I used to work late hours on the third floor of a four-story building that housed a comedy club and bar in the basement. The constant noise and distractions made it almost impossible to concentrate.

Probably depends on the bar, but even if you can’t hear it through the floor, you can still hear it through your windows. Bars can be very loud.

That's going to depend a ton on the materials, insulation, windows, etc. Reinforced concrete buildings are going to behave differently to wooden structures.

I have slept above the club and found it so relaxing - the thumping muted music. Even now I like when the neighbors have a party and when we can hear stadium concerts. Not sure why, it's not exactly white noise, but I enjoy sleeping in that "music nearby but not right here" situation. I think it just makes my brain relax because it thinks things must be ok if there is a party?

Bars, clubs and other night time entertainment venues need to be highly sound proofed where I live. Even if the venue is built on a somewhat isolated area, it's still required for the building to be insulated to some degree.

I had a restaurant that had a longer hours permit next to my house and because they didn't had stronger insulation, they couldn't exceed a certain decibel level after 22h00.

And even then, every so often, a patrol car would swing by to check if everything was calm, to keep the more rowdy patrons level headed.

No clue, it was just a two story building and my bedroom was above the dance hall.

Regardless of the floor, you will hear everything once you open any window. Plus there's closing time when everyone is loud outside and taxis are idling.

I was in a sixth floor walkup and couldn't hear the bar on the ground floor through the floors. But opening the windows in the summer yeah, depending how loud people were being out front on the sidewalk.
