Oyster: Filters all the gross gunk from the ocean

Humans: I'm going to eat this oyster without cooking it, yes it is gross that's why there's hot sauce.

At the end of the day, both are full of microplastics.

[–] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 5 points 21 hours ago

Same taste as oysters.

[–] mech@feddit.org 17 points 23 hours ago

[–] jivandabeast@lemmy.browntown.dev 5 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Fuck the hot sauce, all you need is some cocktail sauce (with horseradish, not that tame ketchup shit) and it's good to go

[–] naeap@sopuli.xyz 2 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Doesn't it usually go with vodka?

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Vodka and oysters?

Boogers seasoned with hospital smell? That's how I imagine it being, at least.

Edit gibe me dark rum and beef tartar instead

[–] jivandabeast@lemmy.browntown.dev 2 points 11 hours ago

I have never heard of this, but I just looked it up and I guess i know what I'll be trying next time we're in oyster season

I will report back when it is done

If I swallow a live oyster, can I drink dirty water safely?

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Do you have some special internal path for the oysters own waste product that doesn't interact or otherwise affect your other internal organs?

[–] CameronDev@programming.dev 11 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Where does the oyster poo go in the ocean?

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 6 points 23 hours ago

Hopefully not inside the human body.

[–] oneser@lemmy.zip 14 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Turns out eating oysters straight off the rocks is not recommended. Like super duper not recommended.

I found this out after I managed to open one on the rocks and ate it :)

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 11 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

So what was the outcome? Did you get all the diseases?

[–] ErmahgherdDavid@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 20 hours ago

How is the hospital food?

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I see you, circa 2010 BP!

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

Did the front fall off?

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 34 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

This is a scam, ordered some and they don't tell you that it only works with salt water but I have dirty fresh water! Now stuck buying salt every day.

[–] Droechai@piefed.blahaj.zone 17 points 21 hours ago

I got the same issue, but I solved it by building a desalination system at home. After the water is cleansed by the oyster, the water gets extracted leaving the salt behind which can be added to a new batch of fresh water. Saves me a few salt trips to the store.

The elctricity bill is a tad bit higher, but I plan to add wave generators to the oyster aquarium so I can extract power from there just by lowering and raising an inflated ball through the water line. Should also help disturbing any deposits in the tank

It'd be something if instead of flushing the toilet, an oyster could filter all that

[–] themaninblack@lemmy.world 57 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is that what the three seashells are?

[–] wuffah@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh my god, after 30 years, this is it.

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 4 points 23 hours ago

Three genetically enhanced oysters in their shells…

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 17 points 19 hours ago

sounds like a scam! i bet if the water is too dirty the oyster is going to close and shut off the city's water supply

(it was clams but i cannot tell the difference between the two so)

Just pay separate shipping and handling!

There's always a catch 🎣.

[–] sausager@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago

I only have 226 L of water, can I borrow 1 pls?

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 3 points 22 hours ago

They can be poisoned just the same as any other sea-creature, right? If the water is full of certain elements it will kill the oysters too, right?

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 1 points 23 hours ago
[–] sramder@lemmy.world 0 points 21 hours ago

Yeah… but it all goes in and out through one general purpose orifice 🤢
