In another assault on reproductive rights by the Trump administration, the US Department of Veterans Affairs sent out a memo on Monday announcing that it will no longer provide abortion or abortion counseling.

This change stems from a Department of Justice legal opinion on December 18 that reinstated exclusions on abortions and abortion counseling that the Biden administration had removed in 2022. That Biden-era ruling expanded abortion access for veterans in cases of rape, incest, or threats to life and health, even in states with bans.

“Pregnant Veterans and VA beneficiaries deserve to have access to world-class reproductive care when they need it most,” Denis McDonough, Biden’s Secretary of Veterans Affairs, said in 2022, calling it “a patient safety decision.”

The new directive, obtained by Mother Jones, states that it won’t prohibit care to “pregnant women in life-threatening circumstances, including treatment for ectopic pregnancies or miscarriages.” However, these exceptions often do not work. According to Jessica Valenti, a writer on feminism and politics, exceptions “are deliberately crafted to be impossible to use” and only exist “to make Republicans seem a little less punishing.”

Apparently he'd prefer it if you carried the baby to term and then threw it overboard in Lake Michigan

[–] radioactivefunguy@piefed.ca 7 points 7 hours ago

as long as he gets to be there to watch

Well the Republican way is carrying the baby to term so that it becomes more meat for the machine, we need those disposable workers and consumption machines, not supporting the parents or baby after it’s born is part of the point

Yes, unless you're Trump in 1984 apparently.

A lot of us using VA Healthcare get disability compensation. Do you know how much more the VA pays if you go from 0 children to one on 100%? Less than $100/mo

I was scheduled to be surgically sterilized in two weeks, because I was afraid of exactly this direction after the VA secretary issued a statement saying single women could be refused treatment by VA doctors. The VA canceled my surgery 🙃

Ya know I can't particularly put into words the emotions that I currently feel having read your comment. But I can say what I wish to do, I wish to rend the flesh of profligate filth with mine fucking teeth.

Ffs. I'm so sorry you're going through that crap. :/

The VA canceled my surgery

Report to the ER and complain of 10/10 pain coming from your uterus the next time you menstruate. Then next month do it again. After about 6 months, talk to your OB and explain how it's getting worse, completely stops you from normal daily activities at its peak, and is causing you to become depressed and anxious.

Also bitch about it in other unrelated appointments. Seeing ortho about your back? "My pain today is 10/10, but only in my uterus. My back is the usual 4."

Throughout, there will be assessments where they'll inevitably find nothing - keep complaining. Pain can be paradoxical - eventually they'll decide it needs to come out.

It's stupid and tedious, but if you need to lie to get health care, then lie.

The other reason for the surgery was actually to look for reasons I'm in pain, like adhesions or other evidence of endometriosis. I have nexplanon and haven't had a period in several years, yet still have cyclical intense pain

My ob ordered an mri after we learned the surgery was canceled, maybe that will give us the evidence we need to move forward with surgery again

So they get raped in the line of duty by a fellow soldier and then they're stuck with the baby

[–] Goretantath@lemmy.world 9 points 10 hours ago

Yup, they care more about protecting their own than victims.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 7 points 6 hours ago

They want won't women out of the military anyways. The psychos in charge win regardless. The women who stay in or join will get to be concubines of senior staff. People like Drunk Pete. And those that leave or don't join won't be around to talk about dei and peace.

[–] wuffah@lemmy.world 15 points 7 hours ago

You’ve served our country with your body, now you can serve it a little more by using your body to pump out new soldiers for the meat grinder. Hoo-rah!

[–] MantisToboggon@lemmy.world 8 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

That's rough cause he has been fucking them raw for months.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago

Years. Starting with his first term, he fucked the troops over every chance he got. That they support him so zealously is some absolute peak face-eating-leopard shit.
