The DNC chair congratulated him almost immediately and called for the party to unite behind Mamdani:
“This is going to be a moment for the establishment, for a lot of the people who lined up behind Cuomo. It has to mean something to win the nomination,” she said.
"Democrats have spoken, they made a selection, and I would really, really hope that if he is facing headwinds from different directions, that the party would come together the same way I’ve seen the party come together over and over again when progressives need to say: ‘All right, let’s make sure that people turn out and vote for [someone] who wouldn’t have been our first choice.’”
So yes, Bernie and the DNC agree, it's fucking weird.
If there is another PUMA movement, this time it won't have the backing of the DNC

Yet the article doesn't seem to mention what Ken had said, just her reference to his congratulations to Mamdani.
It threw me off and I thought it was Martin's quote following it

The reason was the prior DNC didn't follow its own election rules.

Martin let a committee decide

The committee put it to a vote of all the members, the ones who had just elected Hogg, and they decided to redo the election.

Hogg decided to not run again despite every sign he would win. And instead said he was making a PAC
IIRC Hogg wanted to primary old incumbents with younger ones, but not necessarily with more progressive ones. It was more of a credibility (and possibly anti-corruption) thing than an ideology thing.
"she" in your quote being Maya Rupert, a Dem strategist, while the DNC chair is Ken Martin.

It really is. Even though demonizing people for no particular reason is the GOPs shtick I've never seen them, and liberals even, go so hard after a Mayoral nominee.
No more compromise. The government goes back to being "By the People, For the People" or we descend into tyranny.
Too late
I think this above all many other things over the last couple decades are where the Democratic Party have gone mask-off about who they really are.
They've lost the Presidency, the Supreme Court, and both Houses in recent years, and finally the moment they get one small chance of victory they're just... nope, we'd rather lose yet another election than allow a left-of-center candidate to win.
Is it really going to be a progressive wave if people just want what they used to have back?
Considering the current state of things, that would be progress.
It will never go to exactly the same. Aim for better. Get better. Progress is progress from any point.

If the DNC is going to be “the left” in the US, the need to make room for democratic socialists. Look at the crowds coming out to see Sanders and AOC. Most progressives in the country are apathetic about the Dems because they can’t commit. Look at the GOP. Along came Trump, and they didn’t like him. But he ran against a WOMAN! An UPPITY one at that! And that fucker won! Now, whatever he says or does, they’re like, “Fuck it. Somehow it works.” And they commit to it. And conservative voters, right or wrong, respond to it. Meanwhile, the “liberal” party’s platform has been “we’re not them” since the midterms in Trump’s first term. No wonder people don’t give a shit about them. Nobody knows what they stand for.
The biggest problem, and I do say biggest, that DNC has is that they all have been trying to win votes not by being progressive but chasing after "the center" or left leaning Republicans. They can't do that if they support true progressive candidates.
Exactly, which gets back to my point. Their whole platform is they’re not as crazy as the Republicans. Which means they’re content being the republicans of 10-20 years ago, but they're trying to do it by only stating what they’re against, which is to say whatever modern Republicans are in favor of. That’s not a platform, and not anything voters should be excited about supporting.
In the last-chance timeline, this would be the last poodle moment for any momentum to build in such a way.
