🌟 World Record by a Ukrainian Strongman! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸ’ͺ

Oleksii Novikov, ambassador of the 🩡46th Separate Airmobile Brigade, has set a new world record! The Ukrainian athlete pulled 550 kg in an 18-inch deadlift (lift from knee level). This is not just a sports achievementβ€”it is a symbol of the resilience and strength of the Ukrainian people.

The 🩡46th Separate Airmobile Brigade sincerely congratulates Oleksii on this achievement and thanks everyone who supports our warriors. Your help makes us stronger and brings victory closer.

According to Wikipedia there are different sub disciplines for deadlifts but the highest record across all categories so far was 501 kg. So he added at least 9.7%. Really impressive.

The 501kg figure is highly contested depending on you ask.

Thor did that lift in his own gym, with the plates weighed by his father.

If the potential former world record is questionable and this new one isn't, then I'm even more impressed. ;)

The 18" deadlift is an entirely different lift from regular DL because it starts higher off the ground. These are just not comparable. Starting higher is much easier.

That's insane!! I can't even imagine the amount of stress that must put on the whole body just holding that! 😱

Novikov is always fun to watch in strongman. He's always usually the smallest and then ends up beating guys like shaw and hafthor in stages he really shouldn't be able to. Dude is incredibly talented.

How do they verify that it really went up 18"?

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I believe the 18" refers to the starting height of the bar not the height it needs to be lifted.

I see, thanks

Why do the weights look like that?

[–] LaFinlandia@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

To raise the bar to 18".
