I voted to keep your kid on Medicaid. Did you?

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 64 points 2 days ago

That's a slogan right there. That's amazing.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 114 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I mean clearly your vote says otherwise.

[–] mcbenavides85@piefed.social 105 points 2 days ago (1 children)

She hates immigrants more than she loves her disabled son.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 88 points 2 days ago (2 children)

She loves her conservative identity more than her son.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 54 points 2 days ago (3 children)

True of 99% of conservatives.

[–] AdamEatsAss@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago

"if the government wasn't taking my money, I'd be able to pay for things". <- The main argument by Republicans. It neglects the fact that's the government (run by the people) has the power to negotiate and require cheaper services than any one individual could. Yes you have to pay taxes but it goes towards creating cheaper and better services.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It breaks my probably autistic brain that my hyper intelligent history buff uncle could swallow the MAGA pill and sing praise to Russia on his fucking deathbed.

People, myself included, dont understand that the ruse is identity, not intellect, not blood, not anything.

Identity is a weird thing and I don't think we know as much about it as political advertisers do or something. It breaks my brain.

[–] 51dusty@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

dude. I had a similar issue with a close friend of mine.

how can someone, that is a student of history, not see the obviously dictatorial things that are happening?! It was because he would be siding with Democrats...and that is somehow worse than losing a friend of 13+ years.

broken my fucking heart. still does. have not talked with him in what seems like forever but it's been less than a year.

Parents of disabled children don’t have the time to hunt down details buried in evasive political jargon that have the potential to upend their lives.

Ok, but... That's not really what happened, though. Project 2025 awareness was very high and people knew it was bad. And the messaging about it was both widespread and non-jargony. Nothing about this required any hunting or deciphering of any kind. Medicaid was obviously on the chopping block. They told us so.

This is the kind of person to vote for outlawing abortions beginning at conception while bringing their daughter to Europe to get the very same procedure done during a ski vacation, all while never realizing their own hypocrisy.

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

I think coining the phrase "Welfare Queen", refusing to expand Medicaid under Biden at zero cost to the state, criminalizing homelessness, and willingness to sacrifice Grandma and Grandpa on the altar of capitalism were sufficient tip offs.

Must be difficult for your son to have such a dickhead as a mother. You voted to fuck over immigrants, to fuck over black people, to fuck over trans people, and now, you're surprised they also want to fuck over the one minority you care about...

I'm sorry, were you too busy being excited hearing about the deportations and the "two gender" bullshit to hear the part that actually affected your own selfish interests? Wanted to fuck over everyone else but those you care about and now you're big sad and feeling betrayed?

Aww, my poor, poor conservative learning the same god damn lesson every time you get what you think you want but never learning from it, must be hard for you, now you're gonna have to deal with the misery you wished upon everyone but you...

I hope your son gets the help he is OWED, but you're the one that treated it as a privilege to take away. He got what you wanted. It wasn't a fucking asterisk at the end of the contract written in 2pt, it was written in giant fucking neons.

Your son deserves all the help he can get, dignity is owed to everyone. Let's start with a better mother.

[–] elbucho@lemmy.world 30 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's worse than that, I'm afraid. The author of the article is a woman. So not only does she not care enough about her son to vote against the party who wants to kill him... she doesn't care enough about her gender to vote against the party that wants to strip them of their rights.

Oh, fuck it's a woman, I'm sorry, my misandry (/misogyny) got the best of me I guess. Not proud of that. :|

I guess that's what I get for reacting to the headline without reading the fucking article, don't I? Trying to be better at that. I just reacted quickly because like, at this point, I've read so many of these.

I don't even know if I can bear to read another one of these people just getting exactly what they voted for and being shocked by it. It's infuriating when I know that it fucked the lives of so many people who tried to warn them, but they didn't listen.

[–] TallonMetroid@lemmy.world 48 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The only moral Medicaid is my family's Medicaid?

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago

Well I'm sure she's more along the lines of the only moral Medicaid is her White Medicaid.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 48 points 2 days ago

I’m also here to tell you why I’m an unlikely supporter of the program. My son’s life depends on government assistance.

Typical conservative. I have all the sympathy in the world for David. None for the author.

[–] adeoxymus@lemmy.world 35 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I’m a registered Republican who just watched her party spend much of the summer pushing through new cuts to Medicaid. I’m also here to tell you why I’m an unlikely supporter of the program. My son’s life depends on government assistance.

