Just remembered a true Web 1.0 time capsule Stinkymeat.net. Mahlon Smith’s legendary “research” into what happens when you leave meat outside and document the decay.

I can’t believe the site is still up in 2025. Gross, hilarious and pure early-internet charm.

Makes me wonder… could someone repeat the “experiment” today with the same cuts of meat, same daily photos and compare the data? For science, of course.

I remember he also had a "stinky feet" series of experiments until he has on the verge of developing cellulitis or something....

Now I feel old.

My girlfriend and I followed the stinkymeat and stinkyfeet projects eagerly anticipating each update. The feet one was especially horrifying. I'm surprised he didn't end up in the hospital.

I also feel old

Sausage: $1.50

Now, I don't actually know meat prices anymore, but I think this dates it more than the style of web page.

It had me rolling a bit. This is the kind of wonderful madness I think of when I think of the wild west days of the internet. Although I'm sure there was a lot of crap too.

Be the change you want to see etc. etc. stinkymeat.ly is currently available and has a distinct 2020s ring to it.
