They're going to get bigger.

[–] jacksilver@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They've got to get bigger or nothing is going to happen.

The George Floyd protests didnt really achieve anything considering the situation the US is in, so yeah they gotta get MUCH bigger.

The number on the George Floyd ones is spread out over a longer timeframe though, so i think this list is useless at comparing protest size.

Next round is on the 19th! I’ll be there again!

Number 2 was in 1970 for Earth Day, so that had to be the boomers protesting, right?

[–] phdepressed@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago

The oldest boomers would be 24, the youngest would be 6. So mostly silent and greatest gens probably.

And look, they fixed climate change!

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 13 points 3 weeks ago

No generation has fixed climate change. No one is making a dent because it isn't the people who are the biggest perpetrators, it's the corporations and billionaires.

Tbf climate change wasn’t really in the public consciousness at that point in time, it was just being discovered and then was hidden by oil companies for a few decades.

I lived through most of these, and I can only recall about 5 of them.

When are we going to do something that will actually appear in a history book?

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

When luigi gets found innocent. If that never happens, i wouldnt be too concerned about the history books bc there wont be many people to read them.

Trump president in 5/6

I'm excited to hear this. I wanted to attend what I thought would be the closest one to me (three hours away) but had a something to attend to. Yesterday I learned there was one only an hour away in my very red county 🙂 pretty excited to bulk those numbers up but a little nervous as a federal employee. But also whatever, I'm doing it.
