Dude got mom's smoking buddy arrested

[–] makyo@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

Yeah grower Steve probably would have been totally sympathetic to the Minecraft plight too, base d on the stoners I know

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 81 points 1 day ago (8 children)

I don't care about people growing weed and making some moneys.

But if you're going to fuck up the electricity net or even stealing it from your neighbors, you're a fuckhead.

Nowadays you can just use LED lights and a heat pump and be extremely stealthy. Maybe even put some solar panels.

yep, do what you want, but don't fuck things up for other people

I'm assuming that comment is about AI data centres?

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

It isn't but feel free to notice the obvious similarities.

[–] webp@mander.xyz 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don't worry, it's just a story.

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Don't worry either, it's not like I think I'm replying to OP.

Is 14

Calls power company

Sure

[–] dreamwave@sh.itjust.works 78 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I got in a fight with Verizon and the FCC over bootloader locking when I was 15, some of us just have nothing better to do than be a complete and utter pedantic menace as kids

I think kids being pedantic menaces are a very important part of society. most of the times it's over good things, but adults don't have the time or drive to address it.

Awww did mum and dad not let you use the phone? 😭

Anyway the correct response is fake+gay. If you analyze it you've already lost.

I mean I tried calling the ISP in my teens. They wouldn't talk to me and left us without internet for months. They would only talk to the bill payer, who was in Afghanistan at the time.

Should've just called the power company and had them assess a new transformer

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 62 points 1 day ago (2 children)

A power company willingly looking at increasing residential capacity or fixing issues that can't be blamed on the homeowner? HA

We had a bad transformer that took 6 months of constant nagging before they would even send a tech out, and they still threatened to charge us for the visit. That guy turned white as a ghost when we told him the issues we were having and that the transformer was the one next to the neighbor's massive nearly dead tree. The internal bars had melted and he said it could have exploded at any point, easily burning at least that neighbor's house down, and probably a good chunk of the neighborhood since it was a dry desert climate.

[–] Washedupcynic@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 day ago

That tracks, corporations would rather their customers die than provide them the service they pay for.

[–] hereiamagain@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My dad ran a business out of our garage when I was a kid. Big machinery. And whenever he'd get into to something tough and bog the machines down, the power in the house would sag so much the lights would brown out and the picture on the tube tv would get real small. This happened all the time, for YEARS. We'd called and complained so many times. Every once in a while they'd send a tech out, he'd plug into the meter socket on our house with a tester, then deem the values appropriate, and leave.

We were like no seriously, when there's a real heavy load it's bad. Nope, it's fine, blah blah.

For YEARS.

Then one day the breaker on the pole blew, and they came out to reset it. And when THIS lady came, we begged her, please, something is wrong, please look closer. So she climbed the pole, low and behold the transformer and wiring was all roasted up there. I forget what the explanation was, but they needed to replace the whole thing.

We never had a problem after that 🤷‍♂️

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Yeah after the previous story, about 6 months later they came to upgrade basically the entire grid section in our area. We had a talk to the engineer and she had been able to use our section as justification for getting some sort of brand new and very expensive testing equipment.

Our neighborhood was built in the early 1960s. So at the time it was about 50 years old, and the electrical usage of homes then was vastly different than it is now. Unlike modern homes with power outlets every 6 feet or so on every wall, we have two outlets per room, if we're lucky. She seemed very happy that we had pushed the issue because apparently that equipment had been requested for years before she finally had a real world justification that management would finally approve.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago

“Nyx is pretty cool. I like the way they turn into a bat. But I don’t see what that has to do with your electrical issues.”

[–] SirEDCaLot@lemmy.today 50 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There a saying-- only do one crime at a time.

This guy was growing weed and doing just fine at it. Only because he decided to steal power also, he got caught.

Eh, doesn't apply anymore. Only way to have any privacy anymore is crime.

Kid's not thinking big enough. Now that they have evidence, they can blackmail the neighbour into buying them a better computer and a UPS

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 31 points 1 day ago (8 children)

As the father of a Minecraft-obsessed kid, this feels intended to fuel my dislike of Minecraft.

So did the movie. And all those obnoxious YouTubers.

Is that it? Is mojang just an elaborate put-on?

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 49 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, but Microsoft bought Mojang out 12 years ago, and Microsoft gonna Microsoft.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Everything Microsoft does is bad. I use arch btw

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

There's a pill for that

[–] django@discuss.tchncs.de 30 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Microsoft stole my minecraft account.

[–] Pechente@feddit.org 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Mine as well. There’s a class action lawsuit, I signed up for it.

The YouTuber that got me into Minecraft was like 40yo when I started (I was already in my 20s back then for what it's worth) and is anything but obnoxious. If you're specifically looking for YouTubers and streamers who aren't annoying, you will definitely find them. Have you seen regular old children's TV? "Obnoxious" is just what children like.

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Obnoxious" is just what children like.

So that explains Mr Beast.

[–] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

Basically, yeah

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago (5 children)

nah dude Minecraft is great. sandbox game that allows creativity and problem solving and whatnot.

now, the microsoft-approved and promoted servers and ad content, fuck all that shit with bedrock. but basic Minecraft is great. just gotta get your kid onto basic java and away from bedrock where they serve you ads and shit

[–] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Get a mod with grappling hooks and hang gliders and tornados and bouncy shoes, awwwhhh yeahhhhh

As many others have pointed out, Microsoft made Minecraft shit. 10 - 15 years ago it was an awesome little game. Loved to play it with my friends on our server. Somebody was always online and you could talk, hang out, explore or do a project together.

Nowadays you open it and it has a shop and some ingame currency and weird collabs with popular IPs. That’s simply not what Minecraft used to be and whenever I watch a modern trailer for it, I wanna throw up.

[–] tiramichu@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago

Java edition, my friend.

I have been playing Minecraft with a small group of friends on a self-hosted private server on and off for the past 15 years. No ads, no coin shop, no annoyance.

As for the screaming YouTubers, obviously they exist, but there are also some nice chill peeps out there. EthosLab or Bdoubleo100 for example - especially their single player worlds where it's just them working on projects and building.

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

You do know Java edition has no shop or anything?

minecraft can be very nice and wholesome, it's just that nice and wholesome doesn't sell (or rather big companies don't think it sells in this case). hermitcraft is an example of nice and wholesome minecraft, just a bunch of people playing on one minecraft server for a year or more (and then they start a new world, restarting the series in a new season) and making videos about every week. the members are usually pretty creative and kindhearted, and I can't really complain about them at all except maybe iskall, who had allegations pop up about him sexting women while married, who reacted to the allegations super unhelpfully and who left or got kicked off the server very quickly. major decisions like that are done by the server members voting on decisions instead of just one person being a bit dictatorish.

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The movie isn't very representative of Minecraft and was probably designed for teenagers who love "brainrot"

Some non-obnoxious YouTubers are the Hermitcraft crowd, notably Grian

Meh, minecraft is not so bad. Its pretty much legos. Did it change much? I played it in beta and never since.

that's the problem with kids in context of power and the state, it's very easy to bribe them and they don't have a bit of loyalty.

Why do people always say “be me” on these things?

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 15 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Green text usually follows "be me" with some indication of gender and age. Eg Be me 51m.

It's from 4chan. The format is an early form of brainrot.
