/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

She isn't a snob, she's an addict. It doesn't matter how she gets her fix, even if she has to murder some transporter freak, she needs to get the good stuff.

murder some transporter freak

Daily reminder that Janeway Did the Right Thing.

She absolutely killed Tuvix. But it was the right call at the time, being stranded 70 years from home.

On the other hand, making the top notch pilot - you know, the one she sprung from prison because he was so good at piloting - also the assistant in sickbay was a questionable decision. Surely there was someone whose job was vacuuming the carpet in the crew mess hall, or some other less critical job, who could help in sickbay during emergencies, and not your top pilot who could save everyone's lives with his piloting skills.

Sorry. This always bugs me. I agree with you about Tuvix, but Janeway made some pretty odd decisions that everyone ignores in favor of Tuvix.

this is classic anti-Janeway rhetoric and I won't stand for it!

[–] Thorry84@feddit.nl 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Come say that to my face and I'll personally give you the Janeway treatment. I'm sure I can program the transporter to turn you directly into coffee. :p

I mean honestly lol they could directly transmute any matter in to any other matter but they never do

If your replicated coffee goes cold while you read reports on your PADD, do you have to breakdown and re-replicated the coffee and mug just to get it hot again? (Assuming Kes isn't nearby to freshen it up for you.)

The Doctor is a projection of the electromagnetic and force fields. Microwaves are projections of electromagnetic fields.

Why couldn't B'Elanna rig up some projector to localize a microwave beam and follow your coffee cup? You could call it the ECH (Everyday Coffee Heater) since it was based off the Doctor.

this sounds like a great way to get stale coffee.

Also wouldn't it be easier to just get the doctor to stick his finger in it or something?

This is probably his reply... but I'd bet he'd do it if kess asked.

Great. Now my coffee won't stfu about its accomplishments.

[–] Remmiaz12324567@piefed.social 4 points 3 days ago

its going to tell you need better coffee choices.

I was going to say that this idea doesn't fit in with the lore at all. But when I think about how a lot of Trek tech has hilariously bad failure modes built in (e.g. transporter malfunctions, rogue holodeck programs, consoles that double as fireworks storage lockers, flame-throwers on the bridge), accidentally cooking crew-members insides for want of perpetually hot coffee is weirdly on brand here.

I vaguely recall a moment where someone reheated some tea or soup by just putting it back in the replicator and asking for it to be hotter.

Edit: Actually... That might have been Spaceballs 🤔

You can always fill the mug with some alpha particle emitter...

The only real choice is raktajino

Janeway is the best kind of coffee snob.

[–] Blackout@fedia.io 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The kind that would lay waste to an entire quadrant for just one drop.

There's coffee in that quadrant.

Coffee addict, sure, but she never seemed particularly picky about it.

I like her better in prison (orange is the new black)

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I wonder if Pike is the type of person to brew coffee using the brewers we have today.

[–] jawa22@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He would keep it classy like that.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 2 points 2 days ago

I’d imagine he works long hours to improve on a pour over or find the best tool for distributing grounds in a portafilter.

She does complain it’s not the same as the “real stuff”

Hey, I occasionally drink speciality instant.
