Still itch.io deindexed all nsfw games

Edit: Okay so they now reindexed them.

Today, we are re-indexing free adult NSFW content. We are still in ongoing discussions with payment processors and will be re-introducing paid content slowly to ensure we can confidently support the widest range of creators in the long term.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 28 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Would you rather they had shut down because nobody is able to pay them anymore? They complied with the demands for the time being because they have a business to run - and then they immediately started looking for a solution.

[–] MyDarkestTimeline01@ani.social 17 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I don't believe people fault itch.io or steam for what they did. You can be upset with an action and still understand why it was done. It's the same mental allowance you would give to someone if they agreed to cover your shift but the morning of their kid got sick and you had to come in anyway. Sure, you're upset but you also understand that someone would need to take care of their kid.

So we can be upset that NSFW games were delisted. But the other options would be them only getting paid through physically bought Steam and Itich.io gift cards.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 1 points 14 hours ago

Sure but simply saying "they still did X (oh wait they walked back part of X)" doesn't really sound understanding but accusatory.

[–] tfowinder@sh.itjust.works 4 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I wonder why the payment processors went on the backfoot.

[–] Zron@lemmy.world 17 points 16 hours ago

Immediate and harsh criticism.

[–] bappity@lemmy.world 16 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

and stripe apparently plans to allow NSFW content in future, which is super promising.

I hope itch.io finds an alternative in the meantime though

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 28 points 15 hours ago

allow

Shouldn't be their decision in the first place. Process the fucking payments, payment processors.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 17 points 16 hours ago

One of these moron payment companies is going to realize what's up sooner or later.

Patreon is for creators to do creative stuff professionally. Onlyfans tried to be the same thing. The only difference was they allowed NSFW stuff. Now guess which one pulls significantly more revenue?

If you become the payment processor for NSFW stuff, you can do whatever the hell you want and still be rolling in cash.

They just missed very old news about how games that depict illegal activities do not really cause people to do illegal activities. Therefore they can't be illegal themselves.

[–] prex@aussie.zone 29 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Plus, where do you draw the line?
Social media where users discuss illegal activities? Movies that depict illegal activities?
There are a lot of illegal activities in the bible.

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 23 points 15 hours ago

I committed genocide in age of empires 2 yesterday, but lewd games is where I draw the line!

[–] zxqwas@lemmy.world 37 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Maybe it is time for an anti-trust investigation.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 16 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

in this administration?

good luck....

Might dust off Taft-Hartley to bust some unions though

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 8 points 15 hours ago (3 children)

Just use whichever payment processor is the lesser evil to push them towards getting better.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 8 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Because that's working out super great with politics!

[–] RedditRefugee69@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 10 hours ago

We don't reliably choose the lesser evil, though.

This time we chose the obviously bigger evil because "hehe funni, he mean but he funni."

I use my local bank for that.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

Banks and payment processors are not the same thing though.

[–] zxqwas@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Buying from steam I currently have the option of Mastercard or visa. They don't accept the other ways I have, and it's difficult for me to get the ones they accept.

As I understand it they are both doing it in coordination.

[–] Forester@pawb.social 1 points 5 hours ago

You can buy steam store credit directly

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 29 points 10 hours ago

All data carriers, like ISPs, payment processors, email services, etc. should have NO control, nor even oversight or input, over the content of their transmission or the purposes thereof.

Imagine if all roads were privately own and they wanted to know every detail about those traveling on their roadways. Origin and destination, every detail about you, about your vehicle, what you have in your car, etc. And imagine they could decide that certain cars were allowed on their roads, you weren't allowed to use their roads to get to certain destinations, they get lobbied by bigots to not allow gays to drive on their roads, or people that have porn in their vehicle. There's no public alternative, and sometimes no private alternative, and even private alternatives do the exact same thing... if we wouldn't allow that sort of surveillance, interference, and autocratic control with or means of movement, why should we allow it with our means of trade.

[–] MyDarkestTimeline01@ani.social 16 points 15 hours ago

Not to mention their little gaslighting memos they sent out trying to say it wasn't them that told them they wouldn't process those payments.

[–] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 20 hours ago

Jesus girl would side with the payment processor.

[–] bryndos@fedia.io 11 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Damn, am I really going to have to start going to bank regularly, getting cash from the cashier, and boycotting card-only places.

Meh, I guess I've nowt better to with my time.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 15 hours ago

Try to find cash discounts too, so you don't subsidize other people's credit card usage.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 8 points 13 hours ago

The good timeline.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 7 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

Given the show this meme is taken from, I can't tell if the quote itself is unaltered or not. 🤣

Drive the bus, bus driver

[–] tomkatt@lemmy.world 5 points 8 hours ago

Fill the hole, hole filler.

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 hour ago

I want Visa and MC to show us a time they were prosecuted by the government for processing a payment they shouldn't have.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 4 points 15 hours ago

Surely they are being pressured by the governments, right?