What does she mean unlikely supporter? She supports the cuts? Or she supports Medicare? It doesn’t really look like an unlikely supporter when your child literally depends on it now is it?

[–] elbucho@lemmy.world 47 points 2 days ago (1 children)

She means she's an unlikely supporter of medicaid. Unlikely, because she's a fucking asshole who votes for the party that demonizes people who need medicaid. What she doesn't realize is that she is made from the same mold that all Republicans are: they're against anything that could help people unless they personally could benefit from it.

[–] bear@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I think most are against the programs while simultaneously benefiting significantly from them.

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Conservatives or people?

I don't use Medicaid but I'm fucking livid it's dying, and I feel the same for all services I don't use.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 16 points 2 days ago

That and all social services. I am childless and have voted for every initiative in my area to improve schools. Not because im a saint but because guess what. I don't want to live in an area full of the uneducated. Much like I don't want to live around a bunch of untreated sick people or homeless folks. Im very bigoted like that.

[–] elbucho@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

True. It's only when they lose access to the program because they voted for the party that said: "I'm going to kill that program" that they go out and write pleading articles like this bullshit saying: "Wait, no - but good people like ME benefit from it! You can't kill this program!"

Some of her other writing in the wsj are disgusting. She is anti-abortion. She is a real "conservative christian" so I'm pretty sure she is 100% on board with everything else Trump does. https://www.rachelrothaldhizer.com/

She is having/had another child already. Wouldn't be surprised if she was part of the quiverful movement.

I'm actually starting to wonder if this is just bait. She is close to the worst person to make this claim.

I feel bad for your son, but you did this to him.

[–] MangioneDontMiss@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 day ago

I literally just talked to my mother yesterday who is a maga supporter. She's 77 years old. She's losing her house because she can't afford it anymore and she's being forced to return to work because she needs the money. I warned her for years and years and years about so many things that would have prevented all of this. And she never listened once. If she becomes homeless, she's made her own bed she can sleep on it, outside.

[–] circuitfarmer@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I mean, if we're approaching the time where normal people are expected to have sympathy for people voting against their own (and everyone else's) interests, I must make everyone aware that I have no sympathy left.

David does not walk, talk or eat independently. He is visually impaired and has hearing loss. He has an unrepaired cleft palate open to protruding brain tissue, covered by a thin layer of mucous membrane. Developmentally, David is like a 10-month-old baby.

So he is living in hell which they shall stretch out for a 10 to 20 year sentence so they can by their reckoning being tortured by their imaginary friend so long as they torture him but if they didn't need a million dollars plus to pay for this exercise in sadism they wouldn't spare 20k for a plain old poor person to have a normal full life.

My son’s life depends on government assistance

But she voted against it anyway. Crocodile tears, sympathies to her son, but she got what she asked for.
This is the insane stupidity the entire world has warned against, warning not to vote Republican.

Here we have a saying. "Dummere end politiet tillader" More stupid than allowed by the police. ( It doesn't roll well in English )

Meaning they will not recognize their own stupidity until they feel the consequences of it, and even then they might not. So their own stupidity is causing them unnecessary harm.
It's absolutely insane how many in USA suffer from this level of stupidity.

The headline might as well read: I'm an idiot, why would putting a plastic bag over my head be dangerous?

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

I'm a conservative. I support fascism except in the narrow ways it harms people I care about.

The son is a worthwhile sacrifice to own the libs. I give zero fucks about his health.

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

I care about his health and it's heartbreaking that he doesn't have a choice or know how much his mom is a sociopathic piece of shit.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 days ago

Oh no. Anyways, anyone got any big plans for the weekend?

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Oh no how unfortunate.

[–] orenj@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 2 days ago

Vote democrat then. They're a bunch of conservatives anyway, so there should be no problem for someone like this.

[–] marsza@lemmy.cafe 7 points 2 days ago

Guess she will have to get another job like the rest of us—or, maybe put the kid to work.

That's rough... so are you bringing devilled eggs to the wake?

[–] HuskerNation@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

No fucking sympathy. I hope David is fine. I hope the parents develop ulcers from stress and lose their fucking hair. I hope they lose everything. DUMB FUCKING CUNTS!!! - edit I changed my mind on David because this scene popped in my head.
