R/conservative is really funny right now. They're clawing their own eyes out over literal NYC just because it's Daddy's favorite place

[–] shittydwarf@sh.itjust.works 93 points 18 hours ago

NYC hates trump, which makes it funnier

[–] dreamkeeper@literature.cafe 47 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (7 children)

Psyched for Mamdani and NYC but it's hard to believe how many people voted for a sexual harassmer who is also openly corrupt

[–] coldengineering1234@lemmy.world 32 points 10 hours ago

Well we do have a child diddler for a president.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 24 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

Is it "hard to believe" when the Americans voted twice to elect a full on rapist for President?... with the added qualifications of convicted felon, fraudster and 99.99% likely a pedophile?

I think it's time to accept Americans could not care less about sexual assault, women or kids rights.

Yes, that is a generalization with a nasty connotation but that is what Americans have shown to be

It's quite fascinating that, on the one hand they think everything he tries will fail and he won't achieve any of the things he promised, and at the same time they also think his policies will destroy New York City and all the business will leave.

They can stay in the Mississippian trailer park. Leave the rest of the country alone.

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 30 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Reverse secession - can we force them to secede? I'm really tired of all progress in this fucking country being attacked by idiots.

Republicans are scared shitless that people will get another taste of socialism like they did with the wildly popular FDR..

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 41 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

The race was rigged! The people of Kentucky will not let this stand!

My bet is they kill him. (I don’t like it I’m just saying)

[–] Hazor@lemmy.world 14 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (2 children)

And then they blame it on "left wing political violence" and then the shooter's family will be like "look at all these pictures of him wearing maga hats" and then the media will be like "but he had a high school class with someone who's cousin was bisexual so he's obviously a left wing lunatic".

I hope what we take most from this is that 2026, 2028 is NOT "too early" or "too high stakes" for an ACTUAL progressive campaign. The DNC has used that argument 3x with Trump and lost said elections twice (only winning 2020 because Trump bombed w/ Covid-19). I'm certain we'll hear it again in the next two national elections.

Having a competent populist leftist politician is not a detraction. Quite the opposite. NO to Gruesome Newsom

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 14 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

If AoC wins the primary I'll vote for her.

If Newsom wins the primary I'll vote for him.

I'll be donating to AoC's campaign though.

Unfortunately, it's not just old or white people. Just look at the young GOP Nazi club or all the latinos that voted for Trump

Watch the 20 v 1 where Mehdi from Zeteo takes on a bunch of MAGA folk. They’re all 20-30 years old and it’s fucking crazy how many of them are blatantly racist and/or fascist. I’ll have to come back with the video link for you guys.

Edit: here you go https://youtu.be/2S-WJN3L5eo

Jubilee - Surrounded is a completely twisted version of reality where they have been called out for deliberately finding and paying people to take the most extreme positions to represent the worst of humanity.

I'm not saying that there aren't open fascists out there, many of them are now running our country in fact, but we all HAVE to start shutting the door on this kind of pandering rage-porn that makes us all hate each other for clicks. It's making it all worse. Jubilee is not how people talk, it's not how we reach each other and make change.

“What are we going to do when an actual liberal does the job we were supposed to be doing?!”

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 25 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Sadly, they aren't all old. The alt-right recruitment drive that's been running for the last decade or so has borne a lot of fruit.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 16 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

Yup.

Starting to think GenZ/Alpha aren't going to save us. Not the men anyway. They're buying into that dogshit hook, line, and sinker.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Having lived through 2008 and 'Hope and Change', I don't expect much out of Mamdani. I'd love to be wrong about that.

Here's hoping a democratic socialist turns out to be more progressive than your standard "not actually liberal" democrat.

[–] pilferjinx@piefed.social 24 points 12 hours ago

I'm hoping a democratic socialist outperforms a corporate Democrat. He's going to face a lot of push back so it's going to be a struggle.

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 22 points 12 hours ago

I think it won't be for lack of trying. He will be stymied at every turn by the city council, oligarchs, feds, etc.

[–] hanrahan@piefed.social 13 points 15 hours ago

I don't think he can bring hope and change, overcoming the status quo is decades of work at muitiple levels of government supported continuously by voters.

Cumo could make it worse though.

"NEW YORK WILL BE DESTROYED JUST LIKE PORTLAND!!!!!!!!!!"

Logs into all the public webcams in Portland and sees that everything is fine and, oh my, what a beautiful city.

Buys a plane ticket to Portland just in case the webcams were fake news. Oh yes, oh my, what a beautiful city.

What are the young racists doing right now?

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 10 points 6 hours ago

Putting on blackface for Instagram instead of going out for Halloween

[–] Justas@sh.itjust.works 13 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Every 60 seconds in New York, a minute passes.

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic Socialist candidate for mayor of New York City, won his race with more than 50% of the vote, even though every prominent right-wing personality including Trump and Musk endorsed his challenger, and millionaires and billionaires throughout the city and the country dumped truckloads of money on Cuomo's head.

[–] Mrkawfee@lemmy.world 26 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Don't forget he's the first Muslim mayor of New York, a city with more Jews than anywhere outside Tel Aviv!

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 14 points 11 hours ago

Oh yeah. There's tons of stuff about him that's novel and impressive and will make MAGAs big mad.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 14 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

The old guard Dem national leadership also refused to support Mamdani when he won the primary over Cuomo the sex pest. Fucking Schumer refused to endorse Mamdani.

[–] SailorFuzz@lemmy.world 13 points 10 hours ago

Schumer (like so many DNC fossils) is bought by AIPAC. Isreal doesnt want US politicians that are critical of them.

But, perhaps simpler than that, I think Schumer would hate on Mamdani for free. I think Schumer is (even without money) a staunch Zionist, Islamophobe. Hes definitely anti-progressive and a firm corpo capitalist democrat. All his talk about strength and diversity is just lip service.

[–] 1985MustangCobra@lemmy.ca 10 points 12 hours ago

Yessss. Zohran congrats
