Most porn is much much more wholesome and tame than the pestilence, genocide, fratricide, infanticide, racism, sexism, and slavery that is recommended by that disgusting ignorant book

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It's consenting adults making entertainment for other adults. 🤷

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

pestilence, genocide, fratricide, infanticide, racism, sexism, and slavery

Which one of those categories is "sending out your daughters to be raped by the crowd" in?

Think that would fall pretty solidly under sexism - women are just property according to The Good Book.

Oh my sweet summer child...

[–] DancingBear@midwest.social 0 points 6 days ago

I think you have to go to dark web for Bible porno

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works -5 points 6 days ago (4 children)

Why is Lemmy like this? I really thought we left the edgelord r/atheism shit back in reddit.

[–] Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

What, you came to Lemmy expecting church services?

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works -1 points 6 days ago (3 children)

No I was just hoping "Bible Bad, upvotes to the Left" was something we could outgrow BEFORE we graduate high school.

It's not a matter of respecting beliefs but of looking like an adult.

[–] Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Considering the political and social leanings of the typical Lemmy user, I think you’re going to be repeatedly disappointed looking for people who think the Bible is a good thing. In any modern and halfway decent society, yes, Bible is bad. Recognizing that something is shit isn’t an ability restricted to children.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works -1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I'm not asking people to think the Bible is a good thing, I'm asking people not to talk like they're snorting cheeto dust while they watch Rick & Morty.

[–] Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Ah, so we can think the Bible is bad, we just can't say anything about it because that would be edgy. Gotcha.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works -2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Don't put words in my mouth. You're an adult you know how to behave without making a fool of yourself.

[–] Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

That advice definitely goes two ways.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

All I'm asking is people stop acting so smug and quit villifying out-groups.

[–] Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Vilifying out-groups?! In case you haven’t noticed, “vilifying out-groups” is kinda their whole shtick, as evidenced by how shitty things have been getting lately for actual persecuted minorities anytime Christian nut-jobs get control of governments. Miss me with that shit.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 0 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Yes, but you're equating the entirety of the group with the extremists, that's fucked up.

I'm asking you to be better than extremist fundies, which we've established are scuzzy as hell, this shouldn't be that hard.

[–] nymnympseudonym@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Some of us adults are tired of other adults having imaginary friends and expecting to be treated like adults

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

So just because someone has a religion you don't think they deserve to be treated like a human being? You have revealed your bigotry.

[–] CybranM@feddit.nu 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I was just hoping "Bible ~~Bad, upvotes to the Left"~~ was something we could outgrow BEFORE we graduate high school.

FTFY

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

No you're just proving my point

[–] CybranM@feddit.nu 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

So not wanting children to be indoctrinated is being edgy? Thats an interesting take

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] CybranM@feddit.nu 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Care to elaborate on what you meant in that case?

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 0 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Thing is. I wonder if I can, because I know what game you're playing. It's the game people like you always play. You hunt for anything that can have any unsavory interpretation and pretend that's what I meant.

I've seen enough of that on youtubers and in talking with those predispositioned to reddit atheism to know that's what you're going to do.

So I'm just gonna talk my ball and go home.

There's nothing wrong with having a religion but there's everything wrong with abuse and zealotry.

[–] CybranM@feddit.nu 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I wouldn't say I'm playing "a game" but I do find it amusing when religious people find all kinds of nonsensical reasons for why it's totally necessary in modern society. Which I obviously disagree with.

Your response is fair and one of the more measured ones I've ever read, I commend you for that

I'll take your last paragraph as the explanation. I do think having a religion, if you actually fully buy into it not just pay lip service to it, is bad.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 days ago

Perhaps I misjudged you then. Sorry I'm too used to dealing with bad faith agents in these discussions.

For the record I'm not religious I just have people close to me who are. And it just burns my toast when people like them get lumped in with Ya'll Queda just because someone online thinks they're being hilarious and cute.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 7 points 6 days ago

I don't know what you're complaining about the only people that ever read the Bible are atheists. It's kind of hard not to be by the end of it. The religious type cherry pick their Bible verses and ignore the bits they don't like.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

How is atheism related to being an edgelord? I'm not sure I understand the connection at all.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Atheism is fine. It's when you insist that every instance and utterance of religion is evil and can't help but to bash Christianity every chance you get.

I'm literally not even a Christian, I'm not offended. I just am so tired of these tropes, they were lame on reddit and they're lame here

This is an article about a man who spends his professional life, and position of power within the education system, to force his religion onto the public. This is where you should expect criticisms of his religion.

Criticizing the scriptures of people who are imposing their beliefs on others is being an edge lord?
