The idea that Americans think they had an empire speaks to the amount of propaganda to which they have been subjected. America was the leader of the western world from 1945 until, arguably, 2016, but really only led the world unopposed from 1992 tp 2016. 24 years is not an empire. 71 years isn't more than a few geo-political/economic decisions.
The founding fathers chose Roman architectural style for government buildings in order to evoke a feeling of ancient Rome. It is funny to me to see how often contemporary Americans have referred to the US as being like ancient Rome, no doubt for this reason.
Obviously this will upset Americans. I'm not looking to troll at all. I will add that us Brits are no different , in our own ways.
Okay but the world can have more than one empire at a time? This seems like a non sequitur.
But this is a non sequitur because I never said the world could only have one empire at a time. I pointed out the limited extent of the US's period of dominance and nothing else.
Then why isn't he period before the fall of the USSR being counted as American Empire?
Because it was just a few decades between the end of WW2 and the fall of the USSR
Okay, and I understand your broader point, but do you see why that's a non sequitur?
Do you really deny the imperialism and invasions the USA has perpetrated?
