More critically, Joe Biden and his DOJ were fine enough with it not to bother pursuing the fascist hate-mongers flinging smears. Democrats had the power to do something and choose to do nothing.

We still have a multitude of Democrats in gubernatorial office and large paramilitary police forces which could be deployed to crack down on fascist media, financiers, and militant agitators. A few of them have been quite outspoken in their commitment to defending marginalized people from the national fascist movement (Pritsker in Illinois, Evers in Wisconsin, and Walz in Minnesota).
But if you want the DARVO to stop, there's got to be some kind of price for it. National media isn't stepping up. If anything, they're more than happy to play along and feed on it. Too many Dems (Gavin Newsom and Chuck Schumer most vulgarly) seem ready to roll over and let Republicans kick them. Gotta push back and start feeding them their own knuckle sandwiches or all you get is bolder bullies.

Hot fucking take here. Charlie Kirk was an insufferable asshole, but I don't support murder and there is no justification for him being assassinated. People are free to disagree, but I believe ignoring the rule of law when it's convenient is never anything but a slippery slope. Especially right now.
The fact that Kirk is being turned into a martyr by the right is probably the least surprising thing to happen since that birthday book confirmed what we all already knew about Trump. So of course they want to honor their martyr for free speech by threatening to punish anyone who disagrees with the narrative they're trying to create.
That's to be expected when you believe in a natural hierarchy and order that allows you, and only you make the rules and decide how they're applied. Some people count and some people don't. But that's not how the rule of law works, and again nobody likes a slippery slope.
