She controls his agenda. She sometimes takes decisions on his behalf.

She is one of the very few people that Donald Trump actually trusts.

Am I the only one that thinks 90% of the people in the clowns orbit should be put in homes for the elderly and insane?

We've got bro getting ready to fingerpaint with pudding and queen karen-de-ville realizing the voices are in the room with her.

I really hate to make a remark about appearance, but she's got mad crazy person eyes. Most of the worst people I've ever met have that same look in their eyes.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Here I was thinking I was going to get nuked, but it looks like all of you have seen this shit and have been willing to run some yellow tape.

[–] Fredthefishlord@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There's always a look to it. As long as you keep in mind that it can be wrong and adjust your view of people accordingly if corrected, it's not super wrong to judge by appearances

I haven't seen the show, but the premise of "The Thick of It" is that the real powerful figures are staffers, not the politicians themselves.

You must! It's easily my favourite comedy show of the 00s, but if you're not a Brit you'll probably need subs, lol.

Had to try a couple of searches before I came up with the correct spelling: Susie Wiles.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

First woman to hold the position of white house chief of staff. Well done ladies. Way to hit the ground running.

[–] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Looking at this crowd of people it’s hilarious to see people actually wearing that ridiculous hat. Do people actually do this in the US? 😂

The hats are just the tip of the iceberg. Political apparel isn't anything new, but it's usually just reserved for election years. For a lot in MAGA, it's everyday. And it's not just clothing.

Driving through rural areas or small towns, the amount of Trump flags flying in front of homes today, well after the election, is staggering. Flags are what get me because I can't think of any other candidate who had their name on a flag that people actually flew alongside of or in place of the American flag. I do not remember ever seeing Bush flags, or Obama flags, or Biden flags. This is different. This idolatry is not normal.

[–] Dearth@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

Yes. Not even at rallies. People wear trump hats really in public. It's embarrassing

Fucking hell, you'd think being the most powerful woman in the US would afford you the ability to change your name from Willies

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

It gives me the Trumpies.

[–] MTK@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Pretty sure I can beat her in a fight. Not so powerful now, are we??

[–] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wiki says her last name is Wiles (née Summerall), btw.

“She controls his agenda.”

Define agenda. Are we talking meetings calendar? Because people like Putin and Peter Thiel influence what Trump actually says and does.

[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Controlling the meeting calendar for the president is more than just the clerical work of a personal assistant. The president works and makes decisions by meeting with people. She decides who gets access to him today. She deflects people she doesn’t think are worth his time. Over the long run she can have extraordinary influence over him and what choices he has in front of him to make. She can effectively block people she doesn’t want to have any access. Thats a lot of power for someone most people don’t know by name.

[–] Hawke@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Especially since he listens to whatever someone said to him most recently.

[–] LesserAbe@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Besides what the other commenter replied, with Trump there's a special value in controlling his agenda because often the last person he talks to will have the most sway. There have been stories about his appointees taking advantage of a rival appointee being away or in a meeting, and getting Trump to issue an order or even just tweet a position on something so it's harder to walk back when someone else gets his ear.

Friendly reminder the guy who organised lenins calendar was bloody stalin. That's a level of discretionary control over a highly powerful individual that could basically let you choose the next president.
