Despite brief post-election bounce, Trump has struggled throughout term to get majority approval from Black voters

Donald Trump appears to have lost of goodwill he had among Black voters during the 2024 presidential campaign, according to a new poll.

Among African-Americans, 71.5 percent disapprove of Trump’s presidency so far, while just 24.1 percent approve, according to a Decision Desk HQ average of polls current through July 7.

The president hasn’t gotten majority approval from Black voters since the end of his first week back in office, according to the aggregator, but the latest numbers represent a notable increase in discontent, after Trump had a 63.7 percent average disapproval rating among the voting demographic in mid-June.

It should be pointed out that (according to exit polls) 80% of Black voters voted for Harris. I've heard so many people blaming them for Trump, but they're not the problem here.

[–] morphballganon@lemmynsfw.com 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Of course not, black was the most pro-Harris demographic. Hispanics were a toss-up, which was the headscratcher

Misinformation in group chats and latino men's love of machismo

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

I think they also were hit hardest by the thinking that he didn't do the things he was stopped from doing in his first term. He was bad for immigrants in his first term, but American Latinos, being Americans often have a desire to shut the door behind them and blame all the new immigrants for their problems just like the English, Germans, Irish, and Italians before them. So yeah they thought "surely not me, I wasn't hit last time."

I believe her most reliable supporters were Black Women, Jewish Women, Black Men, Jewish Men

In that order

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Not as a whole, but the margins were so thin in some states that Trump won that if Harris didn't lose that small percentage of Black voters, she might have swung enough states to win the election.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm trying to imagine being a black voter and voting for the blatantly racist white candidate.

I'm not having a lot of success.

[–] tauisgod@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Misogyny and bravado. Same for a lot of the Latino and Muslim communities. If the election were rerun tomorrow they'd probably just not vote. People with these personalities will never vote for a woman.

[–] AngryRobot@lemmy.world -3 points 1 day ago

Which, sadly, is why the Dems need to stop nominating women for president if we're ever able to have free elections again. I don't have much hope that will happen, though, since he's admitted he only "won" the 2024 election because "Elon knows how those vote counting machines work."

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

There were gains? Voters have the attention span of a Chihuahua.

[–] voxthefox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 day ago

I'll believe it when they take it to the voting booth, until then it's just hot air and false hope.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Does Trump not look at himself in the mirror? Tbat fucking paint on his face, but white ass sides, makes him look retarded (and that is an insult to retarded people).

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You think that dumbfuck is gonna sit down and watch youtube makeup tips to help with contour blending? He hasn't learned anything new since he was a toddler.

[–] Gsus4@mander.xyz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think he is able to learn, but he has to fail like 20 times until he finally gets it (e.g. JCPOA, he's almost getting there). Makes him feel like a genius.

[–] drhodl@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

If he learns something new, it is only by diffusion and osmosis. He is not strong on active learning, since apparently he already knows it all and is the best at it all.

[–] cabron_offsets@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Fucking morons.

[–] gidostro@lemmy.cafe 6 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

30% of black voters are dumb as fuck I guess?

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago

Some may be undecided. Some may have not responded, which can put them in the undecided category. So, that can account for a chunk of that. Some may be willing to overlook the bad stuff because the good stuff outweighs that (might be a rich black guy, or they hate they gays so much that they're willing to overlook the bad stuff). But, that tends to be a minority.

For the few people who genuinely want the answer on why it's even this high:

It's a lot easier to trick people that the wrong person is causing their issues, than it is to convince them that their issues don't exist and everything is actually great.

Biden/Harris spent the whole campaign talking about how great "the economy" was doing, but they were talking about investments made by the wealthy, not the average Americans quality of life.

This won't be an issue next primary, because no neoliberal can win a fair primary. For the first time since 08 the Dem candidate in the general will be the one most Dem voters want to be there.

That will drastically help turnout across all demographics

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

That's optimistic.

It's assuming the Dem Party doesn't sabotage their own candidates. It's assuming they don't campaign like it's 1960 again. It's assuming social media will somehow be reigned in.

It's assuming there will even be a fair environment for an election, instead of the government (and whoever's conflated with them) putting thumbs on the scales kinda like Hungary, or worse. It doesn't take much pressure to sway elections in environments this polarized.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It’s assuming the Dem Party doesn’t sabotage their own candidates

The party is the DNC

The DNC is a dictatorship controlled by the chair

You don't have to guess what kind of chair Ken Martin is, he was Minnesota's chair for a decade and that track record stands for itself.

He's already purging out old guard committee members, did a 180 on the flow of money between states and DNC, openly advocates for voters deciding the platform via fair primaries...

Like, not as a personal dog, but the overwhelming amount of people complaining about the DNC just aren't up to date on what's happening

Fair point! I am not up to date TBH.

I guess I'm pretty jaded too. The DNC getting things together!? What is this?

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

The DNC getting things together!?

The biggest thing:

https://democrats.org/news/dnc-and-asdc-announces-organize-everywhere-win-anywhere-strategy-largest-ever-monthly-dnc-investment-into-democratic-state-and-territory-parties/

You may have seen articles about how two "union leaders" gave up on the party as well...

The thing is, they were both superdelegates who sat on the committee that have been influencing primaries to favor neoliberals, and one of them even tried to go against the primary results and give it to Hillary in 08.

Don't expect the media to portray things accurately, it's all owned by billionaires who would rather have a Republican than a progressive.

And this wasn't a sudden overnight response to the 2024. The DNC is ~400 voting members who maybe get to vote for a chair every four years, if a Dem becomes president they name a chair.

That group of ~400 have been moving left for decades, it's just that we finally reached the tipping point. We can't afford to slip like with Obama, and if I went into why 08 didn't fix the party this comment would be 10x as long

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 2 points 22 hours ago

Too late. It's amazing that Americans still think that there will be another fair election that they can take this all back.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why the fuck would black voters go for the guy who wanted to have the exonerated Central Park 5 executed? You know, the same guy who instructed his leasing offices to not rent out apartments to black people?

[–] tauisgod@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Because certain types of people would rather set their community on fire before electing a woman. Make no mistake about it, if given the option to change their vote, I doubt many would.

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago

Good news, some North Koreans aren't too fond of Kim

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Even black folk have their fair share of Candace Owen “pick mes.” Massah always has his fair share of sambo house slaves who think they are massahs favorites like Tim Scott.

(I’m black so fuck you if you say I’m being racist here)
