Apologies if this is a repeat post. I’m not as avid of a Lemmy user as most, probably.

Someone not long ago asked what makes people unreasonably unhappy or angry. I wanted to flip that over and see what people are looking forward to?

No really topic here, just sharing, uplifting and learning. Maybe a post like this could help spark an interest in something for someone else.

Me? Other than watching my family grow and me growing along with them, I would have to say I’m excited about learning.

More specifically, recent life has made it relevant for me to learn about solar off-grid systems. Though I know I have a lot of learning to do, I look forward to putting the knowledge to practice sometime in the near future.

How about you?

Linux, Fediverse, Meshtastic, WebSDR, Public Libraries and more open, non-commercial and decentralized stuff like that

You're literally me. I love open source, decentralization and public knowledge so I totally love what you said.

[–] reluctant_squidd@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago

These things are favourites of mine as well, though I find my family life conflicts a lot with my projects. Not in a bad way, just that there is only so much time in a day.

I really look forward to the selfh.st newsletter each week.

I'm seeing my best friends this weekend, I'm pretty stoked about that. We're gonna play board games and watch movies and chat. I don't get to see them very often, it's honestly been months and I've been spiralling into a really bad depression, but I'm really excited.

[–] reluctant_squidd@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

Depression is no joke. A psychiatrist once told me that everyone has bad days, but if you have more than 1 a week on average, you should see somebody.

I’m glad your friends are coming. It sounds like an awesome time.

[–] MyBrainHurts@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sounds like a pretty great weekend you've got lined up! Do you know what kind of movies and which boardgames?

[–] JayJLeas@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm not sure about movies, we'll probably try out this new movie selector app that one of them found that syncs your selections to choose something you both want to see.
For board games I was thinking Betrayal at House on the Hill and maybe Sheriff of Nottingham, Clacks, and whatever they bring. Maybe some card games, too. Oh, maybe Cards Against Humanity too, since I don't get to play it much.
I'm gonna make cookies for snacks and bulgogi for lunch, it's gonna be great.

[–] MyBrainHurts@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh that app sounds incredibly useful, would love to hear how that works out!

But seems like a great times!

[–] JayJLeas@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

We tried the app (called Queue), it pairs pretty easily with your friend but you have to make an account to use it. The app asks for the streaming platforms you have but still suggests movies that aren't on the services, so I guess in that regard it was a bit of a dud. 3/10, good idea, clean layout, needs a lot of work.

Been ~~a year~~ two years since I last released music. I’m now close to releasing my latest industrial prog metal EP consisting of 5 songs.

[–] reluctant_squidd@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Way to go! I tried writing my own music a few times and lost it half way through. It is much harder to do than I originally thought.

I read a few stories of artists way back in the day that made legendary songs in like a day or less and somehow thought that meant I could too.

Getting to an actual album is quite an accomplishment to achieve and I hope it does as well as you hope it does!

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago

Thank you for the kind words! Yeah it really is hard work, especially since I do everything myself. In fact, the post-production work actually takes a lot more time than the actual writing and recording. I’ll definitely post it here on lemmy when it’s out sometime next month.

Tonight is the night we drop off our donations for the week at the mutual aid society free store. We usually walk away with some baked goods for ourselves, but that's not what I'm excited about.

There's a taqueria a block away that we only recently discovered has A) really good al pastor and 2] a twelve-taco platter for $42 that comes with soft drinks for the table. And Wednesday is $10 fishbowl margaritas!

[–] reluctant_squidd@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

That’s quite a find!

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm excited I have a second nephew coming in March

[–] reluctant_squidd@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

I never really got the excitement as a kid. Why were adults so happy for another mouth to feed? Diapers to change?

Then I became an uncle and it made a lot more sense. Kids are hilarious. Early congrats for March!

PONY ISLAND 2

and no other games at all

But Pony Island 2

[–] MyBrainHurts@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Lots!

My co-ed soccer team lost a heartbreaker of a championship game, but goddamn we've improved and I'm excited for next season!

My softball team is wrapping up our season tonight and as we've all enjoyed each other we've started talking about what to do as a group for the offseason, so I'm excited to see how that turns out!

My friend and I have plans to work on his cabin in the fall with fewer mosquitos etc and that's always been a blast.

The international film fest is coming to town soon and even in a down year, there's a dozen that look pretty fun to me. Plus, a few friends I don't see as often as I'd like (they're busy starting families etc) usually catch a few together which is great for the soul!

Oh, and one of my film fest favourites, Deathgasm, has a sequel coming out soon and it's great to see an absurd but wonderful indie flick do well. I am stoked to get high as balls and watch the hell out of that.

Then it's the winter and I'll take a lot of mornings off to ski and work the afternoon, which is an amazing combination.

Work's paying for a few courses in the fall and winter semesters so I'm quite stoked to up my skills for free!

