The article literally said she doesn’t associate with him or his family. Seems like she’s away from him…

But damn… I can’t imagine what it would be like to be trans and have your dad as the most prominent and powerful Nazi in the world, spearheading a sham federal org called DOGE that is basically eliminating all reference to people like you and firing people like you in the most powerful country in the world.

So many layers to that experience, I imagine.

It will be difficult, but technically possible. You’d have to ensure bitlocker is disabled on your windows drive. If you’re not sure what that is, don’t assume that means it’s not enabled. Windows does enable it by default in some cases. It encrypts your drive and you won’t be able to access it.

But in all honesty, I’d recommend just starting from scratch if steam games are what you’re most worried about. First, some of them might not work on Linux. Second, you may encounter strange issues that require redownloading much of your library anyway. Lastly, you’ll want to transfer them to a drive with a Linux file system which will take time. That’s if you even have the drive space to spare. More likely is you’ll be formatting that drive anyway to a Linux filesystem, wiping the contents anyway.

Even with slow internet, redownloading games as needed will be way easier and likely faster.

If you’re unsure what distro to go with, I recommend going with Bazzite. It’s a distro optimized for gaming and is an atomic distro. If you don’t know what that means, don’t worry about it, just know that for most casual users, an atomic distro makes way more sense and is much less likely to break. Additionally, if you have nvidia hardware, the drivers come pre installed so it’ll work right out of the box.

This seems much more likely lol

Dude, relax, you’re fighting with people that agree with you that Elon is a Nazi piece of shit. If a bunch of people that agree with you, more or less, are downvoting you and saying that your anger on this one is misplaced, maybe it’s time to look inward.

Let people realize they made a mistake, jeez. That’s all this is. People made an uninformed decision, and are now realizing their mistake. You never made a mistake before? Jfc

Damn… I’m going to keep “not a fault, it’s a failure” in my back pocket. I’ve never heard it put that way when discussing a screw up that wasn’t really someone’s fault (in this case Biden, but could be Dems or even situations not politics related)

I feel being critical without blaming unfairly is a huge part of my personality, and so this type of convo actually comes up kinda frequently in my life, since so many people struggle to see gray areas between right and wrong, at fault and not at fault.

But what you said is a perfect way to better ensure that the meaning doesn’t get lost to blaming, after which the conversation is usually a lost cause.

False equivalency. Categorizing all MAGA like the portrayal in this political cartoon is not the same as categorizing a whole type of people as some stereotype.

Stereotypes are not factual. Some may have a basis in reality, many have no basis in reality. In almost all cases stereotypes are degrading, and statistically impossible to apply to all members of a certain group, despite people using verbiage in the stereotypes indicating it is inherent to all members (e.g. “All Asians are bad drivers”)

MAGA as portrayed here is categorically factual. By definition MAGA supports Trump and his policies. His policies are harmful to trans people. Therefore, all MAGA are harmful to trans people strictly because of the policies they support.

Bringing it back to the “all Asians are bad drivers” example, if we modified it to say “all bad drivers are bad drivers”, then that would be more of an equivalent to the categorization of MAGA depicted. Because the categorization is the definition of the group, rather than taking a group and assigning it an attribute totally unrelated to its definition (e.g. race, gender, even political party as not all republicans are on board with maga)

And my level of investment automatically invalidates any point I make right?

You’re acting like their response was ever intended to be a thorough breakdown of your argument and why it’s wrong lol.

All they said was an exaggerated paraphrase of your comment for comedic effect and then wondered how you could get so worked up over this.

Yeah boredom on a slow day at work can't exist.

I totally understand this. Putting way more effort into a comment than I need to because of a slow day at work is exactly what I’m doing rn lol.

But that’s not what’s indicative of you getting worked up. It’s the defensiveness and comments that read as bitterly aggressive.

I'll take my downvotes, but while I agree with the sentiment in this particular comic I have no fucking interest in seeing shitty pizzacake and her no-punchline comics or her army of sycophants here on Lemmy.

I will never understand why some of you insist on bringing the garbage we left Reddit to escape over here to Lemmy. Let pizzacake have her tiny window of microcelebrity on reddit and please spare the rest of us this bullshit.

I’ll raise you one better and do a revision of your original comment.

I’ll take my downvotes… wait no, I probably shouldn’t start a comment off like this because it only shows I’m bitter that people don’t agree with me, let me start again.

While I disagree with the sentiment of @Vespair@lemm.ee’s original comment, I do think that there’s one thing we should be not be bringing over from Reddit. Gatekeeping.

I will never understand why some of you insist on bringing the garbage we left Reddit to escape over here to Lemmy. Let holier-than-thou gatekeeping stay on Reddit. Most if not all of us moved to this platform for its freedom from ads, algorithm manipulations and for more meaningful curation of our online interactions.

We should want this for all people, and that includes the people who post stuff we don’t like. Those people aren’t ruining Lemmy, they’re keeping it diverse, and exercising their right to use a platform that isn’t controlled by a company who is selling their data and manipulating their world view in the interest of those who care about nothing more than consolidating more wealth and power, at the expense of their users. In some cases at the expense of geopolitical stability and people’s actual lives.

I’m pretty sure this person is making a joke using a fake exaggerated “answer” from a corporation to highlight the absurdity of their double speak. I doubt something this insane would come from an actual spokesperson.

Thanks mom, love you 👉🏻👈🏻🥺

I didnt really use social media much before trying out fediverse alternatives.

Mainly just reddit, with occasional Instagram. When considering the switch, Instagram was easy to consider letting go of, Reddit not so much.

But then around the same time I got into photography, and wanted insta as a way to present my portfolio. So then I put off fediverse again, because life was also really chaotic.

After a while, life got less chaotic, and I looked into everything again.

I didn’t end up using insta for photos, and to my friends’ dismay, I hadn’t gotten any better at using it to see their lives either. I don’t find the app addictive, although I can see why it is. I found it annoying. I think the chaos of my life(grad school) meant I never really got sucked into the whole short form content like everyone else.

Reddit was still tough to consider letting go of. But ultimately I found Lemmy and Pixelfed and thought “wth why not”

Fucking hell I love the fediverse. It may be smaller, but it’s growing. But even if it stopped growing, all the platforms feel “lived in” to use words that could describe an open world rpg.

And it’s fun, and it feels safe in a way. There’s a relief knowing that I don’t have some company I have to worry about that curates the world it wants me to see, rather than the world I want to see. I’m finding myself doom scrolling a bit less and focusing more on my hobbyist circles. But uncensored world news is available when I feel like keeping myself up to date with the happenings of the world rn.

It’s amazing, a breath of fresh air and gives me hope in a world where hope is feeling less and less common.

I also have a lot of sway with friends and family, they trust my opinions on things. And so I’m excited to get some converts too. I like sharing my life with friends and family and seeing there’s. I look forward to doing so on free platforms.

I plan on donating money to fediverse contributors as well, because they are doing amazing work.

Okay, done rambling now. I just feel lighter a little, like I can enjoy being on the internet again, even if it’s just one small corner of that internet.
