It's a good joke

But half because the logic is so terrible. That's not passive income. It's retail

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Uses other people's money for both the product and service = "passive".

You're not thinking enough like a grifter to grasp the "big-picture" thinking at work here.

quotation marks = sacastic/fake in my usage, to be clear.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You’re not thinking enough like a grifter

I mean, its obviously a shit post. But I imagine spending a whole day doing fake interviews - 50 a day, five days a week, for a month - to make around $6k gross, and then tell yourself you can scale this up passively.

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

That's why you never stop at just one hustle!

Enough scale, and why would you keep your day-job? ... but you don't have to be smart-enough for that to buy-into and sell this lifestyle!

Congrats on pin-pointing why I leave my own true potential for grift and hustle on the table, save for moments of desperation where inaction would otherwise cost my family. That is to say, I sometimes borrow money from my mom, and that's plenty evil enough for me.

[–] Ulvain@sh.itjust.works 61 points 2 months ago (3 children)

50-60 a day? Assuming a 7.5 h workday, or 450 minutes, that's ~8 minutes per interview, pretty hard to keep up even for fake ones

[–] Mustakrakish@lemmy.world 47 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Its also not passive if you're working for it lmao

[–] Mamdani_Da_Savior@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

Doing 50 conversations in a day is a lot of work.

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 36 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Also on the high end, 30 people buy a drink, meeting 300$ profit? What are the sodas $20 each?

[–] metallic_substance@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago (2 children)

$300 divided by 30 would be $10, but still, there's no fucking way anyone is going for that. The post is probably meant as satire, but they should have at least made it believable

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I was building in for cost of renting the machine, stocking sodas what have you. lol. Even this empty headed catgirl can divide 300 by 10!

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

empty headed catgirl can divide 300 by 10

You mean divide 300 by 30? 🫠

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Mmm yeah. That one. I can do some simple math, but unable to read :3

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

😁👍 We all have our days sometimes, eh.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Yeah this math ain't mathin'.

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 months ago

It's one soda, Michael. What could it cost? 20 dollars?

[–] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Gotta be group interviews. Had a few of them in my time. They're shit.

[–] Ulvain@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

Even with group interviews... Let's take the supposed profit, 300$, and assume it's 100 pops at 3$ each, and for the sake of it let's say revenue = profit in this case. That's 100 purchases per day.

The post claims 50 interviewees per day, so 2 purchases per interviewees.

By groups of 10, that's 5 cohorts spending 1h each with the interviewer, during which every. Single. Person. Buys 2 drinks?

Humm!

[–] PDFuego@lemmy.world 33 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This feels like another one of those funny jokes that someone will come along and ruin by telling me he's serious.

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This does not seem feasible and isn't passive income at all because he's actively doing stuff to make it happen.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 3 points 2 months ago

I could believe someone might call it "passive" in their head (they're not actively selling the thing, I suppose). Because having "passive income" seems to be a kind of status symbol for some people.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 22 points 2 months ago

That's some expensive drinks too.

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I mean how is that even remotely passive?

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

It's "passive" because it uses his employers' time and money to generate additional off-the-books income for himself.

Same way many land-lords mortgage their rental properties close-to insolvency. Damn straight, "passive"=using other people's money.

[–] Mustakrakish@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

I doubt he's using company time if he does 50-60 interviews daily and doesn't hire anyone. No company would pay you to do that.

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Your faith in corporate HR departments astounds me.

OTOH, don't count out reviews, promotions, discipline and other "interviews". Also meetings, so many meetings.

[–] Mustakrakish@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No faith in corporate HR, but concrete knowlege of how payroll works. No company is your friend, they are there to make as much money off of you as possible. Internal meetings are not external interviews, if you were hired to do a job interviewing for a positons and you went through 50-60 people a day with no results, they would replace you.

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 months ago

Don't forget Ghost jobs and all the temp/recruitment agencies out there, but I did forget the "I never hire anyone" bit until your comment prompted me to check the pic again. Also, listings that only exist certain nepotism or racial/class hires, but they stild have to interview x number of excluded candidates for appearances' sake.

Personally, there were a few times I was head-hunted by what turned out to be middlemen trying to fill a quota. No in-person interviews, but to say the jobs they were recruiting for were a bad fit for my public credentials would be an understatement.

I assure you, corporate non-sense knows no bounds, and I'm happy for you, that you've had the luck to avoid encountering some of the worst and most demoralizing of it.

[–] schema@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Yep, also why the hell would they let him keep the vending machine money?

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Simple. Because they don't know its there.

[–] schema@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

So, he is restocking the machine himself?

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 months ago

Seems like it, but admitting to anything like the work of loading it or the expense of purchasing the drinks would tarnish his grifter persona.

Only almost, though.

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

The entire world is

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's one drink, what could it cost? Ten dollars?

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago (2 children)

It’s a Japanese vending machine design, and it’s half embedded into the jutting corner of that wall.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Frankly, I wouldn't want to work in an office whose floorplan is only measured in 3 dimensions.

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 months ago

Photoshopping to avoid tipping-off his employer is the closest thing to a smart decision on display here. Worthless if he's not using a pseudonym.

Nice catch!

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 7 points 2 months ago

9000$ a month won't do shit

[–] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Branch out and rent one of those rooms for $100/day, hire an interviewer for $100/day. Rinse and repeat ad nauseam until Trillionaire.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 2 points 2 months ago

And how do you hire the interviewers? (see step 1)
