You can definitely trust the Trump administration to be honest and pay what it says it will, and definitely will not immediately kidnap and throw you in its concentration camps when you come to collect the money!

Sorry, are they seriously saying they'll pay anyone in mexico $1,000 if they come to the US for a few days?

They don't care. Obama deported more people than Trump. Trump cannot have that. At this point it's just a matter of beating that number for him. If people intentionally come to the country just to pad that number for him, it's a win in his book.

Could be funny, if canadians would start to drive over to Alaska, just to claim the 1000$

[–] Vex_Detrause@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 days ago

Who will make sure they get the $1000?

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

It's a reverse bounty.

[–] LastYearsIrritant@sopuli.xyz 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Sure, but the catch is they'll never be able to come into the US legally again.

Sounds great for the next 4 years, but the winds change. In 20, 30, 50 years this place is going to be completely different, but you'll still have a deport on your record.

It's quite a gamble for $1,000.

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 3 days ago

You're also assuming they won't just lure people in with the promise of $$$ and then kidnap them into concentration camps anyway.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sure, but the catch is they’ll never be able to come into the US legally again.

They are going to create fucking agencies for gaming this system. They don't need to immigrate permanently if they're making thousands of US dollars for shuttling people across the border for the express purpose of "self-deporting" once they get here. There are millions and millions of people in Mexico who have no interest in living in the US but sure wouldn't pass up $1000 USD for a short vacation north of the border.

Yeah, as a tourist you could just overstay your visa and get rewarded for it.

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago

We can pay DIRECTLY to depopulate and lose money while we lose money! It's a lose lose!!

When the illegals he promised to kick out of the country are actually the ones reaping the rewards of our tax dollars and getting literal handouts while the administration slashes the budgets of American science institutions and kill funding for PBS, NPR, the education department, etc. etc.

I mean, how big of an organization do they have to create to track and monitor all the self-deportation incentives they're giving out? This is going to cost billions and billions, or it will be completely gamed by Mexican and Canadian "agencies" designed to let foreigners have a short vacation in the US and get paid after.

Hire a phony ‘successful business executive’ reality show personality as the chief executive of the wealthiest nation on Planet Earth—what could possibly go wrong?

[–] ButteryNickel@lemmy.wtf 5 points 3 days ago (3 children)

When all else fails, throw money at it until the problem is gone.

[–] constnt@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They aren't ever going to get any money. This is the same scam police use to capture people with warrants for their arrest. Tell them they won the lottery and they need to meet at X place to collect their prize then arrest them. The immigrants will arrive at the location and immediately be carted off into a concentration camp.

[–] GroundedGator@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

They might add a few extra steps.

  1. Promise money
  2. Migrants come to collect but are told they must wait to be transported out before they get the money, you know so we are sure you left.
  3. Hold them in detention and fly them to El Salvador
  4. If the money comes up, tell them that you had to deduct transport and housing and that they actually owe money now.
  5. Actually give the money to whatever private business you're trying to line the pockets of (CIC Transportation and Detention LLC?)
[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Our money. He's throwing our money at his problem.

I guess for his base and supporters, they understand how this works about as well as how they understand tarifs.

Infinite money glitch

[–] RandomVideos@programming.dev 4 points 3 days ago

If your gouvernment is saying that it will pay you if you went to them and told them how to pirate software, they are probably not interested in learning how to become a pirate

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago

This is his least evil method for destroying the economy yet. Progress?

[–] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Holy shit, I just realized it now, he's Donny La Rue!

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

This is the most humane immigration policy of this Admin. The only problem I have with it is the amount is stupid low. $5-10K would probably be motivating to many immigrants and would still be cheaper than paying icepigs to kidnap them.

The only downside I can think of is immigrants crossing the border just to collect. But that's not really much of a problem and quite funny on top.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's cheaper than sending out ICE and detaining someone let alone a trial, that's why.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yet also not enough money to move to a different apartment let alone a different country.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Doesn't really matter, Trump doesn't care. He's just fishing. If literally 1 person takes it, it's a success (to him).
