It would honestly surprise me if we ever get Half Life 3. I mean what could they revolutionise in the fps genre?
Short answer is that they are working on an in depth environment/physical properties simulation system (confirmed by data leaks). Things like temperatures, flash points, coating in liquids, friction, etc.
It's hard to know exactly how they will all be used, but one can imagine all the interactions between ice, fire, oil, gasoline, wind, and whatever objects you find in the world.
I hope we will see the fruits of that labour, not that I could afford a pc to run the eventual game.
10 years. Just ten years more...and the answer will be "Fun" or "Quality" xD

I love the silly early to middle phase. The late game mechanic always bored me (IIRC haven't launch it in a while).
