Summary

A fire at a Tesla dealership in Rome’s Torre Angela district early Monday destroyed 17 cars and damaged the building. No injuries were reported, but investigators are exploring multiple causes, including arson.

The incident follows recent Tesla vandalism in Rome amid rising backlash against Elon Musk’s leadership and cost-cutting at DOGE.

Tesla has faced arson, protests, and boycott calls across the US and Europe.

The company’s stock fell 5% Monday, down 34% this year, with sales dropping sharply in both the US and Europe.

The incident comes as CEO Elon Musk's aggressive cost-cutting efforts at DOGE have sparked a backlash against his EV maker.

No, the incident comes as Musk reveals he's a fucking Nazi. Quit the bullshit. Elon Musk is a Nazi. The DOGE stuff is icing on the Nazi cake.

[–] Eril@feddit.org 64 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Agree. That is such an america centric view. Why would italians give enough fucks about DOGE to burn a Tesla store about it. Being a Nazi is what is our primary issue with Musk here in Europe.

you mean they're not burning teslas to protest the loss of our social welfare programs 🥺?

My great grandfather was a hero. He along with others discovered the cure for fascism, and he helped so many poor souls afflicted by this terrible disease.

However, I don’t believe he foresaw the possibility that it could become a family tradition. I certainly hope not, but things are going to get so much worse.

There’s that darn 4th branch again, trying to manufacture the thoughts we think.

10 years from now, I hope we all remember how EVERY SINGLE mainstream news outlet refused to call what Musk did a Nazi salute. I hope that we can all see that they work solely for the billionaire class. And I hope that we can still see all that, even when they’re “on our side”.

Fuck America.

Damn teslas are really explody

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 40 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

A charged Li-Ion battery aflame is no joke, as we saw when it was the Galaxy Note 7. It's a major concern for EVs catching fire in tunnels, parking garages, and ferries. They are SUPER HARD to extinguish- legacy techniques don't really work.

Another example: In August of 2012, an explosion and fire occurred in one of the lithium-polymer batteries on the Foss hybrid tug CAMPBELL FOSS. - the reinstallation report

Here's the report of the event itself: https://professionalmariner.com/battery-related-fire-damages-famed-hybrid-tug-puts-it-out-of-service/

Bro new fear unlocked. Burning TSLA on a ferry. Fuck me.

I vaguely recall a story from a year or two about one of those giant ocean-crossing car carriers that had an EV on board catch fire. Something like 500 of the 4000 cars on board were EV’s. I think they ultimately saved about 1000 of those cars after the fire was put out.

Edit: easy find…

And non of the EV were involved in the fire.

The fire’s origin was eventually traced to the eighth deck of the 12-deck ship, far from the electric vehicle storage areas.

Thank god, ol' smarty Musky built a tunnel with no safety features for all those Teslas.

Thank god, ol' smarty Musky built a tunnel with no safety features for all those Teslas.

You. Could. Not. Pay me...To get into that stupid friggin' tunnel. How on earth did that thing actually get built?!

The flooding potential is bad enough, but otherwise, it's not a matter of "if" people are gonna die horribly of fire or toxic inhalation in a confined concrete space with no escape, it's absolutely "when."

During/after the recent LA fires, they spraypainted “NOT EV” on all of the ICE vehicles

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 113 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

And this is why most corporations get rid of their CEOs if they become toxic to the brand. But Musk has placed people who are loyal to him on the board. That's how he stole the company from its original founders and this is how he'll be allowed to run the company into the ground as if he owned it.

[–] TronBronson@lemmy.world 43 points 2 days ago

Just like trump in the white house, we should experience similar trajectories. Maniac in charge sorrounded by yes men.

[–] vxx@lemmy.world 73 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Some of them are in protest, some are insurance fraud because teslas don't sell. Some just burn by themselves.

[–] afronaut@slrpnk.net 15 points 2 days ago

An economic, political, and safety liability all around.

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Some malicious compliance if you want to get rid of your Tesla, and don't think anyone else should support them... Just set it on fire and blame vigilantes (I don't endorse this).

The entirety of Rome was with me that night so they couldn't have done it.

[–] karashta@lemm.ee 39 points 2 days ago

Good. Fuck Musk and fuck any of his companies and cronies.

Sic semper tyrannus

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 28 points 2 days ago (2 children)

...but investigators are exploring multiple causes, including arson.

I think it's quite telling that they're likely considering the strong possibility that these wonderous marvels of cost-cutting may have just spontaneously lit themselves ablaze without help, at rest, in a parking lot.

For a majority of other vehicles, that'd be an absurd conclusion. But Teslas contain a baffling amount of greed-motivated engineering and numerous fire incidents. It isn't talked about enough and I see more of these things by the day. There has to be some kind of "reputation management" going on.

Either way,

remember kids! If you see someone setting an unoccupied swastikar ablaze...No you didn't.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I bet all these fires are of the result of Elon Musk remotely catching them on fire. Which means two things. One he is losing money and needs a insurance payout. Two he is planting these as false flags in order to further trump agenda. They already want to label anyone who even vandalizes a tesla as a terrorist. Musk is doing this and its fucking terrifying how trump reacting.

There's a plausible case where either a very stupid OTA software update or a faulty charger could in fact cause a bunch of them to catch fire at once.

[–] rustyfish@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago

❤️🤌🏼🇮🇹

[–] huppakee@lemm.ee 22 points 2 days ago

Wow, there might be more Tesla's put of fire than there are Russians that fell out of a window now.
