Your second was abstractly talking about the fix here but not saying what it actually is.
Fair enough lol.
Tbf, this place is still missing a bunch of communities that Reddit has
Gee, what a perfect opportunity we’ve stumbled across
We need more users. For sports for example, I doubt you’d even have even users for individual teams. A general sports community might be feasible though.
Problem is critical mass for communities that simply won't happen because of the overall demographics of Lemmy's userbase - it would make little sense to have a community centered around, say, Facebook or Google products because the common Lemmy user is inclined to dislike either of them.
Weird thing to post in a shitpost community, though. I'm pretty sure there are dedicated communities for stuff like this.
A good fit: !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com
Nice thanks for the pointer.
I was unsure and checked the rules there.
You should make a Roku community on Lemmy if there isn't one already and post the fix there. Yeah, maybe nobody will see it, but maybe they will. Especially if they saw the content on Reddit and can't find it anymore, they might look here. And that's the only way we're gonna get that shit off of Reddit.
Just like showerthoughts, lemmings have no respect for community themes.
Such a self-own to post serious stuff in a shitpost community, though ...
Yepowertrippingbastards I think
Just stop using reddit. Quit it.
Too easy to say, too many communities that are simply not here.
start them then.
Sometimes people just wanna make a post and help people with a niche problem, not sign up to run a whole ass sub tho.
So you come to a completely different and unrelated website (and community) to complain about it while using AI to write your post? I don't mean to be rude, but this is a bit unpleasant.
If you're leaving Reddit in favour of Lemmy then you're welcomed. But keep in mind, we are not Reddit and don't want anything to do with it. Also, keep your instance's rules and those that may apply to the community to which you are posting. If you don't like your current instance you can migrate to a new one or make your own.
Welcome to Lemmy
I still fuck with reddit some but I do it read-only. I have a couple accounts because it's the best place to get information on certain video games and niche hobbies.
But I do refuse to participate, I only lurk. Fuck that corporation, I contribute nothing and take only data center time.
edit: I guess I contribute user count
I used to love Reddit and it was my only social media site for a decade. But it became so Kafka-esque that it was causing me a tremendous amount of stress. Constantly fighting mod bans was akin to tilting at windmills, as it was completely pointless. So I quit cold turkey last year, deleting my account, and found Lemmy a few days later. I still find the content on Reddit incredibly helpful when I'm searching for information and posts come up on Google but I cannot interact with the site/app any longer. The constant deletions and bans are contrary to the original spirit of the site and have reached SNL sketch level.
Post the exact comment that got you banned. I'm sure many on Lemmy would find it fun to repost it to the Roku forum over and over. We don't care about Reddit bans.
Here it is:
If you’ve been trying to watch real over-the-air channels and Roku keeps forcing you into their “Live TV” streaming hub (even with Hide Streaming Channels turned on), here’s what finally worked for me:
👉 Step 1: After scanning for channels, go to Manage Channels and add one of your antenna channels to Favorites (for me, it was Channel 5). 👉 Step 2: Back on the Roku home screen, hover over the Live TV tile for 2–3 seconds before pressing OK.
If you wait, Roku automatically loads your first favorite channel — you’ll go straight into antenna TV instead of the streaming hub.
If you click too fast, it jumps right back into the ad-stuffed streaming Live TV interface.
It’s a weird UX quirk, but this workaround actually works every time once you’ve got a favorite set. Hopefully Roku separates those inputs properly someday, but until then… this saved my sanity. 😂
Sounds like you got banned for showing people how to get away from ads. That's not allowed by our corporate overlords.
Yeah Roku is definitely working on how to fix this. You were never supposed to bypass the ad filled content.
Update: No regrets — the fix still works and my sanity remains unbanned. 😂
I have my doubts about your sanity - everybody knows that only crazy people use reddit! ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°)
Can you post the Roku fix in this thread? That would help people and undo the censorship Reddit did to the Roku users.
I was perma-banned from r/gaming because of piracy. I posted a link to an unofficial port of a decompiled, abandonware game.
i was perma-banned from reddit for saying israel commited a nakba in the past and every time i try to make a new account it get's shadowbanned or just banned
I had setup some Lemmy accounts a while back but was procrastinating on settling into them. Received a 2-week ban for a Rule 1 violation because suggesting that users own their hardware is apparently violent. Took the opportunity to finally finish setting up in the Fediverse and haven't opened Reddit since.
stop using ubercorp social media
Welcome to the fediverse! We've got Star Trek, Linux, and seasonal beans.
I was perma banned by admins for hurting a mods feelings. Reddit is so scared of having to pay mods they let them do whatever they want. There is no point in trying to rationalize it. As long as mods go unpaid, they will be allowed to have absolute power in the communities they control.
I gave it one more shot after being away for a year. Posting my latest 3D Printer mod (after on Lemmy and the manufacturers forum). Immediately got a snarky garbage commenter. That's what I get.
Stop using ChatGPT to write your posts. If your Roku fix was formatted like this one, I'd pull it off my community too
8k views means 7k ai scrapers downloading the same resource over and over
This is why I don't use reddit anymore.
I think reddit has lost most of its human users so it's just NPC's and bots.
Is this !fuck_ai@lemmy.world ?
Nope. If it were, my name would have mod status here. Which it doesn't. Also......fuck AI!
Welcome to federated social media my dude. You're better off without that shithole.
I've been auto shadowbanned from a technical community, more than once. No idea why. It'd be nice to have a conversation with a mod like that, at least.
It seems others have too. Whenever I go back to check, it's like all the brainpower has been sucked from the sub.
Sometimes I see an 'issue' or 'help' post I have an impulse to post exactly what they need, before I realize I can't... and no one else posts anything helpful.
...Yet sometimes weird, obvious bots reply.
I don't know what the heck is going on with Reddit, but its amazing its lasted this long.
... So what's the fix?
