Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media. Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org

Those unfortunate accidents can easily be resolved:

just make the Mexicans wear something that makes them easily recognisable. Something like, I don't know, maybe a small patch in the shape of a sombrero, oh and and make it yellow so it stands out.. hm, that idea kinda feels familiar.... /s

Two tortilla chips on top of each other should do the trick. Also the Irish are traditionally the first white people to be thrown under the bus by supremacists so might as well give them an own symbol too.

Nah, It’s taking too long. Can’t we just skip to the β€œFinal Solution to the Mexican Question” already.

[–] Ileftreddit@lemmy.world 55 points 12 hours ago (5 children)

If we don’t have a Nuremberg type trial in this country by 2028 there will be no future for anyone here worth living

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Not gonna happen just like Obama refused to do anything about Bush era torturers covering for them. Barring a revolution Trump era officials will got off fine at worst having a single symbolic person given a slap on the wrist.

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago

You think there is going to be a country to go back to after Trump? Quit fooling yourself. He's torn down all the progress you've made as a country in the last 75 years. It would take decades and decades to get back to where you were, and you'll be left behind by the rest of us. Welcome to the divided states on America

Yeah, the problem has always been that Democrats want to 'look forward, not back' and just don't punish Republicans whenever they do this shit.

Happened after Nixon, Reagan, Bush Jr and Trump I. And then you see the exact same characters crawling out of the woodwork and trying again. Roger Stone is always there and hasn't spent significant time in prison.

Trump tried an actual coup and the only people that went to prison for it were a bunch of yokels who probably didn't even know they were participating in one.

I keep saying, remove qualified immunity and make the individual agents face consequences for following illegal orders

11 were hanged. It was a symbolic guesture. You are already free to believe that fascism is over and that they don't have any influence right now. You don't need a trial, just close your eyes.

[–] Ileftreddit@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

But at this point even a symbolic gesture would be almost more than hope could bear

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

We also bombed and shot a lot of them too don't forget.

It's not gonna happen unless the populist left takes power, and only if they decide to not compromise this time, like they did during the time of the New Deal. And I don't see that happening in time for 2028. But who knows, maybe I'm underestimating DJT's ability to drive unemployment to the 20-30% range.

It doesn't make it better if Mexicans are detained for looking Mexican.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 8 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (1 children)

Why doesn't everyone just stop looking so goddamm Mexican?! And tuck your shirt in! If this bloke were innocent do you really think he'd look so Mexican?

Look at Ted Cruz (but not for too long please) . Homeboy is Latino but he's not all Mexican looking. He even goes to Mexico when things get tough at home in the North America and it doesn't even rub off on him. Bro tucks in his shirt.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 8 hours ago

And tuck your shirt in!

Where I live an easy way to tell the Mexicans from the less-Mexicans is that the Mexicans tuck their shirts in and have a sweet belt lol.

[–] bier@feddit.nl 6 points 8 hours ago

In ICE's defense the Irish guy also spoke with a funny accent

[–] RandAlThor@lemmy.ca 24 points 8 hours ago

US is a fascist state. Their supreme court codified it last week. Fascist State. Period.

[–] Zer0_F0x@lemmy.world 23 points 13 hours ago

...then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 19 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Oh look, they are doing everything they denied they would.

Edit: Wow, they literally murdered someone in custody with him

[–] tatann@lemmy.world 14 points 8 hours ago

If it weren't for their stupid fucking gun laws, I would absolutely be advocating for a hemisphere wide Schengen. Beyond containing American gun stupidity, there is zero reason to have hard borders in the Americas.

Yes! I never needed a passport to visit Canada in the '80s and '90s. Haven't been back since that changed. Also lived in Texas and crossed the Rio Grande back and forth with no issues in the early '90s too. The border wall insanity and militarization of all this is insane!

There's a lot of stupidity being contained by those borders. The gun stuff is only part of it.

[–] OrteilGenou@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

That might be because there's a huge Irish diaspora in Mexico

Or it might be because these D average high school late graduates can only see things through one lens

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

Lebanese too, although that's not going to do them any favors with ice.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

I really fucking hate this administration. Not a day goes by that I do not wish for this all to just end. It’s just depressing. If this is what America has become I’m not sure I want to be here any more, not that I have anywhere to go.
