporarium@lemm.ee 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

It’s kinda weird that it’s just a large section lol

Anyone making 10 posts a day for over a year should probably definitely take a step back from lemmy
