Tylenol and Autism joke

Took me a second

[–] 69420@lemmy.world 86 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I never would have got there.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 72 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I thought it was a blow job joke and that they wouldn't have been born.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 27 points 2 days ago

I took it as a sex joke too, but actually meaning if the mother hadn't skipped out on the previous sex the person wouldn't have been conceived because there was already someone else.

[–] avg@lemmy.zip 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

That's probably because your mom didn't suck up that last headache.

[–] Dadifer@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago (2 children)

If her mom hadn't taken Tylenol, she wouldn't be bothered by the sound of tags rubbing in her shirt

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sound is probably incorrect. Volume in this case relates to the "volume" of the feeling of the tags. Describing how the feeling of tags is overwhelming compared to its actual impact.

[–] nagaram@startrek.website 4 points 1 day ago

Nah that's wrong

Shirt tags are loud as shit and it sounds painful at the base of my skull.

Sound is the correct sense.

[–] reptar@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I was never going to get there

Now will my autistic teenager...

[–] ulterno@programming.dev 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I am unaware of the effects of Tylenol.
What does it do about shirt tags? How does someone else "sucking up" (what does that mean?) a headache have to do with another's shirt tags and sensory issues?

[–] exasperation@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 47 minutes ago (1 children)

This is a joke about Tylenol during pregnancy causing autism, a ridiculous claim made by Trump's Secretary of Health and Human Services.

[–] ulterno@programming.dev 0 points 44 minutes ago

oic, so the "last headache" meant the headache during pregnancy.
I was thinking of something more recent.

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Their mom probably also is weirdly particular about certain textures “for no reason at all” 👀

[–] krooklochurm@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I can't stand tags.

I love certain textures. Anything soft. Some book covers.

I need to wear my socks inside out because the seams drive me insane.

I hate bright lights.

Uh oh

[–] mika_mika@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Congratulations you have Sense Perception if you haven't received a formal diagnosis you're probably just normal.

[–] krooklochurm@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

I've got add.

I'm not self diagnosing myself with anything though btw. Just having a laugh.

Actually, I AM diagnosing myself. With krooklochurm disorder. It causes excessive gas and the ability to communicate effortlessly with any real unicorns.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Wait, being irritated by tags in shirt is an autism thing? I just thought it was a pretty common kid thing...

I don't think anyone likes them, but maybe autistic people are more likely to absolutely detest them. I know my partner certainly does; she cuts them out of every shirt she wears... Including some of mine, unfortunately.

[–] Shelena@feddit.nl 5 points 1 day ago

I do not think that if you are irritated by tags it necessarily means that you are autistic. I get irritated by tags and I have been tested for autism and I am not autistic. I am not completely neurotypical in other ways though.

[–] mika_mika@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Big doubt this person is on the severe end of the autism spectrum disorder and they are a just a social media user seeking engagement.

No one likes obnoxious tags.

[–] Potatar@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I don't like the tags (end of discussion). = No symptoms here

I don't like the tags and I LITERALLY cannot wear anything man made unless the tags are cut = Symptom right here.

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I still get irritated by tags in my shirt if they are by my neck

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, but as adults we start to just declare we are going to suck it up more.

Yeah, fuck that. I tear out tags, or cut them off. Some t-shirts actually come tag-less or put the tag at the bottom.

The older I get (I'm 54) I find the less tolerance I have for bullshit.

[–] Dorkyd68@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Fuck tags. I absolutely despise them. I rip those pitches off everything. Blanket? Rip that hoe off. Shirt? Fuck you i rather have a hole in my shirt than a tag. Pillow? Hell no. Fuck tags man

[–] buttnugget@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Tags are the worst. I’m so happy for the trend of silk screening them onto the fabric directly.

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 2 points 12 hours ago

It's the polyester, imo. A lot of natural fibers get fuzzier as they wear, but the plastic fiber tags will polish to a sharp edge.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

It's probably not relevant, but on the subject of fabrics: have you guys ever noticed how velvet and its ilk make it literally impossible to breathe?

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Wow, this is something I've noticed for my whole life but never talked about or anything, just assumed it was some odd quirk of mine. But yes, I have a specific recollection of touching some kind of paper that had like a velour side to it, and just catching my breath for some reason, and it's happened a handful of times in the last 30+ years since then.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

I noticed it when I was a kid in Walmart. Just part of being super normal, I've learned. Velvet makes you unable to breathe. What of it!?

[–] vithigar@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I feel the need to ask about the choice of "loud" as the adjective here. Are the tags actually making audible noise, or is this just a non-standard usage of it an a synonym for "overwhelming"?

[–] exasperation@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 48 minutes ago

I wouldn't say it's all that "nonstandard." The word "loud" is often used to mean distracting or attention-grabbing in a visual context, so extending it to other senses doesn't seem like that far of a leap.
