I mean, I'm souring on the Democrats because they haven't fucking done anything to divert us from this disaster.

[–] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 70 points 1 day ago (4 children)

The Dems are fairly low on my list of the blame game. But they're still on the list!

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 68 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They could do the bare minimum.

  1. Stop approving his cabinet members.
  2. Stop any finance bill.
  3. Stop any sales to Israel.
  4. Push candidates with a plan to stop kid rapist.
  5. Sure up their base with a plan.
  6. Say what you will do with the new broken rules.
  7. Abolish ICE
  8. Tax the wealthy
  9. Ban stock trading
  10. Ban Citizens United decision
  11. Expand the court or destroy its ass
  12. Rewrite the constitution

Fuck, pick at least 1 and I don't get paid $200k with life time benefits and insider knowledge.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Stop any sales to Israel.

Ha. They'll never do that. It's the only policy they didn't abandon when they got pushback.

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Bare minimum is all people want to see. That is why I want democratic socialism but most people are scared off by socialism.

[–] Saleh@feddit.org 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What is called "democratic socialism" these days mostly just amounts to a market economy with a reasonable level of social security and public infrastructure.

Bare minimum is all people want to see.

Democrats would rather have permanent dictatorship run by a pedo than deliver the bare minimum.

I would like to see Democrats publicly proposing that we will hold ICE agents accountable, with a plan that would actually work - we rendition them to the home nations of their victims.

SCOTUS is so corrupt that the US justice system needs to be bypassed entirely when bringing ICE agents to justice. But if you're an ICE agent that is operating a concentration camp where Venezuelan citizens are killed? Your ass should be sent off to Venezuela for trial. SCOTUS will doubtlessly protect the Nazi thugs, but Venezuela will hold them accountable. Let them rot in some hellhole prison down there.

I want politicians to be talking about this now, to make clear that crimes against humanity will not be forgiven or forgotten.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They're very high on mine. They created the conditions that allowed Trump to take power. They've fought tooth and nail to keep everyone who might have been able to prevent this disaster away from the levers of power. The Democrats are the rachet preventing the rest of the country from stopping (or gasp reversing) the Republican-led march to fascism.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They're active participants in the fascist take over. They normalize fascism and act as controlled opposition to keep those who would oppose it out of power and out of the conversation

If Joe Biden had put Donald Trump behind bars on his first day of office for the January 6 attack we wouldn't be here right now. Everything good he ever did is irrelevant because he failed to stop the coup

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Everything good he ever did is irrelevant because he failed to stop the coup

I wouldn't even blame him if he had honestly failed, but he didn't even try

[–] Saleh@feddit.org 19 points 1 day ago

Why would he try?

The Democrats banked on the idea that Trump is the easiest candidate to win against, despite Clinton loosing to him in 2016. And it was clear with Biden. He wasn't voted because people liked him. He was voted because people were dissatisfied with Trumps first term. And Biden managed to fuck up so badly, that people rather chose Trump for a second round than to deal with Biden or Harris, who stated explicitly that she will do everything like Biden.

The Democrats thought that Trump is perfect as he lets them get away with being the worst version of themselves and they'd rather see another Trump presidency than actually provide good policies for the people.

The house is burning down. I'm obviously blaming the arsonists, but I'm also lying blame at the firefighters who decided to not do their duty.

[–] wagesj45@fedia.io 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Hey listen, the wild bear is the one mauling everyone in the school. Blame the bear! Yes, we placed honey in the open door and smeared the children's faces with fresh salmon, but it's the bear that is eating the children. Please donate to help me scold the bear."

[–] Saledovil@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I don't like comparing Trump and co to wild animals, simply because they are so much more malicious.

When they get the ball, they won't play offense. When they lose the ball, they won't play defense.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 38 points 1 day ago

Dems are perfectly happy with feeling smug in their political moral superiority and their insider trading. Why take power, and have to work hard? Chuck Schumer would rather compose stern letters to people who can't read.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 day ago

Well, no, but let's not forget they did a whole lot to contribute to it. Remember Joe Biden? Yeah... We could have had Bernie.

[–] ImADifferentBird@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Worse still, they seem eager to contribute to it. Just look at all the 2028 hopefuls lining up to validate Republican talking points about immigrants and trans people

[–] InputZero@lemmy.world 6 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Well the Overton window has moved so far to the right that the Democrats now sit where the Republican's did 16 years ago.

In a functioning democracy this would be a great time to launch a 3rd party.

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago

Unfortunately we wished for it on a monkeys paw and we got the America Party.

[–] EntropyFlux@lemmy.world 54 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The Dems are like the Keystone Cops bungling around while a wannabe dictator continues to take America apart.

Even if the Dems had decent candidates, their strategy and tactics are ineffective.

It’s like we get the worst of anyone who wants to be a politician, either side of the aisle.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Simple reason is....it takes a ton of fucking money to run a campaign. Even small county judge races cost at least 50-80k. How many good, down to earth people can drop their job, spend 80k on campaign shit and get out alive?

Even with party money, you'll still be struggling. Plus, who wants to be holden to the same old bullshit system?

[–] EntropyFlux@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Very good points. It’s why money needs to be taken out of politics. Many other countries have figured that out.

Citizens United really was the nail in the coffin for American politics.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

100% agree. If we do have a landslide in 2026 without MAGA's cancer. Maybe we can end Citizens United!

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Democrats have been campaigning on and doing nothing about Citizens United for years.

I mean, Mamdani and Bernie proved that this is a very solvable problem. Small dollar donations are more than enough to get a candidate with popular policies into victory.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Democrats were recently caught having a fund raising scheme so corrupt that it should be a capital offense to run such a thing. Those spammy text messages we were getting asking for donations? Turns out 98% of the money donated to those went straight into the pockets of consultants. The party's primary reason for existence is not to advance policy goals, but to steal money from liberal donors.

Anyone with enough brains to be an effective leader has fucked off into retirement. Nobody wants to renovate the Titanic when it's already halfway underwater.

Who cares about ratings when you don’t need elections?

[–] Tehbaz@lemmy.wtf 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Elections in the US won't ever be free or fair ever again now that the child fucker is back in charge, the GOP have spent decades taking control of the courts & gerrymandering their way to absolute control.

The only way that democracy and workers rights can be restored at this point is if everyone starts picking up their guns and starts systematically executing billionaires & their puppets. There are more of you than them, it's time you started acting like it.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Also let's be honest Trump could just send Ice to go arrest every Hispanic voter in line during early voting and he would scare enough people away from voting to win in a landslide. There's absolutely nothing I would stop him from doing that. What did the Democrats going to do? A sternly worded letter?

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 26 points 11 hours ago

Dems have the uncanny ability to suck so much that they torch goodwill even when the public hates what Trump is doing. Replace the geriatric fucks with your people who can actually inspire the voting base again, like a certain guy in NY.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I knew the American public was fucking stupid but I didn't think they would continue declining this quickly.

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 18 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (15 children)

You public is equally stupid, i guarantee it. Neoliberal parties are cratering across the globe because they are advocating for the system that is grinding everyone down. Labour, the SDP, and Rennasisance, are all getting clobbered in the polls because they keep advocating for the same failed system that led us to the mess we are in now. Hell, Italians keep voting for Mussolini's literal centerold granddaughter. Or the Dirch voting for PVV, or Hungary and Orban, or PiS in Poland. And since Western powers have spent the last 80 years crushing any actual leftist policies, people everywhere are supporting rightwing parties because they are the loudest voices offering a change. what is happening on America is happening all across Europe right now. Or are American voters responsible for how people in Europe vote as well?