And finally, kind of dumb but I've started persona 5 royal, it's my first JRPG in maybe a decade and it's just been delightful so I'm pretty excited to take that journey.

[–] reluctant_squidd@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Your life reads like it is the good kind of busy. Not the corporate phone ringing all the time kind, but the wholesome living it up kind. Love it!

[–] MyBrainHurts@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

Thanks, that really means a lot as that's pretty much exactly how I try to live!

[–] Skunk@jlai.lu 7 points 2 weeks ago

Getting home with a bag full of groceries for several days off, no plans others than enjoying loneliness and my gaming PC.

I even have a small dance and excitement sound for that.

Food forest concept has been really cool to get into

I went from prefering perneals, to permaculture, to full on food forest goals. I love it. Got a few buckets of apples this year and my first gallon of elderberry juice. Was able to pick some nice mulberries and have some tomatios on the way.

All of which I just pruned this year. Which is A TON less work then tilling, planting, weeding, and watering.

Got a fig tree on the way, mint taking over a good patch. Still figuring out what guilds of plant really work on my hugalculture walls where I live.

Honestly I love foraging my own yard vs feeling like it was a chore I had to keep up on.

[–] reluctant_squidd@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 weeks ago

My wife and I (mostly her) started some simpler growing this summer. We are both new at it.

Just basically a single raised garden with potatoes and carrots, a small compost bin and a little garden greenhouse.

I don’t think either of us were really expecting it to feel so rewarding to harvest food that we grew. It’s the most excited I have seen her about something since the kids were born. We are hoping to upscale a bit more next year with what we have learned so far.

Food forest concept isn’t something I have heard of, but I’ll definitely dig into it, so thanks for that!

Next episode of The Amazing Digital Circus next month(?), next season of Invincible next year(?), Deltarune Chapter 5 next year...

[–] MyBrainHurts@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

Oh man, Invincible has been almost too much fun. What a goddamn blast that one is. Unsure if I love it or the Boys more.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There's a lot of good TV coming. Peacemaker season 2, fallout season 2, gen v season 2, the boys season 5, Rick and Morty season 8, mortal Kombat movie sequel. Fallout 5 the game was recently put on full development, but I doubt we'll ever see that, as it'll take 10-12 years of development, and I honestly don't believe we have that much time left for a functional society.

[–] reluctant_squidd@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It will be released in tandem with the next tes game and half-life 3!

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

TES 6 will happen. It can't possibly be more than 2 years away, right? Right? But fallout 5 has no chance of getting finished.

[–] reluctant_squidd@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Hard to say when for either. I can see fallout getting a serious rush put on it to try and catch the popularity wave of the show.

Hopefully that doesn’t encourage too much refurbished content from the older games though.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Agreed, or a game full of bugs and glitches like FO4. Honestly at this point I kinda hope that another studio has a hand on it to get it moved quicker so that Bethesda can't Bethesda it up too bad, and stays more true to the feel of older games. While at the same time improving on the combat of FO4. The earlier games were better rpgs, but sucked ass at combat. FO4 was decent at combat but basically wasn't an rpg at all. I'd like something in between, and feel like a co-development process would help with that as well as expedite the process. That being said, even if that were the case, I still don't see society lasting long enough for it to come to market. Even if expedited with another studio, were talking 6 years at least. And I just don't see America lasting that long at this point.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A :)

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Not much. I differentiate between "interested" and "exited".

I've been disapponted too many times to get excited for much.

I'm interested in seeing how Peacemaker season 2 turns out. I'm interested in finally being able to sit down with the graphic novel "These Savage Shores".

https://vaultcomics.com/products/these-savage-shores

I'm interested in seeing what all the fuss about "Infinite Jest" is about. Picked it up and a reading guide, but I haven't cracked either yet.

Excited? Eh...

[–] reluctant_squidd@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

I understand what you mean by excited vs. Interested.

Each time I had gotten disappointed by things in the distant past, I sort of withdrew a little more from excitement bit by bit until the world was kinda grey.

Please be careful with that feeling.

It can go from being resistant to excitement, to feeling undeserving of it without even really noticing of the change. I hope you find things to be genuinely excited for soon.

On a lighter note, I’m going to have to checkout peacemaker I guess!

[–] blue_shell@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'll change school this year 'cause i didn't have a good relationship with my classmates. I'm pretty excited to see who I'll end up with!

[–] reluctant_squidd@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I’m glad you have the opportunity to hit the reset button like that. It sounds like you have a positive look ahead for the change, which is half the battle in my opinion.

It might take some time to feel like you fit in better with your new group, but the extra effort is worth it ten fold if you do find your close friend group there.

Most of the best friendships I ever had started off a bit Rocky. And usually were not at all what I expected. Come to think of it, things are rarely what I expect.

Best of luck!

Really appreciated the reply. Thanks!
